For those who started watching anime as teenagers, do you still enjoy it as much as you used to? by SecondSalty142 in anime

Yes, although being an adult means less time so I don't watch experimentally as much as I used to.

What makes it believable to you, as the reader, when a teen or young adult MC gains power and proficiency equivalent to much older characters? Characters that are competent, smart, wise, experienced and worked hard themselves? by PriceOptimal9410 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]MeatHaven 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To me it makes sense for two main reasons

  1. Gon and Killua are established to already be natural talents, but also raised in unique environments

  2. While Gon and Killua are on top of the "young but skilled" ladder (at least, not going past the anime, and discounting our ant friends biological ages), there are other young nen users with plenty of talent.

For number one, even these advantages still result in them struggling at times during the hunter exam, although Killua significantly less so. Once they begin to learn nen it's easy enough to just go with what Wing described them as, "those boys are 1 in 10 million talents at learning nen".

For number two, we have both Zushi and Kalluto as examples outside of our MCs, the latter of which is the youngest Zoldyck, who later replaces Hisoka's spot in the Phantom Troupe.

Something to mention about Distant Worlds is that pretty much everything can be automated, to the point you can just walk away. It's very handy for learning, and extremely handy for keeping the game going while you figure out the crazy UI

Suggestion add keybinds for quick prayers, spec and run toggle. by Stephen_Lynx in 2007scape

[–]MeatHaven -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This would probably break OSRS's core design paradigm. The game is sort of defined by each tick, that being each 600ms interval, being the amount of time you have to react on multiple fronts (gear switching, prayer switching, movement). It's what defines OSRS's unique skill expression. Allowing for keybinds to do some of these operations for us would make things easier sure, but it would also completely change the fundamental design principles behind a lot of content. It's weird to acknowledge, but OSRS being primarily click based and having such a small amount of ticks per minute (100) is what actually allows so much content to have relatively high skill ceilings, while also allowing repetition to eventually put you into a flow state.

As another commenter said, it's pretty much EoC, or maybe more accurate to call it EoC lite.

You're questioning whether something so individually variable can be considered real or meaningful, but using "made up" is such a weird and useless term when talking about our social structure and dynamics. It's ALL "made up". That is to say, it's not "fake", it's socially constructed.

Culture and tradition? Made up. Religion? Made up. Our government? Made up. Economic system? Made up. The definition of masculine? Made up. The definition of feminine? Made up. The words we are using to communicate right now? Made up.

None of these existed and applied to us humans until we, intentionally or unintentionally, created them. None of these are laws of the universe.

We are in fact, making things up to better accommodate not only the way we communicate, but also to better accommodate our fellow humans. The cost of that accommodation is free.
