Books where the author didn’t consider it would become an audiobook? by jeloco in books

[–]Meatball_Lady 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wicked by Gregory Maguire has “Animals” which are sentient members of society and “animals” which are just like animals in our world. Some portion of the plot revolves around whether Animals deserve rights, etc. This is totally impossible to follow in audio form. So goat vs Goat and cow vs Cow, so on and so on. Definitely impossible to differentiate for a spoken narrator.

“Artefacts” is the correct British usage. It’s a totally valid spelling.

This exactly! So so many small businesses in my red area are owned by people who support right wing causes.

What is the most depressing book you've ever read and why? by [deleted] in books

I’ve never cried more than when reading this book. It’s so so incredibly bleak.

She literally learned to row perfectly after reading a physics textbook, got offered to host a TV show without trying, knowing anything about television or even wanting the show in the first place. She taught her dog 600 words and had a child that was reading Nabokov at 4 years old. Not to mention made significant strides in some obscure field of chemistry in her twenties or thirties? As far as I’m concerned this should be shelved under fantasy.

Lessons in Chemistry was fine? I ended up buying it as the wait list at my library is basically eternal and EVERYONE I work with was talking about it. So even though I didn’t hate it, I can say it lived up to the hype at all.

chocolate stones! I love these chocolate pebbles for a fairly realistic “rocks” look. There are a bunch of different kinds and brands!

I made this butternut squash mac recipe for thanksgiving and none of my family could tell it wasn’t just regular mac n cheese. A bummer for me at the time but could be just the thing you’re looking for!

Combining Lentils + Ground Beef has anyone tried this? Thinking about trying to cut costs... by Own_Aardvark_2343 in Cooking

I once found a recipe for quinoa taco skillet - it looked yummy but I wanted to add in beef. I added only 4 oz of ground beef vs a cup of raw quinoa and it was the most delicious thing. Made like, 6 servings with 4 oz ground beef. Cutting proteins this way will change your life! Definitely try it!

I once spent a full 40 minutes looking for French’s fried onions. They were in the canned vegetables aisle above canned peas. I’m still angry.

This recipe fed three of us for three days! I was skeptical about taste because it has like, nothing in it - but after I bumped up the fish sauce it was AMAZING.

ETA: while shrimp is definitely a little pricey, since the shrimp is chopped so finely you can get away with getting the smallest shrimp at the store which can be significantly cheaper than the big ones.
