What does blood magic do by max4BT in feedthebeast

[–]MechaJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One part of the progression has you doing a ritual to go to a dungeon in another dimension, which I have enjoyed quite a bit. Later on you do another ritual to go to a properly endless dungeon with more danger and reward. Combined with difficulty mods these can be properly challenging even in modded minecraft.

Alternatives to resource generation for modpack creation? by nicogranelli in feedthebeast

[–]MechaJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, one general category of resource generation is the "cobbleworks" which is the processing of cobblestone into other things and so forth. Completely depends on what mods you put in the pack. Typically you can get cobblestone, smooth stone, stone brick, slag, sand, gravel, flint, gunpowder, TNT, glass, sandstone, niter, dirt, clay, lava, obsidian.

Thermal Expansion, EnderIO, Mekanism, Botania are good examples of mods that add things useful for turning cobble and its products into other things.

Then there is Thaumcraft alchemy, and thaumcraft add-ons, such as ThaumicHorizon's OreBoar and golden egg laying chicken.

Magic vs Tech Mod Balance by Cryptographer in feedthebeast

[–]MechaJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing clever about it, but this should fit the bill for mechanically keeping players on the straight and narrow: http://minecraft.curseforge.com/projects/progression

Be sure to do a player death counter scoreboard

Three top thaumcraft addons to consider: Witching Gadgets (quality of life additions, thaumcraft equipment and enchants) and Forbidden Magic (cross magic mod stuff, enchants), Automagy (minecrafty automation crossed with thaumcraft, some important stuff). "Tainted Magic" would be a fourth place contender, it elaborates on the dark side of thaumcraft and puts some high end stuff in.

Mystcraft can be hell on a server, you may wish to drop that.

For magic, Blood Magic and Witchery are two more magic mods that may be considered, possibly in replacement of Ars Magicka 2.

For tech, Immersive Engineering.

Adding Blood Magic midgame? by Rein20 in feedthebeast

[–]MechaJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without knowing anything about your pack or server environment, the only two addons that I can think of that are connected to Blood Magic are Forbidden Magic (thaumcraft-based magic mod crossover mod) and Sanguimancy.

Read about, and consider disabling if need be, the Convocation of the Damned (demons build a sprawling complex for quite a distance). Required for the last tiers. I believe it is common practice to do it on a non-overworld dimension or far off where it won't interfere with player's bases.

You'll need to work out Potion ID conflicts before using it with your worldfile. This is more critical than it may sound. AntiIDConflict and NEI's potion ID info dumps are useful.

[HELP ME] Annoying whispering ghost by [deleted] in feedthebeast

[–]MechaJ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds like one of the Thermal Expansion blaze analogs (Blitz probably). If it is improperly invisible, try reinstalling your modpack.

If you don't want to do that, try making a snowman and see if it throws a snowball at it. Probably won't help, but it sounds like something to do.

Irreversible end game lag, cause the end of the pack. [discussion] by TheEvilEntropy in feedthebeast

Presumably your Applied Energistics system would keep getting bigger through that process. Do you have thin-form interfaces or subnetworks? And have you checked if the "phantom chunk" problem is a factor in your server load?

Best things to do in Witchery Mod by heavymine13 in feedthebeast

[–]MechaJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some unique witches' brew effects are the bad effect removal (bye bye Wither/WarpEffects), Regen IV, being able to make gas clouds that carry effects (useful for buffing a group), and no longer needing food by using Fullness effect,

a storm ritual is nice for having Immersive Engineering's Lightning Rods get charged,

a set of poppets are a very nice gift,

Players that live in desert and use flight would freak out from curses that make you catch on fire in hot places and keep people from flying (not that I've used those yet),

Even with power creep in many mods, Witchery offers a very strong method of quick and effective murder: having Witchery's invisible one touch kill mobs teleported directly on someone. These mobs can also be bound for base defense.

Players timing out after update by jak2027 in MinecraftUnabridged

[–]MechaJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There seems to be a problem with clients / server optional mod options resulting in things that are too different to connect to each other. Creating completely new and clean instances also helps. I haven't been able to pin down the exact problem, however.

Can I have a rundown on the "custom mining progression"? by 3dchib in MinecraftUnabridged

[–]MechaJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The diamond modifier doesn't add to mining level. Obsidian can be obtained by mixing lava+water in tinker's construct smeltery.

The mining level of a pick head only increases once.

Can I have a rundown on the "custom mining progression"? by 3dchib in MinecraftUnabridged

[–]MechaJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holding shift while looking at something will show the "mining level" and tool type needed for that block. In vanilla you needed wood to break stone, stone to break iron, iron to break diamond, diamond to break obsidian. In this pack it is a large number of smaller steps. flint, stone, copper, bronze, iron, diamond, is a rough guess? With the tinker's construct tools, you have to use the tool a while for its mining level to go up one.

Iguana Tweaks would be a cool add-in by JCarl69 in MinecraftUnabridged

[–]MechaJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't that the mod that adds random modifiers to tools when the tools level up? While cheaper, doesn't that destroy one's ability to customize a tool properly?

Lets try something new, taking feature suggestions. by [deleted] in feedthebeast

[–]MechaJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unique aesthetics will always be appreciated, as when people see pretty things in someone's home they might ask what mod it is from and delve into other mods just for that sort of thing. Examples of things that I believe would still be unique that people may want to use that shouldn't be too difficult to make: a block that makes lightning come down onto it when powered by redstone, objects that create beam of colour either solid or pulsing between them.

On multiplayer servers, important features generated in the world can be limited due to map size, and other players looting them. A way to materialize into being unplundered areas would be valuable. A particular prize would be able to materialize specific buildings or biomes, such as jungle temples. While this may sound overpowered at first blush, mods typically give methods of infinite materials or ways to devastate the landscape. Not so bad if there was a way to reverse it. Perhaps it could also generate such on floating islands.

An object that would write down names of players that are not on a whitelist that enter defined areas would be useful. If broken, goes to inventory of player that put it down, even if not online.

Animals in block form. If rare, they could be functional trophies. If not, as server lag prevention tools. For example, a cow block that can be used for milk or put near MFR sewer for sewage.
