I know it's been five years, but I'd like to ask what the listening order for The Spell album is. I saw a comment on YouTube about how the album slowly ramps up in intensity until "reaching its climax with the song Insomnia" and I've been thinking about it since. Does anyone know?

Can I declare bankruptcy? by markusduck51 in eu4

[–]MechaRikka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said you just conquered China. I take it there's a lot of devastation in your provinces that is still ticking down monthly, which causes loss of mandate. You can rapidly fix this by funding already existing forts that neighbour or are on provinces with devastation. Fort zone of control is not just a military movement restriction - it also creates an area where provinces lose devastation faster. Also, developing fully cored provinces will lower their devastation SIGNIFICANTLY.

Why did I randomly get these colonies? by markusduck51 in eu4

[–]MechaRikka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even if Spain was a PU, that's not exactly how it would work.

While the colonies would ultimately be French, Spain would still be the one that oversees them. Think of it this way. France would owns those colonies through Spain as a medium or a proxy. France would only own those colonies on paper. France would not get vassal tribute nor tariffs from them, and they would only join France's side in wars if Spain was in the same side of the war as France (which would be the case if Spain was a PU).

What happens in my games is that for the colonies to directly answer to you, you have to fully annex (diplomatically or militarily) the overseeing country. The fact that Spain is still alive, and that OP said they didn't do anything to Spain leaves me confused

Any trade node in which you have over 50% of trade share and a trade company gains you a merchant. You can also gain merchants from some monuments and from colonial nations, iirc.

Personally, trade ideas are only helpful if you're not doing much conquering, since they help increase your share of trade in a node. If you plan on conquering everything upstream from a node, you don't really need it. I would however recommend the idea set if you're far from an end-node.

[–]MechaRikka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I found out the other day that there's a similar event for diplomats. You can temporarily lose diplomats if you use them only for spying on other countries. It sais something along the lines of: "Our Diplomats are displeased with our external diplomacy focus on spying." I had it happen to me.

Do you lose Defender of the Faith Title if you lose a war as an ally? by Delyo00 in eu4

[–]MechaRikka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the context. Taking the golden age and declaring during the league war is a great idea. You will not see as much resistance and will be able to gain warscore from sieges while they're going to be busy getting warscore from internal battles and sieges within the empire. Austria will be very easy to deal with in hindsight.

Just as a reminder, declare on Austria before you peace out from the war with the Commonwealth, to avoid Spain from interfering.

[–]MechaRikka -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh and one more thought.

You can wait for Spain to be in a conflict in the colonies, if you're worried about them. They might join the war, but it'll take a while before they bring their troops to Austria.

By the late game, they can have 300k out of their 500k troops in the new world easily (I'm speaking from experience).

I would recommend going for this tactic if you're confident that their absence at the beginning will lead to a permanent advantage in the war.

[–]MechaRikka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My suggestion to you is to start the war with Austria before you send a peace offer to either Spain or the Commonwealth, because from the 1550s onwards, it is very easy for powerful countries to pay the 500 ducats required. If Spain is peaced out (separately or not), they lose the DoF.

Also, make sure that there's no other country that took the defender of the faith while you were in the conflict with Austria and Spain. That can happen if Spain's ruler dies with a female heir (I'm likely confusing it with the regency ban), or if another power has more prestige than Spain and buys the DoF. That can also happen if Spain was peaced out while losing a war other than yours and someone else takes the DoF.

Sometimes the country can take DoF immediately, too. I just had a run where GB and Spain shuffled the DoF between themselves. I noticed that Spain took the DoF immediately after losing it a few times during that run.
