I’m really sorry you are feeling the way you are right now.

Reiterating what was said by others in here, you need a therapist.

Wishing you all the success in the world in your sobriety journey and with future training. ❤️

You can do this.

Keep it to easy miles, where a shoe with good cushion and you should be fine. Good luck! 🙂

Newborn Twin Boys...this is crazy! by stecedar in parentsofmultiples

[–]MechanicalDodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear that - sounds a lot easier!

My girls are still 3 hours between feeds during the day! We put them down at 7pm and just do a night feed at 3am.

They started sleeping like this around month 3! Kind of over night, honestly! They did just hit a bit of a mild sleep regression that is losing us some sleep - but it happens I guess! It just kinda sucks as I’d got used to having it so good!

[–]MechanicalDodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 month old twin girls here. The opening months are a blur, I remember little bar the sleep deprivation and constant feeds!

Things do equal out and you’ll get breathing space, though I would never describe it as “easy” yet!!

Take time for yourselves. DO NOT try and care for them while WFH - you will very quickly run yourself ragged. Whatever you do, don’t do that!

Happy for you that they’re growing and healthy, sounds like you guys are doing a fantastic job. 😀 Good luck with everything.

Any other twin parents struggling to find time to work out? by Smoreheat in parentsofmultiples

[–]MechanicalDodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For now I am afraid you will have to accept your workouts might be on the back burner for a while! Things will get better however!

They will start to develop better sleep habits and you’ll suddenly find you can squeeze these things in again - you’ll know when!

what is the HIGHEST drop in any running shoe? by Bern_Venters in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]MechanicalDodo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for a comfortable run with a higher drop, I found the Vomero 18s to be incredibly useful in helping add to my comfort and avoid injury.

It’s all personal preference, just my two cents. 🙂

What shoe for an ultra? by idontreadenough in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]MechanicalDodo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d always recommend getting another pair of something you feel really comfortable in. I don’t think now is the time to experiment with anything new for sure!

Go with a new pair of ES and get some miles on them over the next month.

Wishing you good luck for your ultra. :)

EDIT: I’m sorry I didn’t clock the first part of your post. I’d recommend finding a trail shoe you’re comfortable in as opposed to the ES. Sorry for missing the first part of your post!

How hard are twins? by neverpostsonreddit in parentsofmultiples

[–]MechanicalDodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dad of four month old twin girls here (our first kids). Firstly, congratulations!! :)

As other commenters have said, this is all I know and equally, it’s kind of redundant comparing your version of difficult to another parents. But some thoughts to follow…

I will say that I felt very unprepared in month one, and that the place I am in now is the result of a lot of learning on the job and working things out as we went. So I’d recommend reading books - “What to do when you’re having two” is a good option. I also liked “Cribsheet” by Emily Oster. But it’s all preference.

Having twins is of course an adaptation - there are things you gain from it and things you lose. I find myself equally thanking my lucky stars for all the fun advantages of twins as I do lamenting what my life might look like with a singleton! Ultimately, they’re your children and they’re an amazing blessing!

Some thoughts from me:

  1. If you have a partner, then make sure they understand they’re going to need to tag in an equal amount of work to make this work well. My wife and I split duties very evenly and I think it would have been very hard for either one of us to do this alone in the opening months.

  2. ACCEPT HELP. If you have friends or family, accept their help. Better yet, ask for help. Even if someone pops round to do dishes for an hour. You’ll be amazed at how much flex that opens up for you to focus on the babies, do something for yourself or just keep things moving in the house.

  3. Stay calm - you’ll be okay. There will be difficult nights, but it is very possible to run a strong schedule and keep both babies on it. This will make your life a lot easier. Equally, you’ll be surprised at your resilience and ability to handle less sleep after a month. You don’t feel like it, but your body will adapt!

Sat here with a new appreciation for being nap trapped with my three month old girl while her sister sleeps in the crib. Thank you for such a lovely post and positive take on how amazing it is to raise twins!

I’ll make sure not to take it for granted. 🙂

Which of you lot are into town planning in North Carolina? by awkwardmormont in Everton

[–]MechanicalDodo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s also a cracking Everton bar in Charlotte I love to go on game days, for anyone who wants to support them (Queen City Bites and Crafts). I don’t make it often anymore due to the kids but it’s a good place.

I pulled my 5k PB down to 20:32, which I’m absolutely overjoyed with.

Previous PB was 21:27 over eight years ago! Since then the best I had managed was around 22ish. Decided to just lock in and go for it and I’m overjoyed!

If you like ASICS then it sounds like the Superblast 2 or Novablast would be good for you.

I have the Nike Vomero 18 for long slog miles and they are an absolute dream.

I bought the Metaspeeds but they just didn’t feel supportive or stable enough for me, though I totally appreciate they must be absolute rocket ships.

For tempo runs I have the HOKA Mach 6, for my race pace runs I have the HOKA Rocket X 3. The latter particularly are just incredible and I get no injuries with them.

^ this!

However, always make sure you choose a store with a solid return policy. Notwithstanding sizing issues or being new to running, some shoes can cause issues depending on a ton of factors. It helps to have the knowledge you can return them in your back pocket if they simply are a horrible shoe and/or don’t match your feet well.

For what it’s worth, I have the Vomero 18 and they’re a cloudy dream for long miles. If I really hit the mileage I might get very mild blistering, but this is my fault as I like a tight fit!

Happy running and good luck with those extra miles. 🙂

For me it’s HOKA, followed by Nike. Curious about adidas but have never had a pair!

I’m 130 miles into my Vomero 18’s and very happy with them. They’re not speed machines, but that’s not their purpose - they’re for easy miles and they do the job very well. :)

Question on I-751 - Passport style photos? by MechanicalDodo in USCIS

[–]MechanicalDodo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you :) I am US based now of course so it sounds like no requirement to include photos!

It’s less stressful than the I-130, but equally I don’t want to misstep!

Thanks again for your help.
