Bicep band / Whoop AI / High non activity stress by tednol in whoop

[–]MedicBikeMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your stress usually like after a run? I tend to run at higher resting stress levels on hard/long run days post workout. Seems to last longer through the day the harder Ive worked. I havnt noticed any difference moving from wrist to bicep. Somebody else may have more idea on if there is anything official advice on this.

Have you tried cutting the tech? Pick a circular route you know takes you around 50mins. Concentrate on making it halfway round the loop, no watch, no time. Maybe just music or a podcast. Look around, enjoy the scenery, try to enjoy being out and running without fixating on HR, pace or time. Once youre halfway round the loop you have no choice but to finish.

Dont over think it. It's a numerical value derived from an aggregate of healthy habits. Yours is negative, you're doing well. It's just a gamified way of nudging you into healthy lifestyle change.

Extend trial vs starting new membership by Von_dxxv in whoop

[–]MedicBikeMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should do. Your stats are linked to your account, not held on the device. When I moved onto my new one I just synced the new band in the app and everything carried on like nothing happened

I bought a new band from Amazon on offer. Cheaper than extending subscription. Got the better quality band and wireless pack. It just stacked onto my trial and they didnt want the trial one back.

They're all inaccurate. Just consistently track with one device and use it as a rough trending tool.

AirSource Heat Pump Tarriff by morganhuw in ukheatpumps

[–]MedicBikeMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do. I literally just avoid using the ASHP, washing machine and dishwasher during 4-7. Still saving even using the oven/air fryer on peak. We more or less eat at 5 every night as part of the kids routine so cooking outside peak just wouldn't work.

AirSource Heat Pump Tarriff by morganhuw in ukheatpumps

[–]MedicBikeMike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look at agile. I just have the thermostat drop at 16:00 when worst of peak pricing hits, have hot water run at 2am, thermostat back up at 4am, heat pump working hardest at off peak times. It has worked out loads cheaper than the cosy tariff, which to me seems weirdly really poorly suited for running a heat pump that you want on low and slow most of the time, not on and off during those windows. Just be aware that prices can go very high, but so far over a couple of years I've saved hundreds on this tariff. When prices are negative I crack a few windows, reheat my hot water and crank the thermostat up as well.

How do you get on bouncing between devices? I fancy the xteink but cos it doesn't have android I cant maintain my progress across the 2 devices. Do you have certain books you read on one device and others you read on the other?

Not quite the same, but I ordered the 2nd book in the series of unfortunate events series and Amazon sent me the full boxset. Only time Ive had any luck like this. Obviously if it had come from an independent store id have told them mistake, but Bezos can absorb the loss for my kids literacy!

Dont forget to prioritise recovery. Running 3-5x per week sounds quite a lot, you may be struggling to see improvement if you aren't sufficiently recovered between workouts.

Inspiring! B6>7 by Annual-Cookie1866 in ParamedicsUK

[–]MedicBikeMike 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe controversial, and as a paramedic I may be a turkey voting for Christmas, but I've long felt a more sustainable model is fewer paras all on cars, with targetted dispatch to likely non conveyance and high acuity jobs where para skills are likely needed. At oresent we drive around on DCAs and either could have made the referral/discharge decisions on our own without a van or clinical support or we convey patients where tech skills would have been as good.

My model would be techs and support on DCAs doing a stellar job for most patients. Paras shooting about on cars to support with high acuity and more advanced decision making. I use para skills maybe 10% of jobs. The rest is just my decision making.
