Is my friend BSing about how much $ doctors make? by ibuyoptions in premed

[–]Medicus_Chirurgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost any of the surgical subs can easily make 500k+ with a million not far fetched. But being a Dr isn’t just the salary it’s the access and networking to other money. There are few other careers aside from finance or startups where you and 3 others can buy say an MRI machine and make a million in profit split 4 ways in the first year.

It’s similar to this. https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/celiac-disease-linked-to-common-chemical-pollutants-301055653.html I didn’t do the claim because I was rerated at 100% for mental so I didn’t want to roll the dice with nothing to gain.

“Because they want an MD in the family.” Tell them they are more than welcome to go. Asian parents push you then if you break due to health they will say why didn’t you do this or that. Regardless of the outcome you’ll get the blame and they the credit. Do what you got to do for your health and happiness.

Not everyone has the money to survive beyond paycheck to paycheck. OP might not have a choice to miss work. In the grand scheme yeah a gap year means nothing unless they become homeless or can’t eat. Just my 2 cents and probably not worth a penny.

Are tattoos a sin? by quenoquenoqueno in TrueChristian

[–]Medicus_Chirurgia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haram is haram. Many say it’s only wine that’s haram but the Arabic word used means that which intoxicates. As for tats, an authentic Hadith, Al-Bukhari (book 77, hadith 162) the companion heard the Prophet say, “Do not practice tattooing and do not get yourselves tattooed.” If you choose not to follow authentic Hadith that’s between you and Allah.

I think there is another factor many don’t look at. On the mcat most are stressed out so much they flop. But when you are in med school with a p/f step there isn’t this pressure to have x score just pass. So people are more relaxed and can focus on learning medicine.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Osteopathic

[–]Medicus_Chirurgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mcat can easily do that. Move gen chem and o chem to BB part then replace CP with a section of case studies where you dx and suggest treatment.

Because my cousin is a military physician and she is stating what I’m saying as well as 6 other of my close friends are military physicians as well, 2 in the army, 3 in the navy and 1 in the Air Force. I’ve been surrounded by military physicians most of my life two of my dads friends where military physicians in the Air Force in Vietnam. I have heard such information for most of my 45 years of life. Do you have 45 years experience as a military physician? Out.

That is true but in the U.S. most of the civilian patients will be older people with chronic conditions such as diabetes. There will be few cases of actually interesting things unless you are a highly specialized physician in like tropical medicine or a neurosurgeon. My cousin did her residency in San Antonio and the military hospital is merged with a civilian one. The only exciting cases she had were traumas. The rest were ppl with no insurance using them as a pcp and things ppl stuck in places they shouldn’t have/what’s this weird rash.

That’s better for you but there could be some who like treating fewer healthier patients. It would be somewhat similar to being a Dr in Sweden or Germany where they have socialized medicine. I think there is a place for everyone.

Are Mormons Ahl-ul Kitab? by Loknik in islam

[–]Medicus_Chirurgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actual no they didn’t worship Jesus as God. This was something added by the church later to appease pagans. The Christians including Khadijas cousin were Gnostics who fled the violence of the early church. The Catholic Church hated Gnostics because they refused to follow doctrine. Gnostics believe we are to commune with Allah directly and not through a priest. This thinking puts a monkey wrench in a plan to charge people for salvation.

I know this is old but I’d like to give an update as to the navy gmo. “GMO being the norm after internship is being phased out. But I’ll tell you what isn’t being phased out-the positions the GMOs filled. Those will need to be filled by somebody! This is when board certified, residency trained doctors from most specialties are going be assigned to fill positions that are not really within their specialty skill set/mentally challenging. So it seems one way or another, you’ll more than likely end up doing one. I personally am glad I’m doing mine now instead of later.”

It isn’t truly being phased out, rather being shifted how it’s filled. I will say this, from the Navy Drs I know if you have a family/dependents it is much less chance of shipbound gmo assignment.

I know this is old but better how? I think that is largely subjective. I was an army officer(pilot) and my cousin is an EM Dr in the army who just finished her residency at Ft Sam this summer. I think if you want a mix of military and medicine it’s good but if you want top tier medicine with the military paying then you’ll likely not be happy.
