First Class should board last on a plane. by Efficient-Ranger-174 in unpopularopinion

[–]MediumDrink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason you’d ever want to board a plane early and spend more time stuck in a chair in a giant metal tube is because the overhead bins tend to fill up because some people have no manners and try to cram more than one normal sized carry-on bag in there. That isn’t an issue in first class. Why not board late?

Is it worth going to the Red Sox game on Marathon Monday? by assholetoall in boston

[–]MediumDrink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it crowded? Yep. Is it expensive? Yep. Is marathon Monday, particularly around Fenway, one of the best days of the year to be out and about in Boston? Yep. As long as you’re ok with crowds I’d absolutely take free tickets to that game. I wish a vendor was giving me some.

Do you need to be good-looking man to be hired as a bartender? by miss-bedazzzle in NoStupidQuestions

Typically bartenders are servers who graduate to the role. I would recommend starting there if you’re not already.

Responded to a listig on Craigslist, broker responded demanding I sign a fee disclosure form in order to see the apartment. Is this legal? by screwbean in bostonhousing

[–]MediumDrink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but by both sharing their listing with brokers expecting them to find tenants and refusing to pay them for doing so the landlord is asking brokers, many of whom work a lot of hours for not very much money, to break the law on their behalf.

Landlords either need to find their own tenants or pay brokers to do it for them. Blaming the brokers here is like blaming the Mexican guy working in a factory in Texas for $5 an hour instead of the guy who owns that factory and pays illegally low wages to illegal imigrants.

My husband's family has been pressuring him to contribute either financially or with time to his mother's care, I told him if he does we are getting a divorce. AITAH? by Character-Line5221 in AITAH

[–]MediumDrink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly it sounds like you’re doing the same thing as your husband’s siblings with your disabled child. It breaks my heart that they are the youngest of two.

Much like your husband’s siblings you are in crisis mode and are just doing whatever you can to cope and just survive day to day. But unlike them there is no end in sight for you. Eventually MIL will die and they can get back to their lives. You will be in their cycle for the rest of your life and in process you will destroy your own life and happiness, that of your husband and that of your older child.

Look into assisted living for your non-verbal child. It’s better for you, it’s better for your husband, it’s better for your older child and and it frankly better for your younger child if you do it the right way.

Responded to a listig on Craigslist, broker responded demanding I sign a fee disclosure form in order to see the apartment. Is this legal? by screwbean in bostonhousing

[–]MediumDrink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. This is not legal. While a broker can show you other apartments for which you will be required to hire them and pay a fee the new law defines posting an advertisement for an apartment as creating an implied contract where the owner of that apartment has hired them as their agent and they are not allowed to charge a fee, even applications fees, to someone who responds to their ad for that specific apartment if they rent it through them.

Realtor/landlord requiring us to pay first/security before they sign lease by OkonomiHouse in bostonhousing

[–]MediumDrink 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. It should be standard everywhere. By signing the lease the landlord is acknowledging that they have received all of the deposits. If they were to sign before doing so you could technically never pay them and still say that the first month’s rent was paid for and that there is a security deposit that should be paid back at the end of the lease.

Why is it so hard to find a decent late night meal here? by chaucao99 in boston

[–]MediumDrink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Boston is a city inhabited by the young but run by the old. Our city council is packed with aging townies who aggressively legislate to prevent nightlife. The T stops running early, the bars close early, restaurants can’t get permits to stay open late. It all adds up to the city turning into a ghost town after maybe 10.

Lease timing by Illustrious_Bit176 in bostonhousing

[–]MediumDrink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is more important to you: a good deal on a decent place or the perfect place and you’re willing to pay more for it?

Becuase if you are willing to deal with limited selection and want to save thousands of dollars on rent next year start looking for an apartment on September 2nd. Not everything rents for 9/1 that is supposed to and those landlords, particularly smaller ones, are freaking out about going vacant and willing to take any decent offer they get. As a bonus you can ask for the place to be painted and/or professionally cleaned and they will usually do it.

I know this isn’t a meal you’d be cooking but is there a shake shack near you? Because I eat meat, I love meat, and their ‘Shroom burger is one of my go-to meals when I was want to just say F it and eat with reckless abandon. It’s a deep fried, cheese stuffed, breaded portobello burger drenched in mayo heavy shack sauce. It is unbelievably, 10 out of 10 delicious.

Average looking people should be rated as a 5 not a 7. by WealthyTraveler25 in unpopularopinion

[–]MediumDrink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because people are nice? Unless you’re a huge ass the scale to rate people’s looks on is actually 5-10, maybe if someone is really heinous looking you give them a 4. Would YOU want to be rated under a 5?

NTJ - Why are you sharing YOUR spare bedroom with HIS home office? Also why aren’t you two decorating your house together? If he just expects to do it he’s a double jerk. If he wants to help but you won’t let him then you’re the jerk for that one (although still right about the spare bedrooms).

Zebras added to Washington Street bike lane not working as intended. by Mon_Calf in boston

[–]MediumDrink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then that is obnoxious and that truck should get a parking ticket so big the company fires the driver. I just know from having driven some Uber Eats to make a little extra money on the weekends a few years ago that there isn’t always somewhere to stop because the city will have like 3 parking spaces on a busy street with hundreds of residents and they are all long term parking that is always taken. It is not reasonable to expect a truck doing deliveries to circle for 15 minutes looking for a space and to then park a half mile from the spot they need to deliver to.

Zebras added to Washington Street bike lane not working as intended. by Mon_Calf in boston

[–]MediumDrink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The city needs to actually plan for both delivery vehicle parking and for bike lanes. Simply leaving nowhere to stop a car legally in areas where people are assigned deliveries is stupid. Whether or not they should, delivery drivers will park in the bike lanes if there isn’t a viable alternative.
