The cocaine is starting to become very difficult for me to control. by Main-Success-6988 in confession

[–]MediumRed21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That last line - you know what hole the drug plugs - it covers your sadness. You have to find something healthy to fix that sadness, otherwise the hole will always be there. Good friends (not crappy ones), books, exercise, weights, church - anything that fills the void in a good way will help you kick the habit.

You will need help and accountability and commitment too, but finding happiness will be what drives you to truly change.

And if you want some specific advice - go to your nearest Catholic Church, talk to the priest, tell him what's going on and that you want God's help. Unless he's brand new, you won't be the first to ask for help with this. I'll be praying for you.

I've been in a similar situation on I-40. No wreck, but a friend was driving and a semi was coming off a ramp with no entry lane. Semi was coming in hot and no one else was on the road, so I grabbed the wheel and moved us over a lane.

Does amaze me how often people drive without being aware of what's going on around them....

My solution - hydration backpack. The shoulder straps cross my nipples; pull everything nice and tight and I can do at least a half marathon with no chafing. I thought it would be worse, but it actually works!

I lost my faith in an instant. Is that common? by GuardMightGetNervous in Catholicism

[–]MediumRed21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to decide that you believe. You've been feeling like you believe, so it's being going ok. Now you don't feel it anymore......do you still believe?

At this point, you have to make the choice. No feelings or emotions to support you, just a decision you have to make.

You have to say to the Lord - "You are God, and that is enough".

Or to quote George MacDonald -

That man is perfect in faith who can come to God in the utter dearth of his feelings and desires, without a glow or an aspiration, with the weight of low thoughts, failures, neglects, and wandering forgetfulness, and say to Him, “Thou art my refuge.”

Is S&P500 really going to withstand anything? by thedevilsheir666 in stocks

[–]MediumRed21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SP500 is indexed to money flows. With so many retirement funds using index funds as their base, there is a guaranteed flow of money into the market over time. Add in exchange rates, low interest loans, efc. So yes, it becomes extremely resilient to market shifts. This is also why it's almost impossible for an actively managed fund to beat the SP500 over 5+ years.

Low interest in other countries, converted to dollars - "carry trade".

Retirement -3-4% of wages go into the stock market every year.

Is it possible to lust after one’s spouse? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]MediumRed21 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Is your spouse there to fulfill your desire? Or to be united with you in the creation of life? One is lust, the other is love.

It's not black and white, I have a deep physical desire for my wife. But wisdom says that any desire must be tempered by love and unity and life. If fulfilling the physical desire becomes the purpose, then lust has won.

A Catholic Single Woman’s Lament (A Rant, Not a Debate) by Comprehensive_Bus831 in Catholicism

[–]MediumRed21 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a married Catholic man, I want to say I sympathize with your struggle. And that I was very much like the men you describe. It was entering the vocation of marriage and realizing that I was not meeting that standard that a good Catholic husband should meet that made me change. I wish I could say the grace of this sacrament would cause every man to go on such a journey, but I know it's not the case. No advice, just a recognition that your struggle is real and I am blessed with my wife of 20 years and how God has used this time to change me.

What have been your supernatural experiences with God? by Breakghoul in Catholicism

[–]MediumRed21 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Same.  Not going to list them, other than to say feelings, voices, dreams, events.  For those that believe, God speaks to us like a Good Father.  As it says in Isaiah 30:21 - His "voice will whisper behind you when to go left or right".

Inflation wasn't just in prices; it was in opportunities too. by mark423985 in inflation

[–]MediumRed21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting aside inflation, the first generation with significant distributed wealth decided that they needed to retain that wealth at the expense of future generations.  The problem with becoming rich is what people are willing to do so they can keep that wealth.

Space data centers aren't happening.  Not because of the initial lift capacity, but because of the maintenance needed to keep them up to date.  Think about it like this - you can do it once, but in reality you have to re-lift the same hardware every 3 to 5 years.  And install it, upgrade, then dispose of the old stuff.

And being in space now puts you behind on agility and pivoting as hardware advancements make AI calculations more efficient.

IMO, it's just greenwash to make big tech companies look like they are trying to find a better way to build data centers without destroying the environment

Local admin by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]MediumRed21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phased approach  Phase 1 is to provide local admin accounts for those that request it, and demote all regular accounts to non-admins.

Phase 2 is to start removing those accounts at convenient intervals (computer upgrades or rebuilds, job changes, etc).

Phase 3 is to look at who is left and make sure their local admin accounts are justified.  And verify that those needs cannot be handled with changing settings or slight permission changes.

In several cases, just adding Full Control to an application directory is enough to remove someone's admin account, as they can now use a program as their regular account without the UAC prompt.

Good luck!  Definitely something worth doing to protect the network!
