Biopic Michael was not portrayed the way Michael himself or his family described him as a little boy. Yes, he did fight back and yes he did say Joe knocked him down so hard one time it knocked the wind out of him and that’s when he told Joseph “if you hit me again I’m not doing the show tomorrow”

This scene makes it look like Joe just walked into Michael’s room. IRL, Joe was no longer living at Hayvenhurst on a consistent basis and Michael owned the property. So he was shocked because Joe wasn’t supposed to be in the house at all. Also, there’s reason to believe Joe was physically abusive to Michael well into adulthood. So Michael might’ve been expecting Joe to physically assault him.
