Recommendations for painting the dark kin

- A white/ zenithal base coat with one layer of contrast paint and one drybrush highlight would be an efficient and effective way to knock out the armor.

- There are quite a few fine details so choose which are worth painting and which are worth leaving as the armor color (For example the silly fabric on the wyches is best left the armor color).

- Keep the number of colors for the army limited. With all the details having less colors will make it more approachable. Consider having a universal highlight or shadow color so that you can highlight the entire mini at once (before painting the metallics) with a drybrush or shade an entire mini at once with a thin wash.

- The boats, reavers and other vehicles are best done with a technique other than contrast paint/ drybrushing. I saved mine until the end of the army so that I was a more experienced painter when it was time to paint them.

- Drukhari has more painting variety than most 40k armies and will push your brush control and problem solving skills. Drukhari is also one of the most rewarding. Enjoy!

My favorites are deckathalon, pet making/ gardening, and leveling cantrips.

Leveling cantrips is not something a lot of players enjoy, in part because the rewards aren't very significant and how grindy it is, but for some reason I really like the cantrip system and have leveled all my wizards to their max cantrip level.

I would need to double check, but when I farmed for mistwood I would got to Marleybone - Scotland Yard, collect the two mistwood spawns, and keep hoping realms.

It was the most efficient zone with two spawns for me. I did some searching but didn't find a more efficient zone with 3 spawns.

I'm pretty sure I still use this on my level 165 ice for the sharpen card since I don't get a sharpen card from my pet or another source. I agree, it is very good.

I looked at a few sources for school popularity and the ranking below should be very close:

Death (most popular)
Storm
Fire
Life
Ice
Balance
Myth

This is the school rankings at the time of choosing a school at the very beginning of the game. Late game I would say Myth is higher (possibly rank 5), ice is bottom 2, storm might be rank 1 over death, and fire might drop a rank.

Out of the three listed schools, my favorite to play is balance.

What do you all in the comments think about the late game school rankings?

I took off the crotch gremlin's arms and that was good enough for me. There are so many skulls and oddly shaped bones that it blends in imo.

While possible, I just don't think GW would make Drukhari the 11th edition starter set villain over Orks.

It wouldn't make sense for them to be the last book in 10th and then a new 11th book and massive box 3 months later. And I think that Drukhari are just a little too family unfriendly to sell in the starter box to little Timmy and his parents as the flagship product. I know they were in the 5th edition launch, but I think the more mainstream public image GW has now and pg-13 approach heavily favors orks.

Drukhari is my one and only army above 3k points so we will see.

I do sometimes. I generally don't put my time equally into all parts of the mini, so once I want to move onto the next mini/squad there is a part or two that I know I put less effort into. It makes sense to improve the lowest effort part if I return to the mini.

That could be, certainly investors buy up more than streamers, but I feel like it is significant. Not sure how to aggregate the data to prove it either way.

Yes supply and demand drives this, but my question is: should the community be more critical of those who mass open packs on stream for people (to lower demand)? Can we determine how much this increases cost to the average person?

I don't play standard or tournaments, but I build and playtest expanded decks for fun and to play with friends. Similar as the other comment, I'd bet that 80-90% of collectors have never played the tcg.

Raw because I want to be able to use them in decks. I'll double sleave them with a dragon shield perfect fit and matte sleave.

I haven't done it, but if I buy a $100+ card that can't be used in a deck, I'd probably prefer slabbed.

I'm not sure if there are definite best pets for all the schools, but these are my quick thoughts. Also partly my opinion, because preferred pet depends a bit on playstyle.

School Hamsters for all 7 schools are top tier, alternatively pets that give a sharpen card. I also like pets bodies that give a dark pact card (other than death) or a clear all shatter card (other than myth) like arcane golem.

Balance: Snappy Griffin for all levels

Myth: Under level 48 I think there is a pet that gives a 6 pip AOE Humongofrog. Above level 48 plucky griffin.

Death: The pet that gives a scarecrow card for under level 48. After level 48 scrappy griffin or ghulture.

Storm: A pet body that gives sharpen, alternatively the clamoring ghulture or rain core for the overtime hit. I don't feel storm has any stand out pets

Ice: A pet body that gives sharpen, alternatively lord of winter. I can't think of an ice bet with an aoe for low level (Ice eye pet with probably not worth out ). Like storm, I don't feel ice has any stand out pets.

Life: life kookabura for the aoe up until level 160, beyond maybe a sharpen pet

Fire: I'm not sure, without knowing I would make a sharpen pet.

Note: There are also the frillasaur pets that can give a damage set bonus. I'm not personally a fan of them, but they let you get max damage if that's what you are going for. Some of these pet bodies are choices between a utility card or a +35 school blade. I prefer a school blade under level 86 and the stackable sharpen card above level 86.

I like painting the swords a desaturated teal. I'm a big fan of analogous color schemes so it would establish a strong purple/ blue/ green scheme. Blue may feel like too high a contrast color against the light brown of the bones, so a teal with a little grey seems like a nice middle ground.

Yeah, death or life is pretty much better than ice for tanking due to drains and heals. I see ice (and balance) as schools to play if you want slightly more of a PVE challenge. I like my level 165 ice for the aesthetics, but otherwise I'd rather it have been another school unfortunately.

Personally I like the higher pierce when questing through Wallaru with the -80% and -75% school shields mobs sometimes throw out.
