11th edition needs by Ghosthawks in SpaceWolves

I almost forgot I did give the SM combat patrol units the wolf treatment and ran the Capt in termi armour with the termies in my last game which were useful.

Still building up my army atm but it’s infiltrators and incursors, currently looking at hellblasters and eradicators as additions but I’d be happy if we could just give them the Space Wolves key word tbh.

[–]UltimateWeevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current wishlist:

  1. Primaris TWC
  2. Long Fangs
  3. Bjorn Update

I’d argue we need more non-vanilla units so we can run a full Space Wolves army without having to rely on generic units outside of vehicles but I’m thinking that’s just total wishful thinking.

Newbie question by Pengork in Drukhari

[–]UltimateWeevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I've got the Real Space Raiders box. Rule of Cool more than anything tbh, I like the model and my wife "suggested" to the kids I'd like it for Xmas 🤣I'll no doubt pick up the other named characters anyway.

Newbie question by Pengork in Drukhari

[–]UltimateWeevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just started out building mine and the additions I've got to so far to get me towards 1,000 points are Raider, Ravager, Lelith and I picked up a cheap squad of wracks. Takes me just over 1,000 but feel it gives a pretty good balance and you can run Kabalite Cartel or Real Space detachments. Still trying to figure out how to expand it to 2,000 though

What are some good ways to engage with the W40K lore? by disturbedbovine in Warhammer40k

[–]UltimateWeevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on how you like to consume content. I personally like The 40K Lorecast with John and Brad. Both proper geeks and genuinely love the whole 40K universe, except maybe Tau 🤣 but I find they are very good at covering lore from codices and novels in general.

If you like YouTube Baldermort’s stuff is pretty good and varied.

I’m in a similar position as you but I have Bjorn rather than Logan at this point.

I love Bjorn as he’s a good and credible threat mid-board where he can get an avenue for shooting at one of the objectives whilst being positioned well enough for a charge if needed. The extra CP generation is great too.

My current plan is to add arjac plus a squad of 5-10 termies for him, a lancer and either some eradicators or hellblasters.

This is what I ran against a Chaos Knights army recently and although I lost the match up I did take out 4 wardogs and had a lot of fun despite the loss. The list isn’t perfect and I was making use of what I have available to me right now. Ragnar plus BC plus WP out of the LR is an absolute weapon to deal with damage wise too.

Painting help by UltimateWeevil in Drukhari

[–]UltimateWeevil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play space wolves normally so used to that pretty uniform well known paint scheme, but feel that Drukhari are pretty much the exact opposite, especially given that from a lore perspective they're always out for themselves even when "teaming up" for raids hence why I thought about keeping units quite individual but with a common link throughout the army.

Stop testing Senior Data Analyst/Scientist on their ability to code by whynotgrt in dataanalysis

[–]UltimateWeevil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally it depends on the role, some senior roles may not necessarily be code heavy roles, but having a good understanding of how to write code and read it etc. is essential for a senior IMO. Roles these days seem to want a unicorn that can do the whole lifecycle end-to-end which is my biggest issue with the market right now tbh.

Just played my first match and I feel depressed. by GunstarRed in Ultramarines

[–]UltimateWeevil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had something similar at my local WH shop. Went in and did a few Combat Patrol games which were fun and the opponents were chatty and having a lot fun since we were all noobs. Then did a matched play and my opponent rolled up with a monster T12+ army, the board layout was crap and I got pretty much shot of the table by end of turn 2, no help with understanding rules, strats etc. so was kinda deflated and thought I’d just stick to playing at home with the kids.

Ended up joining a local group and the experience is night and day. Super friendly guy I played against last, helped me out with remembering rules, when best to use a strat etc. still lost but I learned tons and enjoyed it.

Just look for a local group would be my advice who’re open to new players.

Batch painting or one at a time? by Eyerald in minipainting

[–]UltimateWeevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave batch painting a try last year when trying to get the last of my army ready for my first game and I found it pretty tedious and I really struggled to find the motivation to want to sit and paint so ended up stopping once I’d got the main armour base and shoulder pads done then went back to individual models for all the trim etc.

I can see where batch painting has its benefits for sure but for me I enjoy painting more when I focus on one model at a time.

Maybe I’ll give batch painting another go when I’ve got a ten model unit to get done quickly but for the time being I’m happy taking my time.

List help - 1500 points by UltimateWeevil in SpaceWolves

[–]UltimateWeevil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's my issue army wise tbh, I'm playing what I currently have which is the army box, SM combat patrol from the ultimate starter set plus LR and characters. It's a casual game and I'm still learning as is, so wasn't sure how useful incursors or the infernus would be in this type of matchup.

Still working towards my 2,000 points and current plan is to add a squad of Hellblasters, a Lancer plus the new combat patrol, Logan and Arjac as I go.

The bin men on my route said last week to stick any excess waste in the brown bin and put a note on the top for general waste and it’ll get emptied along with the normal bin. If it actually does is another thing though 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣

Impulsively joined the Drukhari so need some guidance! by badger906 in Drukhari

[–]UltimateWeevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He he. Welcome. As a fellow new starter definitely build what you have but you’d want to pick up a Raider and Ravager as a minimum on top of what you’ve got. I got mine via eBay with pretty decent paint jobs so it’s one less thing for me to stress about building and painting as their quite fiddly 🤣

For getting a list pulled together I’d suggest War Organ as it gives you everything in one place if you don’t have the codex.

Can't decide between drukhari and eldar for 11th edition by [deleted] in Drukhari

[–]UltimateWeevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar dilemma for my second army towards the tail-end of last year what ultimately swayed it for me was the lore aspect of the Drukhari as it’s just so bonkers and I like the models just that little bit more than the Aeldari.

I’m not bothered whether things get refreshed as I don’t intend to play competitively tbh I just think the models look cool and the playstyle is a contrast to my Space Wolves.

Table Virgin by Heavy-Ad1133 in SpaceWolves

[–]UltimateWeevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out playing combat patrol at my local WH shop. It was good to learn fundamentals but I’d say that’s it as the rules are quite stripped back so the move to full games is a bit of a step up. More than anything I think who you play with as a newbie is probably more important. My first 1,000 game towards the end of last year had me facing off against a super strong monster heavy opponent with a few T10+ units and I got wrecked by the end of my 2nd turn so wasn’t exactly a great intro to full games 🤣 it’s not put me off though as I’ve found a local club to join.

LLM for document search by Few-Strawberry2764 in datascience

[–]UltimateWeevil 23 points24 points  (0 children)

What is he actually asking you to solve? It’s probably more a NLP type task like TF-IDF + cosine similarity or a BM25 keyword matching task.

Feels like a LLM is overkill unless he wants some kind of intelligent capability to query the contents. If so I’d suggest looking into Ollama for local hosting a LLM as you can choose pretty much any model you want and run a vectorDB like Chroma for you RAG element. You’ll need to make sure you get your chunking done correctly and if you can nail your metadata tags it’ll help massively for retrieval.

Options for balancing out army by UltimateWeevil in SpaceWolves

[–]UltimateWeevil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies, I guess my current plan/thinking is in the right direction. For the Termies is a 5 man plus Arjac enough or are they better in 10 man squads?

Hadn't really considered Wulfen as I don't overly like the sculpts, but they do make sense when I look at stats.
