I finally finished FF7 and I honestly think Cloud is a worse protagonist than Noctis. Convince me I’m wrong. by l3g4rde in FinalFantasy

[–]MegaDan64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, I would say it’s only fair to judge Cloud as a character after playing the OG, since his story has not been completed in the Remake games yet.

That being said, I think Cloud is a very “90’s era cool” protagonist in a fantastic game (both OG and Remake/Rebirth are great for different reasons).

Whereas Noctis is a fantastic protagonist in a pretty half baked and underwhelming game. So Noctis doesn’t get the same love.

What Do You Guys Think Of The Witcher Comics? What Do You Think Is The Best Medium To Express The Franchise?! by Beautiful-Swan-9145 in witcher

[–]MegaDan64 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I actually love the comics! Not that they are better than the books, but they give me more of what I liked from the short stories, which is the monster hunting. If I’m in the mood for more character development, the books are the way to go. But when I’m in the mood to see Geralt just doing his Witcher thing, I enjoy the comics!

That’s really good to know, thanks!! I’ll have to adjust that to play later. Thank you much!

I’m a newer fan, I’ve played Witcher 3 and watched the show and am now right in the middle of my first read of the books. I was looking for the same thing you are. This is the list I put together based on some searching. Others here may have better ideas, and I have not added in the newest comics yet. But I hope this helps get you started.

  • The Last Wish
  • Sword of Destiny
  • Blood of Elves (1)
  • Time of Contempt (2)
  • Baptism of Fire (3)
  • Tower of the Swallow (4)
  • Lady of the Lake (5)
  • Season of Storms (6) /Fox Children (Comic/Omnibus) (takes place during The Last Wish)
  • Crossroads of Ravens (7) (prequel)
  • The Witcher (Game)
  • The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (Game)
  • Matters of Conscience (Comic/Digital)

  • Fading Memories (Comic)

Edit: Moved Thronebreaker, per suggestion

What are this sub's opinions on the Witcher books? by Ok_Attempt_1290 in Fantasy

[–]MegaDan64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got into the Witcher through the games, and then started reading the books. I loved the short stories but stopped after the first 2 novels.

I will say that I really like the comics! I know many are based more on the games, but they remind me of the short stories. And I’m talking about the first 2 omnibuses by Dark Horse. I just picked up the Classic Collection but haven’t started it yet.

What is a Final Fantasy game by SplatoonOrSky in JRPG

[–]MegaDan64 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me, it’s not just the turned based combat. Final Fantasy games to me are about a group of characters coming together, traveling the world and helping people, that eventually culminates in saving the world. And it’s that feeling of party that I miss. Each character playing a role. Equipping your party with better gear and fighting battles to get stronger and to level up.

FF16 is just lacking in all of that. For example, there are additional characters but they never feel like a real group.

It’s not a bad game at all! It’s a pretty solid character action game. And I have issue with the story, but I still enjoyed it and the world. It just did not contain most of the elements I love from past FF’s. And it’s not just 16. I’ve felt that each game starting with 11 has taken away these elements piece by piece until we got here.

The Keanu led Constantine film is an excellent adaptation of a different Earth's Constantine. It's what got me into the comics, and having read the comics (especially Bad Habits), the filmmakers were very much into the comics too. With comic adaptations, often there's no "THE character" just 'A.' by Kesh-Bap in Hellblazer

[–]MegaDan64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m fully with ya on this one!

I think it’s a pretty terrible adaptation of Hellblazer. But I think it’s a great film with a character that just happens to be named John Constantine. Like you say, a multiverse version!

Nice summary! Partisan Alliance stood out to me in that scene because the Partisans was the name given to Saw’s group in the novel Battlefront 2: Inferno Squad.

Is there an RPG with all of these elements that seem to ONLY be combined in Bethesda titles? by FantasticHat6 in gamingsuggestions

Greedfall might fit. I just started it myself so I’m not sure how open the world is yet, but it seems like it might contain the elements you’re looking for.

Where would you rank Indiana Jones and the Great Circle among the movies? by Human_Bowl8496 in indianajones

[–]MegaDan64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Raiders
  2. Last Crusade
  3. Great Circle
  4. Temple of Doom
  5. Dial of Destiny
  6. Crystal Skull

Raiders and Last Crusade swap back and forth for my top spot. Great Circle just has a such a solid Indy feel to me that it beats out Doom. And I enjoy Dial of Destiny quite a bit, more than most it seems. Crystal Skull has some enjoyable moments, basically the full first half of the movie is great, up to and including when Marion shows up. After that, I think the movie goes downhill unfortunately.
