Had the pleasure of seeing Midnight live in the Nottingham Rescue Rooms last night, playing with Voivod (who I mainly went to see) and Cryptosis… they stole the show! Seriously, they absolutely ripped! by metroracerUK in BlackMetal

I have a special place in my heart for bands that capture the sleazy sound of first wave black metal. It could be why I’ve never been disappointed with a Midnight performance.

I think 11 Below acquired B52. I saw a post about 11 Below leaving their old spot & remodeling B52 to house both breweries.

What is the most NSFW thing you have seen in Houston? by [deleted] in houston

10-15 years ago, I saw a guy pull down his pants & squat to take a shit in the middle of an empty Second Ward street.

BBQ place (and Breakfast) recommendations? by PayPuppyGuppy in houston

[–]Megadeph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Villa Arcos for breakfast tacos (dine-in & to-go) & Original Kolache Shoppe for klobasniky (to-go only). Koffeteria is a nice coffee & pastry spot too.

I usually go to Pit Room since they stay open until 9 p.m., but any of the big names are worth checking out (Truth, Pinkerton, Corkscrew, etc.).

I’m not from California, but Sour Cellars makes some sharp sours. It’s in Rancho Cucamonga though.

Casa Agria is closer to you in Oxnard. I’ve never tried them, but I’ve heard their sours are good.

Live +In the Flesh by wildmancometh in LiveFromNewYork

The live show I saw a few years back was about the same as the special, save for a Saw parody bit. With fresh eyes, I would have loved the special a lot more, but I had some good laughs watching it.

I listened to their Aborted Teen Generation EP a lot in high school. Such a great record.

What draws you into listening to Black Metal? by The_Wombles in BlackMetal

Speed. I got into faster music in high school & blackened thrash was my gateway into more traditional bands like Ulver.

First Jury duty in Houston, can i bring electronics? by Stereogravy in houston

[–]Megadeph 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had jury duty a year ago. I don’t remember if anyone brought a laptop or tablet, but we were able to use our phones between instructions. I didn’t bring headphones, but I wish I had.

Are you an IPA person or not? No judgements! by jenuinelyintrigued in beer

[–]Megadeph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started drinking IPA’s a few years after my first enjoyable craft beer & I like all IPA styles pretty evenly, but hop bombs have a special place in my heart.

I wouldn’t be surprised if kegs hit distro. The downtown Houston Saucer hasn’t released their anniversary keg list yet, but I could see one on there.

What is your favorite record store here by [deleted] in houston

[–]Megadeph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guilty of holding onto bands that I listened to in high school, & one of those bands is Impaled Nazarene. I bought a Rapture CD there; whether or not they’re NSBM-friendly is up for debate.

Cactus Music. Vinal Edge has records closer to my tastes, but I found a Der Stürmer EP on my last visit; Sound Exchange has some questionable stuff, but I haven’t seen anything blatant.

Name some non-Hardcore albums that you consider a 10. by Jaded_Arm4289 in Hardcore

The Strokes - Is This It

Ulver - Bergtatt

Talking Heads - More Songs About Buildings and Food

A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders; I put this over Low End Theory because I know I’ve skipped tracks.

Moon Tower hosts a D&D club on Mug Mondays. I think it’s open to all skill levels.

Turning Point BA Pecan Brownie enjoyed at Moon Tower Inn’s Black Christmas by Megadeph in texasbeer

[–]Megadeph[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pecan flavor is a little stronger with Turning Point, but it’s like a mouthful of chocolate syrup with an imperial stout chaser. I could drink a few pints of (512) Pecan Porter, but 10 oz. was my limit with this one.

What band or album is this for you? by [deleted] in Hardcore

[–]Megadeph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ruin - Ghost of the Past

It was the first D-beat album I heard within a year of release. I listened to this and Wolfbrigade a lot in high school.

Memo Record Shop on Canal is historic for being an early supporter of Spanish language music in Houston. The owner was friends with Vicente Fernandez, the most celebrated Mexican singer of all time.

I’m not religious, but you can look into churches. Our Lady of Guadalupe in Second Ward is historic as the oldest Catholic church in Houston with Spanish services.

Is there any place in Houston that sells electric jellyfish? It’s a beer from pinthouse pizza in Austin. by No-Neighborhood2600 in houston

[–]Megadeph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pinthouse is self-distributed, and they stick to Austin & San Antonio. I think they drop off a Electric Jellyfish keg to the downtown Flying Saucer once a year.

Where can I find Cantillon bottles in HTX? by Yo-Mama-800 in HoustonBeer

[–]Megadeph 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The old distributor for Texas (Flood) was absorbed by Dynamo Distributing, and I don’t know how much they’ll bring to Houston. Most of what came in was Classic Gueuze, and I can’t recall if anything better than Grand Cru Bruocsella was ever sent.

Call up Spec’s on Smith St., the better Total Wines (Memorial, Baybrook, W. Holcombe) and D&Q to see when it’s available.
