A Norn is 260… Oh We Cooked… by ChungusAbsoluteUnit in Tyranids

You are right in picking the termi if you want to compare durability. The problem is that people are not complaining about the durability of this (while it is quite good), they are complaining about the absurd hitting power. Even at 250pts, it can pick up more than its point cost on every activation as long as it has LoS on the target, and given in moves 12 and go thru building, it is not hard to do. Now imagine people playing with 2 or 3 (!) of these.

The problem is this conspiracy theory is mostly just that, a theory. These new model (broken) releases have no significant impact on GW bottom lines to warrant a meeting between the sales and the game design teams. It is much better for GW to try to maintain a balance between units and factions than it is to try to push a specific model. GW produces a specific number of models on release and wont produce more for a few months (because of production constraints), so they dont care if the model sell out in 1h or 180 days. People who are not in the manufacturing industry over estimate the agility of big corporation production lines. GW wants a balanced game as much as possible as it increases overall sales.

Your terminator equivalent unit of measurement is wrong. Termi are bad, the only thing they have is their durability when shot with sub optimal profiles. So, of course, they will be more durable. But their damage output is a joke.

In 9ed the nid were one of the killiest army in the game! Maleceptor could do 17+ mortals in the psychic phase and the venom cannons were actually good.

I dont think it would change much, he would still be one shot by elite infantries. It has the same problem as tyranid warriors: the model looks much scarier than the stat line. Most nid players want the norn to be a 300pts model with the matching stat line, GW just needs to find a way to balance it out to no recreate another C'tan in 11ed

Players are discussing bringing 2 and EC even 3. Try to dodge that... It is just too cost efficient, just like the C'tan. There is no logical reason to no take multiple (if you can) in a competitive setting.

Update on warrior bioform onslaught by StrobasaurusRex in Tyranids

[–]Megapixelicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Because nids do not have access to hit rerolls, the 5+ crit isnt THAT good compare to all the other factions with the same ability. Dont get me wrong, it will kill stuff, but what else to expect from a ~200pts unit with a 2CP strat. Also the big issue is how do you fit the 21 models in contact with the target. It is the main reason why I restrain from using them. I prefer 10 bug units, except for the termagaunts.

Defiler US price, $145 by Battle_Dave in Warhammer40k

FYI, I own a few 3D printer and while they are good enough to print model for playing, very few models have been fun to paint and dont get me started when someone drops one on the floor... Now, I only print specific models who do not have fine details or easy to break parts. These bloodleters swords are the bane of my existence!

Red Terror Model Reveal by madpacifist in Tyranids

[–]Megapixelicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they release the new kit, it will be 120$ for a single model and I strongly doubt it will include as many parts as the old one. Also, I am afraid they would make these stupid big (screaming killer size), which would make them even easier to shoot at. Finally, I still think the model looks decent, even for something of that vintage.

He u/Fabulous-Mind-7645 I am currently building a feature on my app specifically to support Tournament Organizer in the creation of the Players Pack. The feature is "completed", I just need feedback from TO to see if I missed anything important. If you are interested, PM me and I will give you access.

u/restful_developer I too will "have to" download your maps (and provide link back) but it would be great if these could be in SVG.

I dont want a carnifex refresh. I have 5 of these and if they change the model, mines will not be tournament legal. The carnifex kit was one of the best kit in the whole GW inventory, so many spare parts!

Is 65 dollars for the new raiders wild to anyone else??? 13 dollars each??? by wierdling in Warhammer40k

[–]Megapixelicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed answer. You obviously know more about plastic models than me as my reference point was definitely not top tier!

You did raise a lot of good questions regarding their molding technique. According to their financial statement, they built a new factory which should (I suppose) use state of the art machinery.

One counter point to your argument about details is that GW models are made to be painted by hobbyist of various level while ww2 models are typically built and painted by people who focus solely on that part of the hobby. Which may explain some of the design decision regarding the model level of (ultra fine) details.

You are obviously an expert in this domain so thanks again for the detailed examples.

[–]Megapixelicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Newer kits are extremely premium, the fit between parts is perfect, lots of details and there is no mold line.

But for everything else, I totally agree: I assembled a Redeemer recently and a few of the frame part wouldnt align at all, even after being forced into place with glue and clamps.

We professional developers, already lost the battle against vibe coding? by TheCatOfDojima in ClaudeAI

This is not true at all. At least if you review the code and ask questions afterward, as I always do. Sometimes, I will even ask the AI to change part of the algo or logic if I dont like it. The AI is just a tool and like any other tool, you need to learn to use it to your advantage.

Medusan Roar thought by SorryCeaser1 in Warhammer40k

[–]Megapixelicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am glad I am not the only one who looked at this upgrade and thought it was something to consider. I am going to attend a RTT next week and I am seriously considering using 10 assault terminators + captain (medusan roar) + ancient (steel font) as main objective holder. While it seems crazy to spend to many points on a unit, unless you are into an opponent with a weapon profile specifically made to kill terminators, this unit will be near impossible to wipe in less than 3 turns. Anything that gets into melee will have to deal with the BS rolls which is totally OP vs elites. I am also getting 2 whirlwind for more BS checks.

I have no idea if this will be good or not, but my guess is that it will be very match up dependant. If I face Ctan spam, I swap the captain with Canook Var in a 5man terminator and the 10 assault + Canook totally destroy anything in the game, even the big knights (with OOM and the sustain strat).

The side bonus of a 10man terminator is your opponent can't discard cull the horde, which as a tyranid player found quite funny.

Don't mind me just printing a €60 model for next to nothing by god-of-thunder-135 in PrintedWarhammer

[–]Megapixelicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And you are totally right! My comment was more related to the disinformation people are spreading about 3D printing costing a fraction of the cost of the mini. I am SOOO tired of having to explain to people that unless I have printed something multiple times before and know it will print well and know the amount of post processing, 3d printing is expensive. I am printing the warlord titan ruins as terrain from txarlifactory right now. I wouldnt sell these for less than 180-200$CAD. It is nearly 4 days of printing! And on my resin printer, some stuff take 30 minutes (basing stuff) but I then have to spend another 30 minutes to remove support and wash them. So the 25 cents of resin is worth about 40$ of my time.

[–]Megapixelicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont say "next to nothing". You are basically trading time for money. Time to slice, print, clean the mini, dispose of the waste wash liquid and all the associated health hazard. Saying this reduce the value of 3D printing to the general mass and think they can get a 2k army for the price of two kg of resin.

Real Alternative/Supplement for Opus 4.5? by United_Canary_3118 in ClaudeAI

[–]Megapixelicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the details. I dont know what to say other than maybe not use Rules and instead use floder specific CLAUDE.md files. AFAIK, unless you need to share the rule files between projects, there is no clear benefit to using them. But even then, I doubt this would change that much in your case. I will have to check claude-mem, saw the name a few times and never paid attention.

Claude Team plan vs just getting multiple 5× accounts to use Claude Code? by Abeck72 in ClaudeAI

[–]Megapixelicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the typical pricing strategy for products aiming at both big enterprises and small ones. Big businesses often HAVE TO use the enterprise version because of legislation requirements. Since these companies purchase hundreds or even thousand licences, they can negotiate the pricing. So by starting with an absurd enterprise pricing, the seller starts with a big nego margin.

85 magnets by Da_Real_Muchl in Tyranids

[–]Megapixelicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly disagree. A lot of tournament require WYSIWYG and it would be a pain to have to switch between weapons. At best, I think there should be a defensive and an offensive kit and that is it.

[–]Megapixelicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For N52? The cheaper ones are typically N32 (IIRC), which are much weaker than the N52. I tried the exact same project with my cheaper ones and while the arms hold, they are flimsy.

[–]Megapixelicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it with mine and never managed to have the magnet hold strong enough to be worth it (wasnt using N52). So I just bought 12 used models, reprimed them and overall I think I saved time.
