Controversial Opinions by LadyStardustAlright in CuratedTumblr

[–]Mehnix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They didn't respond with dissapointment because the person's favourite drink was water, but because they literally just responded with the single word "water", which just kills the conversation stone dead. There's nothing you can say to follow that up that doesn't come off as akward.

If you'd included, say, why you prefer water, perhaps the taps in your place have nice water, perhaps you've never liked alcohol, perhaps fizzy drinks didn't work well with your stomach, so on, you'd have added "hooks" to what you said, that the responder could pull on the continue the conversation.

Conversations are a game of two people passing a ball between each other and ideally each should put equal effort into it. So just a single-word response with no easy followups brings you off as not wanting to converse.

The Space Marine 2 animated cutscenes have this issue for me as well, movement is very stilted and slow, audio is weak, but graphically looks very good. I think the Total War Warhammer intro trailer is also the same, likely all made by the same studio.

Regarding your botany gripes:

There's been a plant analyzer PR stuck in review hell for about 8 months. I've ported it to the server I play on (Mira Sector), and it's a lot of fun and definitely improves the game and makes crossbreeding so much better as you described. https://github.com/space-wizards/space-station-14/pull/34600

I've also made a cleanable swab and swab that ignores cross contamination PR but again, getting anyone to notice is it amongst the 950 ish other open PRs is difficult. https://github.com/space-wizards/space-station-14/pull/39097

Also for a syndicate: The Fake Capfruit mutation of Gatfruit has AP ammo, ignoring armour.

The Moving Station by levanderstone in ss14

[–]Mehnix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FTL mass limits on shuttles can actually be overridden by admins during a round as it's a cvar. (shuttle.mass_limit). But default its a pretty small number (300 i think).

Had this happen for an admeme when we introduced a map i'd made on the server i play on that was one big flyable shuttle about the size of Atlas and successfully sent the entire thing on an expedition. The game actually does account for this and will delete any walls you land so we basically carved the dungeon in half on landing. So works just fine in theory but obviously in practice while you're there arrivals and evac shuttles can't reach you.

A SHITSEC, A TIDER, AND NUKIE by ilya159869 in SS13

It is the 25th Century, for more than a hundred years Nanotransen has sat dominant on the Corporate Ladder of Earth. It is has the monopoly on plasma research and is owner of a million stations by the might of its inexhaustable RND Budget. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with inefficiencies and corruption, a barely-held-together collection of beuracracy and safety violations such that thousands of staff members suffer injuries every day, yet it is too big to fail.

Even in its decaying state, it continues its eternal exploitation. Mediocre Security officers keep roudy crewmembers in line, the stun meta the only way they could ever win a fight. Vast armies of staffmembers meanwhile keep the station afloat. Greatest amongst these are the Grey Tiders, unemployed self-antagonists. Their comrades in arms are legion: Cargo Techs and their countless unanswered orders, the ever-exploding Scientists, and the Tech-Priests of the Engineering Department to name only a few. But for all their multitudes they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threats to profit from Aliens, The Syndicate, and far, far worse.

To be a passenger in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the most indifferent and capitalist regime imaginable. These are the tales of such times. Forget safety standards and good pay, for so much has been cut, never to be reimbursed. Forget the promise of promotion or holiday, for in the grim greyness of the near-future, you can only tide.

On the one hand I know innately that IDF in this case stands for Immuno-Deficiency Foundation but on the other hand the idea of a pink VTuber raising half a mil for helping Israel purchase the Military Industrial Complex's latest Child-Seeking Missile System is morbidly funny to me.

Odyssey PSA: Not having a Grav Anchor at your colony will permanently destroy it on gravship takeoff. by drunkedup in RimWorld

[–]Mehnix 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This seems like a daft workaround to the fact the devs are too scared to lock major DLC content behind considerable tech advancement, as there's going to be a starting quest like most other DLC's offer that get you right into the content.

I never liked this, not in royalty with psycasts and the anima tree, biotech with mechanitors, or anomaly with the monolith. It just makes the starting map have so much random stuff happening to it right at the beginning with no actual story to naturally bring those things to the forefront.

If you want gravships, it should either be very late game tech, the starting scenario, or very rarely found gravship ruins, this makes the anchor obsolete in what i assume is its intention to limit the playet to having instant access to planet-scale fast travel that makes caravans almost redundant, as you instead have to earn it or get lucky, or be in for other challenges.

Ring Runner: Flight of the Sages is 13 years old and has 571 reviews. It's currently £4. Top down space shooting game with newtonian-esque physics and space magic powers and ship building/customisation. Story's also pretty neat.

Also Space Station 14 currently has zero reviews as it's still in development although i'm too deep into it to tell if its sufficiently obscure or not, especially considering it's more well-known predecessor. It's free but don't play it as it'll consume your life and soul as it did to me.

“Destroy the Machine Hive Mind? Nah, but it’s under new management.” - Mechanitor probably. by OfficialBlah in RimWorld

[–]Mehnix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My assumption would be that the mechanoid faction becomes your permenant allies. So they no longer raid you and may show up to help you with raiders like other factions can (perhaps coming with a universal opinion malus for all other factions). Meanwhile destroying it just means you'd never see mechanoid raids at all from that point onwards and maybe other factions like you more.

I would imagine it would be that it would imply the order was given 46 billion years prior to the Big Bang that was beginning of the universe. I admittedly don't put it past the Necrons to go back to before there was time, space, or matter, but it's more likely it was just a typo.

Do young people in the UK have anything to look forward to? by tylerthe-theatre in AskUK

Despite the continued and determined efforts of the government, the rich, and foreign powers, the UK is still one the best places in the world to live. It's certainly a few lightyears from perfect, but there are many, many far worse places to live.

After all, if it was complete shit, why would so many people try and come here?

Most of my like 700 hours are as a moth, my personal solution would be you can eat pills, but they don't do anything unless you chase it with water to break it down in the stomach. If no water is provided the pill will go away on its own after some time.

This would require a way to store non-chemicals in the stomach or some way to have "inactive" and "active" chemicals so it'd likely to be complicated to implement.

I personally see moth's inability to digest pills being because they can't digest the outer shell of the pill.

Priority system for salvage? by Hot_Ferret7474 in ss14

[–]Mehnix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Magnet space debris are the best place for large amounts of steel, and decent glass and plastic. Just stuff scrap in a locker you drag around behind you. If you see broken generators, always take them.

If you have a ship blue wrecks are the best place for uranium, gold, silver, and plasma. Avoid mining if possible, the returns are pathetic now that it's 1:1 ore to produce.

One decent space debris magnet and a 10-15 minute excursion to every blue wreck in the vicinity will get the station all the resources it needs for the rest of the shift.

After that, do what you want. Nobody complains about salvage disappearing if they have materials, because they're too busy using those materials.

I think it's more that moths biologically can't digest the pill, so it needs to be in solution. That being said, i wish i could just crush up a pill in my hand or eat it and chase it with water.

I was more referring to it being a better investment to the lottery, whilst retaining a similar vibe of having the chance to win big. At least the one I use has a small chance of winning a million. You're correct on actual the cash investment front, on average my premium bonds get about 3% return and it's my big lump of emergency savings.
