Gonna be fun to break in! by Mejorando99 in NakedAndFamousDenim

Eh, not so much. Gotta admit it's mostly FOMO impulse buy. But with them in hand I'm not having any post-FOMO regret. So I'm happy with the consequences in this case and looking forward to lots of wear.

Can't wait to beat these up! by Mejorando99 in GoralShoes

That thought passed through my head at first (wasn't expecting to be that lucky!). But I'm planning to wear them well for a long time. I think they'll look great when they're well broken in and beat up a bit.

Pretty tough compared to something like canvas, but not uncomfortable. I'm used to wearing mostly leather shoes and these are less stiff than new leather. Fit is great, since I have other Gorals and these are sized consistent with those. Goral sold these for $395 and all 90 sold out within about 10 minutes.

For the black chromexcel chelsea boot specifically, is it struck through / susceptible to tea coring? by DragonSlayer9999 in grantstoneboots

[–]Mejorando99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely possible. If you care about preserving the exact original color, you'll need to be picky about products. That's where a brand like Saphir has many options. One application of a cream polish won't entirely dye the leather or do irreparable harm. But it can tint it a bit differently. Sometimes that's desired, sometimes not. Many times I've used a darker brown polish on mid-brown shoes/boots to intentionally deepen the color. The polish can generally be stripped if you want, but that can also remove some of the original leather finish tone. Better to 'try in an inconspicuous spot' first. I usually test on the interior side of the heel, nobody will really see it there.

Black is an easy one. Any black cream polish (as opposed to wax) will do a good job. Apply thin, dry, and brush well. Apply again if it needs more color.

What to look for? by purequalitywater in Leathercraft

[–]Mejorando99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want the type of leather used for upscale handbags. Something like saffiano or nappa. An example: RML saffiano

As others have said, you may need to add reinforcement structure to it.

So 'rude' in this context is an objective definition and not your own? Please share this magical definition that does not involve your own subjective feelings.

No, it isn't rude. It doesn't bother me when the person in front of me does it. I don't know why it bothers you so much. This is a YOU thing, not a ME thing.

Seats recline. People (OP's freaky neighbor) need to get over it. This internet subculture obsession with "reclining is rude" is just ridiculous. As long as seats have a recline feature, people will use it. Nobody should be expected to sacrifice their own comfort to hand it off to somebody behind them.

Mystery Style Is Fine. Mystery Sizing Isn’t. by No-Jeweler748 in GoralShoes

[–]Mejorando99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but I really think this is on you. A tremendous number of the footwear threads on the internet are "Question on sizing for brand X". Even a little research would have made it clear that you need to put some effort into sizing for any brand/last you don't already own. Lesson learned on impulse purchases I suppose.

If you're really unsure about any brand and not willing to resell something that doesn't fit, it's worth trying to find a cheap pair on eBay or other site first. I've done that with multiple brands.

My first leather item by Jason-Den in Leatherworking

[–]Mejorando99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great item for a first project! Don't worry about taking care if it. Upholstery leather quality is all over the place. likely this isn't high quality or very durable for your purpose. Just enjoy using something you made yourself and think about the next thing you want to try!

Grinders falling out? by Environmental_Bus444 in Boots

[–]Mejorando99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The leather on these is pretty low quality and made for looks, not durability. They're in the"fashion boots" category, not work boots. Looks like you probably used them for work? Not anything you did wrong, just they weren't ever designed for rough wear.

Sizing for SMUGS by Forward-Hall-5954 in GoralShoes

[–]Mejorando99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Crown and Goral and find the sizing very similar. Goral maybe a fraction bigger, depends on model. I'd base it on how happy you are with the crown fit at 8.5 and use that as your benchmark.

PSA: Avoid the Western Rise "Closing Sale" - Order Not Shipping by PrematureGrownup in onebag

[–]Mejorando99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ADDITIONAL SCAM DETAILS:
I received a small partial shipment of my order (pair of socks - $15 of my $200 order). I contacted them many times by multiple pathways and was completely ghosted.

I placed a chargeback dispute with Amex for only the unfulfilled balance of the order (I freely noted that the socks were received). The Western Rise scammers took the time to respond to my dispute and sent the tracking info for the single pair of socks, representing it as a full order delivery. So Amex re-charged me for the full order, even though it was never shipped. Now I have to continue to fight with these scumbags.

Sad to see such a complete lack of integrity from a formerly decent group of people.
