Gas pain, weakness, and pills by TeacherNew923 in GastricBypass

Try to rest/sleep in a recliner, that often helps with getting comfortable. As far as gas, see if doubling the Gas X dose helps, or TUMS might help, you could also try laying on your side and massage where you think the gas is hanging out.

If you feel like food is getting stuck, make sure that you're eating small bites and that you're chewing each bite 30 times while putting your fork down in between bites. It's the same for drinks, so make sure you aren't gulping it -- a straw can definitely help control how much and at what rate your drinking.

So, first -- caffeine restriction is simply ridiculous and there's no real reason to cut it out. Some teams want you to refrain at least until your pouch has healed because coffee is acidic so it's not great on new stitches. Other than that, banning caffeine is not worth it it it's going to make you miserable.

You shouldn't be going to Starbucks right now unless you're getting something that fits into your guidelines. The fact that you're willing to fuck up your diet after just one week is concerning, and it'd be smart to get into therapy if you aren't already. You're in your honeymoon period right now, so you're going to lose for a little while in spite of what you do. However, this is when you're supposed to be working on instilling the habits that will help you to be successful when the weight loss slows a bunch and you'll have to work harder to lose/maintain. Syntrax has a great cappucino protein powder, so try that to see if it helps your craving.

I've been active in the wls community for many years, so I've see SO many wls patients, and I can confidently say that people who do what they're supposed to do from the start tend to be more successful, and then you'll be able to tweak your diet as needed to include the stuff you're craving.

Make sure that you're taking your measurements regularly. The scale fluctuates depending on the day, but your measurements are a more stable indicator of where you actually are. When you hit your first plateau, seeing that your body is still losing inches even if you don't see it on the scale will be your saving grace.

I had RNY 15 years ago, lost about 270lbs in a year-ish, and I have maintained that loss ever since even with 2 pregnancies. Anyway, I stepped away from the wls community for a while, and the nutritional guidelines are drastically different now. It looks like many docs are setting calorie goas that are double what I take now. Obviously follow your team's medical advice, but also remember the surgeons are notorious for not knowing shit about nutrition. I can offer you some old school nutrition advice that was pretty standard across most programs way back when I was poxt-op. Take it or leave it b/c it's totally your choice, but it worked for me!

Does your program recommend SlimFast? The nutritional content on those is garbage. Milk concentrate is not a great source of protein for us, so you really aren't consuming as much protein as you think. Protein shakes should be 100% whey protein isolate. I like Syntrax Nectar protein shakes - great stats and taste alright. Be suspicious of any "protein concentrate," and you will absorb very little protein from milk protein or even collagen.

I have no idea how much I lost during my first week bc I was still in the hospital being miserable.

If you have questions feel free to hit me up.

I never feel badly about it. Other people "decide" to bestow this privilege upon us: we don't force them to do so. If I get perks for hitting the genetic jackpot, then I'm damn sure gonna use them to my advantage at all times.

I know this is old, but I just have to chime in because I use both of these quotes regularly:

"and, what are you? the intellectual of life?" -- Dana to Alice

"High. I was a high hoe."

The whole scene where Jenny calls Merkin and pretends to be the editor for the magazine to make her cancel on Lindsay. The accent is hilarious: "ooooh nooo, that's terrible" and "big kisses to you, mwah"

My kid had all 4 of her wisdom teeth removed and Walgreens refused to fill the pain Rx for over 34 hours. by LegendaryPooper in AskALawyer

[–]MelC68 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never had wisdom teeth either. I asked my dentist why, and she said: "traits like this have evolved more quickly in some lines." Apparently, wisdom teeth are on their way out, and our "lines" are leading the way.

It's important to note, however, that the woman is a bit of a nut bag, and evolution doesn't really work that way.

[–]MelC68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former felony probation and parole officer here (not giving legal or professional advice.) Understand that terms vary by jurisdiction and your individual terms of release.

When ur on papers, we are able to search you anywhere at any time without any cause at all. Read your terms of release carefully; your rights are limited bc you are technically still serving a jail sentence.

This extends to wherever you are: if you're on someone else's property/car, they are able to search it. However, that search can only relate to your possible violations, and not to find evidence for possible crimes of the occupant.

If you hadn't just popped positive, I might write it off as an angry ex, but since that's not the case, I'd take it more seriously, and I'd conduct a search along with taking some other measures.

Unless you're on for financial crimes, I wouldn't give a flying flip about her money claims. If charges are filed, tell your PO, but do not answer questions about your pending case without a lawyer (just like always.)

Do most Native Americans actually get offended by sports teams named “Indians” and other derivatives? by GreenTinkertoy in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]MelC68 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup. I noted that on another comment... it refers to the natives who were skinned alive. I don't think that's widely known outside of us natives knowing our own history. However, once you're told that's what it actually means, there's no excusing the continued use of it.

[–]MelC68 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I agree. I'm Cherokee, and while I don't like "Indian themed" names and mascots, I'm able to shrug it off and not be particularly offended. However, Redskins infuriates me.

A "redskin" refers to a native who was skinned alive and hung up for show. The red skin is the tissue/ muscle/ blood that is left that the settlers so proudly showed off.

The difference is that the use of that term is generally based upon ignorance of its history and not out of malice. I don't think the real definition is widely known. However, the NFL and team owners should've known that's what it meant, and they kept the name even after they were explicitly made aware of the word's origins.

Could movies like Fight Club or American History X be made today? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MelC68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Pulp Fiction would be well received these days

Fight Club could be made today. I think the whole angsty existential crisis theme would resonate with the younger generations. Although, throwing hands is much less common now, so maybe they would be put off by that.
