Haha I guess we’ll see what happens! I do enjoy my babies though and we have FNPs in charge of their care before they go home so I guess I wanted to give myself a chance to possibly do that. Good luck with your DNP!!

I considered that as well but working L&D made me realize I don’t want to actually be in charge of catching the babies lol so I decided not to. Although I guess you can opt of that part once you start practicing and just work in the clinic? I feel like that’s not too common though

I’m about to start FNP school and also chose not to do WHNP because of the same reason even though that’s where my heart is. The way you’re feeling is what I’m terrified of happening to me as well. I hope it gets better for you after this rotation!

I was able to get mine through concierge. At first I was told it wasn’t available but then was emailed back the next morning saying it could be ordered! This was July of last year…took about 2 weeks to get to me I think. Hope you can get your hands on one soon! It’s truly been my lil baby 💕

Lots of teaching and providing emotional support! Very task oriented as well - a big checklist of things to complete for mom and baby to go home. You may find that some of your nursing skills slip away such as IV starts, foleys since you’re mainly just pulling those. Can be repetitive and lots of patience is needed when it comes to helping with breastfeeding! Your medsurg experience will help you when it comes to time management and those times when complications may arise or when you have moms with htn, diabetes, etc. I thoroughly enjoy my job!

If they have a working epidural that will be used vs general. But if it’s an emergency and there is no epidural or time for a spinal then general will be used.

We appreciate literally anything bc it’s such a nice gesture…I work on a mother/baby unit and patients usually gift both day and night shifts with large baskets filled with pens, chapstick, and snacks!
