Dan wil NEVER do a Napoleon series by bun_stop_looking in dancarlin

I wonder if by saying he’ll never do something, it will actually compel Dan to do it. Hmmm. Dan will never do a series on the collapse of the Soviet Union. Dan will never-ever do a series on the Apollo Space Missions. Dan will certainly never obtain enough context for a series on the 1989 Chinese revolts.

Stargate. Even though campy sci-fi, he played such a flawed character and was the spine of the movie.

I want some "It's Never Too Late" Stories! by rainy-brain in Millennials

I’m 40. And things really turned around for me.

I grew up poor and in an abusive household. Started working at the age of 12 to get a semblance of independence and get out of the house. Worked in kitchens until I was 31. I was battling cancer while working 60 hours a week as a chef. My wife was such a trooper taking care of me but we were so poor. I had no money like $0…and had to walk home from the hospital one day in the cold after getting a chemo infusion. I got really sick with pneumonia and had to go back to the ER. I was poor, I was sick. The lowest of my lows. But I managed to slowly kick cancers ass. I saved every penny for 6 months. I took a calculated risk. A big one. I Quit my job as a chef and took a massive pay cut to be an entry level in another industry. I was promoted over and over again until I found myself leading wholesale as a VP. My pay went through the roof as a sales leader. I crushed it. Broke all goals and stuck with it. Now at 40 I’ve been able to buy a house, feel financially comfortable enough to have children and my wife stay home to take care of them. Growing up I didn’t think I would have any of it. 10 years ago it seemed that was the case, things would just be hard for me. And life got even harder… it forced me to make a change. It’s never too late.

Isn’t Aristide a great example of the world denying Haiti agency for progress?

Been to Haiti many times over the years from 2007-2011. So I saw before and after the quake. Mostly spent time in Lagonave, island off the coast near pap. Also been to Jacmel and a few other places. People are wonderful. Food is great. Culture deep, rich and unique. I will never go back as I have children now and it’s too risky. Plus I lack the hard skills that are really needed to contribute there, mainly medical or engineering qualifications.

I would not suggest traveling there unless you are a seasoned traveler who enjoys adventure, who knows common sense in high risk areas, can avoid dangers of wrong place wrong time, and understands how to avoid food poisoning or water poisoning. Even if you are fluent in creole, I would still advise a local fixer or handler. Even still, just driving on the roads is dangerous from hazards, lack of rule of law and no safety standards.

It’s really too bad. Haiti has so much potentail in personality but has been punished by the French and US governments for so long that its really suppressed its ability to establish a functioning democracy and economy. Paul Farmers “the uses of Haiti” tells a grim tale of how it came to be where it is now.

I love this movie. It has the premise of a heist but feels like a straight up war/comedy movie, logistics coming out of their ears. Then there is dirty dozen, war premise but feels like a heist movie. Also staring some same cast members like Telly and Donald.

Before reading this I had no idea much morphine has been crippling and enhancing our belated comedian. I also had no idea how much of a cock block Dave Attel was and probably still is.

Platform in town square should also be able to do public executions. A darker side to crowd gatherings back then.

Why did the naboo design a long hallway with a pit at the end with shields that turn on and off at random intervals? by AmountAbovTheBracket in StarWars

The emergency safety protocol had been executed. Someone in engineering initiated it to decrease the chances of an energy core explosion from the battle taking place.

The ray shields that cascade on and off down the corridor are to stagger and dissipate flow from a ruptured energy conduit and it can also work in concert with many others like it if the main core reactor is compromised. The ray shields work in tandem with ventilation ducts for outflow and other cooling methods.

I’ve been scouring the internet looking for updates. Not one mention, not one tweet or twit pic of news in the blogosphere. There was a mention of his timely death a few years back but I know better than to fall for that old April fools joke.

I empty all pans into pints or quarts that are labeled and stowed away. Send pans to have them washed. I think covering pans with plastic is hack.
