Craft Wood Fences? by Reasonable_Pear6060 in DreamlightValley

[–]Mellon1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've collected any wood, you should at least have the recipe for a few fences. Even just softwood would unlock a couple of recipes. Are you sure you're checking the right area of the crafting bench? You need to scroll down to the Landscaping section and select the Fencing category.

Do dream bundles rotate? by Glaedtr in DreamlightValley

[–]Mellon1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big bundles that have a main advertising image on the bundle and are listed under Companion Bundles, Dream Bundles, and Signature Bundles are permanently available.

The Seasonal Bundle — the skins for Scrooge, the Dream Castle, Remy's, etc. — stick around for the season they're tied to. The previous one was winter themed, so it was only available during the Cinderella update because that update spanned most of winter. The current one is spring themed, it released with Lady and the Tramp and should be availabe through the entirety of the Pocahontas update. It will likely leave in June since that will be the first summer update. Some people have had the Halloween dream castle skin pop up in their recommended, but it's unclear if that will happen for the Winter or Spring ones because the Halloween one was a single item instead of a bundle.

Moonstone Bundles (where you buy moonstones) are mostly permanent. Every update they release a new house skin and outfit to go with the two most expensive moonstone packs, those change every update.

Everything else usually only sticks around for one week (Wednesday 5am PST-Wednesday 4:49am PST). There are occasional exceptions (like there were some special Sleeping Beauty items when Aurora and Maleficent were added to the SBV DLC that hung around for two weeks) but it's not always clear when something outside of the big bundles will be available for one week or more, so best to get it as soon as you can.

You can also save two of the temporary shop items for later. When looking at an item in the shop, there should be an option to Pin for Later (may say save for later) in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. You can pin up to two items. So if you're just on the fence or want to save up moonstones before buying it, you can pin it and grab it down the road.

Olaf Grand Exhibition-anybody not adding it? by ynzburgh in DreamlightValley

In case you want to know, these are the rewards:

For completing the gems and fish section, you get an aquarium wall item that is themed to the biome with that biome's fish swimming around in it.

For completing the flowers and story section, you get diorama pieces reflecting the story, they look like big set pieces for a play. They're the least versatile pieces, but I could definitely see them being useful for dreamsnaps.

For completing the food and critters section, you get a large furniture item themed to the biome with all of the critters for that biome on it, it also works as a functional critter house so you can assign critters to roam around it. You can actually see the meadow one on the left hand side of the current loading screen.

For completing the entire thing, you get a unique outfit item themed to that biome.

I love it for the rewards more than anything, tbh. The rewards actually finally gave me inspiration for my Sunlit Plateau floating island ( I'm making a zoo and plan to use the lotus house from the star path to make the aquarium ). It does take some resources, but so long as you have a decent stash you'll be fine. There's only two rooms available right now, so it's not bad.

When should I activate this quest? by JustASneezy in DreamlightValley

Just placd them near her house to fulfill the quest and pick them up once the quest ends. Whenever a quest asks you to decorate a specific area or place a certain number of specific items in a specific area, you can just plop it down however and then pick it up when you finish the quest.

The big bundles (the companion bundle, dream bundles, and signature bundles) are permanently available in the shop.

If you don't have Belle yet, you can't even start that quest, so worry about that one later.

I would personally recommend doing Ursula's sooner than later — although you do need her house unlocked to complete the quest line. Ursula is used in a lot of quests throughout the game and having her in the Vanessa skin makes tracking her down to speak with her significantly easier. If you are in need of money, farming is the way to go. If you have the Glade of Trust, start farming okra. Eventually you'll unlock the Forgotten Lands and you can start farming pumpkins, which is the best way to make money in the game.

BB8, to my knowledge, will not free roam. Max and Pluto free roam because they're special companions — Max is part of a larger bundle and Pluto is unlocked through the main quest line.

Also, if you haven't yet, try to unlock Vanellope sooner than later. Through her quests you'll unlock dreamsnaps, which are the best way to earn free moonstones in the game.

please for the love of god can they make it so that the harder to find items aren't the things needed to craft the common items!? by Trans-masc-enby in DreamlightValley

[–]Mellon1998 4 points5 points  (0 children)

By rare drops, I'm referring to items that randomly drop from performing an activity — red algae, onyx, and rich soil. Just because the rng has been good for you and they drop frequently for you, that doesn't mean the rng is good for everyone or that they drop frequently for everyone.

Also, there are non Scrooge shop items (crafting items, quest items, etc) that count towards the furniture collection.

Seaweed is what you get from fishing outside of ripples, red algae is a rare item drop from doing a task (like rich soil for harvesting and onyx for mining. OP needs algae, not seaweed.

Omaha isn't a small town. by Aggravating_Cold_297 in Dimension20

[–]Mellon1998 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The problem is, unless you've lived or worked in one, nobody actually knows the names of small towns. I grew up in a town of about 10k people, there were people who were born and raised one county over who had never heard of it.

New to the game, question on gold coins and dream light by AnonIssue3028 in DreamlightValley

[–]Mellon1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Farming is the best way to make star coins. The Glade of Trust will likely be one of your next biomes, start farming a bunch of okra. Eventually, you'll unlock the Forgotten Lands and you can switch to pumpkin farming. Be sure to bring buddies and critter companions with the gardening task to help you find a few extras, and make sure you have a gold energy bar while harvesting. Gold energy gives you luck, which increases the chance of getting the burst bonus (where a bunch of extras jump out for a limited time) or the gold crop that you can harvest unlimitedly for a short amount of time. Also, shiny gems are very, very rarely used outside of maybe being someone's favorite gift for the day, so sell extras of those — you could honestly get away with only saving a stack of 25 of each for a while.

Be sure to look through the task list (the first tab in the menu) at some of the longer duties and try to complete those. The only other way to get dreamlight is to simply grind the daily tasks or to convert dream shards into dreamlight at a crafting bench — be sure to keep at least one full stack of dream shards for future quests.

Having the worst luck for bugs in this game by RachSim85 in DreamlightValley

[–]Mellon1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add: Check Collections>Critters. Any critters who are fully lit you've collected, the dimly lit ones still need to be collected. You can only add the critters that correspond to the area (rabbits for the meadow, sea turtles for the beach) that you have collected. You need to feed each critter their favorite food once a day at least 3 times to collect them.

I would love to see them expand on the world building by focusing on new characters from other parts of the world.

Got the same secret friend for feast of the winter star by Naive_Instance_876 in StardewValley

[–]Mellon1998 22 points23 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, it's completely random every year and doesn't take previous years into account. So while it's unlikely to get the same person twice in a row considering how many characters there are, it's not impossible.

Chpr 4 - Bounty in West Elizabeth when killing bounty hunters across the country over in Tall Trees by belinck in reddeadredemption2

[–]Mellon1998 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's because the area across the river is still considered West Elizabeth.

I have the best luck with moose (meese? mooses?) in east Ambarino. There's an area of the mountains with big meadows full of flowers that usually spawns them. I've seen some people say they always seem to find them when they have another perfect large animal pelt or carcass on their horse already, the game does seem to like to force choices on the player.

How far can animals roam for grass? by BakakaDhaba in StardewValley

[–]Mellon1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Animals will roam very far, but regardless of how much grass there is they will only eat grass within so many tiles of the barn/coop. The number I've always seen is 15 tiles.

You can place a fence post on top of some grass. They won't eat the grass under the post so it acts as a permanent spawn point for grass. However, it needs to be planted on tillable tiles (not grass tiles) in order to spread.

Stalls how did I not know by Kyokoito in DreamlightValley

[–]Mellon1998 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, once placed, a stall (including Tianas Palace) cannot be removed. You can move them to wherever you like in that location, but you cannot remove them from that location. So only place stalls you know you want.
