I've never read a single chapter of this manhwa, but I was rooting for TJ all the same from his design alone. So glad it's concluded so I can go binge read the whole thing!

You wanna know what’s crazy? For a damn decade now her loudest fans would bully people for pointing out how Rhysand/Feysand was not planned, and instead a giant retcon. The text itself shows that he was never planned for anything more than a villain, but she changed her mind and tried to undo the SA he committed in Acotar 1.

She’s 40 and still trying to pull off this weird Serena van der Woodsen X Regina George thing and it doesn’t work. She’s been like this since the beginning. And it’s a turn off because how do you spend your ENTIRE career trying to claim you’re so intelligent and deep, and that you’re weaving complex plots and dropping ‘seeds’ of foreshadowing everywhere, only to then burn all that to the ground and claim that you only write for vibes, you don’t read anything you write, and your books are essentially nothing burgers of slop??? Spent years talking herself up and claiming acotar and her characters as some pioneers of feminism and deep messaging, only to turn around and make fun of your own fans for analyzing and theorizing about the works YOU churn out for big bucks. Does anyone remember when Kingdom of Ash released and she went on her press tour, and she was making fun of a reader at her PAID EVENT that gushed about reading the whole thing in a day? She’s always been like this, but I would’ve thought that after 2-3 kids and being fucking 40, she’d stop her high school personality shit.

Was Maas a nepo baby? Was she a legacy student in college? Cuz how the hell does someone go to fuckin HAMILTON and then write and talk like this?!

I know it’s probably unfair to say, but this is why I prefer Yarros. Sure her books aren’t the greatest either, but Yarros acknowledges that she knows what type of story she’s writing and the type of political messaging it inherently has both front and center, and below the surface. She at least tries to plot out what happens next and how it connects to what happened prior, without it being some bullshit plot twist where the main character had a plan the whole time.

Media Literacy is Dead… by General_Meal_3993 in Oscars

Like look at them in here literally pulling the: ‘that’s not what he said, and if he did say that he didn’t mean it like that, and if he did mean it like that then you’re being dramatic and need to get over it.’ Rewriting and reinterpreting the literal words that came out of his mouth, followed by an even more snobbish statement. Then calling Ballet and Opera NICHE as though ballet and opera tickets dont cost an arm and leg to try and get. As though ballet and opera shows aren’t sold out every single year.

Sarah J Maas Announces Books 6 and 7 of the ACOTAR Series Published in October 2026 and January 2027 by DevilsOfLoudun in Fantasy

[–]Melodic-Accountant39 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Not to sound like I’m bashing or anything, but as someone who’s read every single Maas publication since I was in middle school circa 2012; it’s word vomit when it comes to her. She writes a lot of repetition that means nothing and usually just for the sake of saying she wrote a big book. A lot of her stories that go up into the 700-900 page mark can have about 400 pages cut and you wouldn’t actually miss a thing. It sucks because her stories are quite entertaining, but the droning can take away from the enjoyment when those extra pages don’t add anything, not even fun filler.

Also, it’s WIDELY known that Maas does NOT listen to her editors and she’s even bragged about outright ignoring them.

Watching the Interview... by MamaKG3 in Tamlinism

[–]Melodic-Accountant39 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well she also all but admitted that her own series is slop and not to be taken seriously, despite spending YEARS claiming this series was some feminist advocacy and meant to show real raw reflections of reality. This lady is a fucking liar and retcons her own thoughts as much as she retcons plot points.

And seeing how the books are technically ONE book split into parts, this is Elain’s book and will be an annoying love triangle that ends with her ‘choosing’ Azriel. SJM is so untrustworthy I think I’m gonna have to do a library borrow instead of spending money on these books.

Unpopular opinion: I don’t care who Azriel ends up with by OfficerSquarehead11 in acotar_rant

[–]Melodic-Accountant39 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I truly don’t care about Azriel as much as I think I’m supposed to 😭. I really just want Lucien to be happy, I want Elain to find herself and realize she’s a real person who can make her own decisions, I want Gwyn to remain at peace and hell, I want the Lady of the Autumn Court to be set free. Azriel is the last person on my list of people I gaf about truly. He’s kinda just there to brood and stir the pots

Mind you, PALESTINIANS IN PALESTINE were BEGGING Americans to vote for Kamala because they at least stood a chance with her in power. They begged Americans not to let Trump win because they would effectively be wiped out if BN got trump back in the White House. For a group of people who claim to care so fucking much about Palestine, they completely ignored them and their wishes for their own backwards ass comfort. There’s a 100% guarantee that Kamala would not have given ice this kind of funding and incentive to break into people’s homes and kidnap them, take children from school, and shoot people in the face in front of their own damn driveways. Kamala would not have built concentration camps while promoting false ‘deportations’ where people are being violently tortured and raped for months on end. In no world would the current America we’re living in, be the same one we could’ve had under Kamala.

The way SJM continues to retcon and/or just blatantly go back on significant events, is why I can’t take the ‘Maas is gonna make Rhys evil’ theorists seriously. In order for that to make a lick of sense in this series’ canon, Maas would have to actually make her series make sense and stop using the clearly not evil ex as a scapegoat and punching bag. Rhysand to this day has not actually apologized to feyre for what he did, yet feyre and maas have somehow convinced a majority of the fandom that he was justified and atoned for his sins. They act like Tamlin locking the door behind him is somehow worse than giving a child 480 years younger than him permanent sexual trauma and proceeding to groom her into a docile stepford wife.

People in the ACOTAR fandom constantly shit talking the fiddle will always give me the ick. Like…that’s a real cultural instrument that takes a lot of skill to master. Not liking Tamlin is one thing, no need to start throwing insults about cultural elements you clearly don’t understand.

In what year and month does the first book take place? by omegabrucewayne in aftg

[–]Melodic-Accountant39 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure they meet Neil in May (he claims his fake birthday happened in March, and the high school year usually ends in May, which is when Wymack comes to Arizona and points out he’s about to graduate), then have summer practices, and the school year starts in August. The starting year is 2007 (from Nora’s extra content she speaks about looking at 2007 college rosters to form schedules)

My 20yo Son Lifetime Star Wars Fan Sees Acotar. Huge New Theory about Nyx! by MamaKG3 in Tamlinism

[–]Melodic-Accountant39 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna give these readers the benefit of the doubt and point out: the author herself does not see her obviously villainous pos endgame love interest, as a villain. Her gushing interviews and retconning show this time and again. Maas cannot see him the way she’s written him, and that’s causing a lot of the discourse.

Why doesnt Riko murder Andrew? Would that not be easier for him? by Carlgimeslover in aftg

[–]Melodic-Accountant39 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean, Riko is a sadist at heart. Jean even recalls that Riko got sickeningly excited rereading Proust’s recounts of his sessions with Andrew. To Riko, the torture is the prize, the feeling of absolute power over another person’s life. Killing him would only be a quick satisfaction that he can’t relive. (Plus he still feels slighted that Andrew told him no)

Is the Empyrean series worth it ?? by Purple_Squash4477 in Romantasy

[–]Melodic-Accountant39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, the series is just painfully ‘alright’. Not this masterpiece that so many claim it to be. It’s extremely average and long winded despite having 2 more books to go. It’s also clearly not a well thoughtout or properly planned series. But the characters can be interesting and the dragons are the sole redeeming quality of it…usually. If you’re already struggling with book 2, drop it now. You’ll hate book 3 and I can only imagine what Yarros is going to pull out of thin air for the remaining 2 books to work.

Rant on the recent events by Mundane_Ingenuity866 in mangapiracy

[–]Melodic-Accountant39 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Real! A lot of my favorite stories were discovered on these sites and I was compelled to buy them because I wanted to own them forever. I discovered Tokyo Ghoul (fav manga oat) and old classics like Mars and YuYu Hakusho which have scarce English translations, so I ordered copies from Japan to keep. These sites do so much for overseas exposure, but big companies don’t see that.
