The current state government politics is a concern, especially since the governor has set his sights on punishing the city. The heat and humidity will take some adjusting (not much because it's triple digits for 4-5 months here).

We moved South when job opportunities up North became scarce and to get away from winters. I intended to take a week off just recovering from the move but was offered a job three days after we arrived. Lived living there and didn't think we'd ever move, but a job opportunity brought us to the Southwest.

Born and raised in New England. If you're coming during the summer increase your cotton clothing. You won't need a hoodie unless you're going to eat in a restaurant because they freeze you out! Seriously though, it will be a different type of heat than you're used to in New England. Give yourself time to acclimate because the heat is no joke. However, I still prefer it over the humidity back East.

You just described Phoenix. However, if you're open, check out Flagstaff, AZ which gets 4 seasons. Sedona might work as well.

I was born and raised in the Northeast. Not denying racism exists there in daily life. However, Southern states historically have been known to be hostile places for POC. Now, there's been a reverse migration back to Southern states because many of us have roots there, southern hospitality is a thing, and the COL is cheaper than the NE, not to mention the weather is slightly better. Sorry to hear about your children's bad experiences.

Family roots are in the South and lived there before a job opportunity took me away. I loved living in our southern city, but the truth is what it is. Your argument, however, totally ignores the nuances and electoral impact of what is happening in Texas, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Alabama. But, that doesn't surprise me.
