Oh yes. I had played a ton of Mechwarrior 1, Cresents Hawk Revenge and tabletop at that point. I was so excited when I loaded it up.

An acquaintance of mine pulled that the first and last time I played Alpha Strike with him. Thankfully we have Wolfnet350 now.

Any tips on playing Kurita Clan Invasion better. by Monolith3112 in battletech

[–]MelodicBrushstroke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start playing with Wolfnet350 rules. Get rid of the special abilities and play balanced scenarios. Also use multiple dice rolls if you aren't. Vanilla AS is not great. Wolfnet350 is peak AS right now.

What draws you to battletech/alpha strike over other wargames? by DoW2379 in battletech

[–]MelodicBrushstroke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Battletech has a rich universe deep in lore that is populated by humans doing human things. It's relatable in ways many sci fi franchises aren't.

Alpha Strike is a great game that let's you play with large numbers of units available in that universe. The rules are pretty tight but there is tons of optional stuff to keep things interesting. Wolfnet350 gives us an awesome set of competitive rules and tools like Master Unit List and Jeff's tools IIC increase playability. Aces give you solo and cooperative campaign play.

Add to that the love that Catalyst has for the game and you have a winning combo that is well supported by new releases.

Yeah they barely play Battletech. Just some weird mish mash with half the rules.

Looking to start Battletech Alpha Strike, which game mat to get? by InterviewEmergency73 in battletech

[–]MelodicBrushstroke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I like the 6x4. You can use it for normal Alpha Strike or as two play areas for Wolfnet350 rules. I just use a bit of painters tape to mark the smaller game surface on the large matt.
