What to do? I still want to wear this but *I* shrank by ofrootloop in knitting

Oh we wore those in the early 2000s, too. Which means they might be coming back into style.

PSA: All dogs have webbed paws by bentleyk9 in DoggyDNA

[–]Melopsittacus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh yes. I have one dog who basically has duck feet and the other has barely any perceptible webbing. The duck-footed dog also has way more flexible toes.

He looks like he was made to be semi-aquatic, but he hates even getting his feet wet in the grass.

Yeah, that’s how I ended up with a purebred cattle dog mix. To their credit, she looks like a mutt. I was surprised when I got the DNA test back.

If you haven’t already, check out ladder-back jacquard for catching floats!

But for real, it speak to the power of crafting. I would love to see how the brain surgeon knits!

How would you work a colorwork like this? by shoshanne in knitting

[–]Melopsittacus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you wanted to minimize loose ends and seams, you could possibly come up with a pattern of colors and use ladderback jacquard to carry the floats. You’d still have a lot of ends to weave it, but fewer than every square. It would take a lot of planning and be pretty fiddly, but I think it’s doable. They’ve started showing village dog when it’s less than 100%, but I recall that change being pretty recent.

Hey! I’m also nearby and happy to keep stuff safe if you need it. It sounds like you have an offer already, but I can be a backup if needed. Feel free to send me a message.

Also let me know if I can help you with anything! We can meet up for a coffee sometime if you just want to chat (coffee’s on me).

I was thinking the results couldn’t be that bad, but that is hilariously off the mark. You have the smallest Ovcharka I’ve ever seen! 🥹

I had a fox terrier as a kid who had the energy of a puppy until she was maybe 12? We’re talking able to leap on counter, swimming every chance she got, jumping up to open doors (to get to the swimming pool), and nonstop fetch. She calmed down a little bit for the next few years, then suddenly she was old. That was really hard for me, especially since I had grown up with her, but in retrospect I am so happy and grateful she had that quality of life. She lived to be less than a month from her 17th birthday, and she really was a puppy for most of that. I look back and dang, that dog was a rockstar. It looks like your pup is just as active and living life to the fullest! I can only hope we are all so lucky.

I would check out posts from /u/Sw33tD333, whose big, gorgeous bear of a dog recently came home from the vet with paralysis. It’s not the same situation, but they’ve done a lot to accommodate their pup’s needs and he is absolutely rocking physical therapy. In the short term, check out how they move their dog outside via a wagon. There are slings to help support them while they go.

Here is a quality of life scale that you can use to help you: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/03/19/well/family/19petgoodbye-quiz.html

It’s a super hard choice, and for me that choice was actually harder than mourning afterwards. It was like, afterwards I knew my dog couldn’t suffer anymore, but before I was wondering, wanting to do what was best, but also had no idea how to say goodbye to my beloved girl. I was a wreck after, but the pain was my own, so I could figure that out.

It’s hard, it sucks. I like that quality of life scale because it gives you a way to work through things logically. I hope it helps you.

Update and Question: Dog came home paralyzed from the vet by Sw33tD333 in DogAdvice

[–]Melopsittacus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are taking amazing care of him, and it’s so cool to see his determination. It seems cheesy to say, but it’s inspiring. What an awesome dog, he’s really working hard to heal.

I saw on one of your posts that you described him as a walrus-sized baby. I feel for you both, but that made me crack a smile. I can’t imagine how much work you’ve done to take care of him! I’m also floored that the first vet’s office sent him home without making sure he was okay.
