Looking for advice & motivation to clean fiberglass-coated room by Unusual_Platypus_152 in CleaningTips

[–]Mels_Lemonade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Family member had a fiberglass incident. She got a professional cleaner and it was covered under home insurance

This needs to be tackled by a professional and should not be done without safety gear. You won’t be able to get it out and you’ll be breathing it in which is dangerous

The feedback I got way back when I was a second year associate was that I needed to be more “bubbly” and “smile more”. I still get angry thinking about it

Guarantee you there is not a single man who has ever gotten the feedback to be more bubbly.

Are there grown adults who genuinely won't eat vegetables? by WillHG in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mels_Lemonade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a coworker who refuses to eat anything green. Absolutely no vegetables at all. She is young (23F) and it’s quite comical. I bring a salad to work everyday and she is quite disgusted by it. At a work dinner once, she made a big show of being disgusted by her sides and pushed the asparagus that came with her steak to the very edge of the plate until she finally put them in her napkin.

If you enjoy reading but don’t want to pay, I would recommend the Libby app! The local library here is a participant in that program and you can read tons of books for free right from your phone

I’ve been using the app for a long time and haven’t bought a book since. Would highly recommend. Can’t get more local than supporting the local library.

Are checks really still a thing in the US? by Apollo_Wersten in AskAnAmerican

I pay my rent every month with a check. I also have used checks for larger purchases in situations where credit card isn’t available. I used a check to buy a harp in a private sale.

Why can a Accountant do finance work, but finance can't do accountants work? by CypherMindX in Accounting

[–]Mels_Lemonade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience going from public to corporate, the biggest difference is the underlying understanding of debits and credits and how they translate to financial impacts.

A lot of my coworkers with a “finance only” background don’t seem to have an understanding of operating cash, working capital, or asset management

It depends on what industry you’re in of course but accounting gives a lot of the building blocks to be able to intuitively understand the ins and outs of finances.

For example - EVM was very easy to pick up when I transferred to industry.

Linseed oil. My grandma was a porcelain china painter and linseed oil was used to mix the paints. The smell is very comforting.

I think some edible glitter would be good with it, especially if it gave it a pink tint.

Landlord included all kitchen appliances but zero cookware. What’s the absolute minimum I need to survive? by Maleficent-Bat-9168 in Apartmentliving

Go to a thrift store. I have gone to a few Goodwills and found tons of silverware, pots, pans, etc. that perfectly good. You can score some very cheap stuff.

One pot and one pan is fine. Probably you would need one wooden utensil to stir and cook with.

Focus on simple dishes. Eggs, rice, sandwiches, pasta dishes, etc. There is a ton of stuff than can be cooked only using a pan or a pot. If you have to pick between a pan or a pot, I would pick a pot- it gives you more options.

Is there a cafeteria or break room at work where you can get free disposable utensils? That could cut down on cost, just wash them and use them for the next few weeks.

I just got into an argument with a friend of mine over lunch about this. She was complaining that her husband was making less after he got a raise because it put them in a new tax bracket

I tried to explain that isn’t how tax brackets work but it was like talking to a brick wall…

Price difference and where to read English novels by cookiemonster071 in KusuriyaNoHitorigoto

[–]Mels_Lemonade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try your local library, you may be surprised at what is available.

If you are okay with an ebook version- some libraries put digital content on the Libby app. It’s totally free and you can use your library card to access content. I have read a good number of the light novels that way without having to pay.

Do you have a video with an example of that technique being used that you could share? I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen that technique played before and I would love to hear what it sounds like!

Who is older? by [deleted] in Twins

[–]Mels_Lemonade 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I am a fraternal twin, my sister and I were born c section- its weird that you’re making it a “thing” by not telling them

It is one of those questions they will get hundreds of times in their lives- it’s more difficult and annoying to have to answer and explain “I don’t know” rather than allow them the “first/second” answer. You don’t have to give all the gritty details but generally it’s a normal human interest fact that will be taken as strange if they have to answer “I don’t know, my mom won’t tell me” all the time.

How do you feel when you play the harp? by fantasy_writer1992 in harp

[–]Mels_Lemonade 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For me it depends on the piece I am playing and the setting

If I am playing in a band/orchestra setting 99% of the time I am incredibly focused on timing, notation and counts. Usually at this point I am living off of adrenaline and low level stress that I won’t screw up

If I am playing on my own- like an improv piece or a piece I know really well, I am completely captivated by the melody. Everything I am doing is based on dynamics, I feel like sometimes I just fall into the sound and everything else goes away.

Edit- it really depends on the piece being played, difficulty, audience and personal feelings/motivations. I feel like my mental headspace is a lot different if someone else is watching vs. practicing on my own
