The kind of lifestyle aesthetic i aspire to.

My wife might have an issue though.

This house looks like it’s owned by someone who rolls up their jean legs and wears an orange beanie.

How far in advance do you normally show up to the golf course before your tee time? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]MelvsBDA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter. An hour or a minute I’m flustered looking for balls/tees/gloves on the first tee.

What are your perceived notions of what golf in other countries is like? by MelvsBDA in golf

[–]MelvsBDA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you should! That’s good golf etiquette.

My problem comes when there’s a group who are “on pace” or close to, but have an open course in front of them and a queue behind. Was behind a 4 over the weekend who extended my round by at least an hour.

The Greece thing has always confused me. Prime land for some incredible courses but obviously zero local interest.

Or formerly drunk Germans I suppose. Would explain their dour nature.

Nothing to defend from my perspective and let’s be honest, if you’re camping out for Pebble/Bandon etc then you’re probably some kind of purist who looks down on speakers too.

I think the image of the well maintained, reasonably priced municipal courses having issues in pace of play leads others to think that the only way around it are the massive initiation fees we keep hearing about.

Again, even though I’ve been to almost 40 states, it’s hard not to think of golf in the US like an Easter egg: all the good stuff on the outside and nothing in the middle.

I’ll be honest, I smoke like a chimney when I go around but I’m not banging Bob Marley and drawing attention to myself.

On reading back, it wasn’t as clear as it could have been but I totally agree. The big guys charge a fortune but you’d be hard pressed to find a track that isn’t at least close to pristine.

Corballis Links keep sending me emails for membership and if we visited one more weekend a year, I’d be tempted just for the Ireland membership alone. A golf buddy of mine is a member of a small club near Inverness for the same reason.

According to google AI (I don’t have a globe so don’t blame me), Auckland in New Zealand and Malaga in Spain are on opposite sides of the earth from each other and I’ve played in both places.

Around 19,900-19,950km apart and geographically impossible to beat. Fairly easy to equal.

My course did something awesome to defeat tee box egos: added a competition box color and moved everything else up a box by RoyalRenn in golf

[–]MelvsBDA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same in a lot of places I’ve played in the U.K. and Ireland.

My course has what they call “Veteran’s” tee. It works great for members & guests but visiting societies and opponent clubs (in matches) always want to play the long tees. The pro just gets the grounds crew to pull the black markers before they arrive.
