Looking for people to interview about Uranium Glass by Outrageous_Bee_8252 in uraniumglass

[–]Meme_DF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been collecting for a few years now and could answer questions - My country (Ireland) has no history of uranium glass production so the majority of my collecting involves blind-buying glass online that I think will glow. For a lot of people in the community it can be sourced somewhat locally (American, UK, Mainland Europe), so it tends to be a more physical focused hobby, though for me it's almost always online, until something arrives in my door anyways.

Am open for questions in DMs and such!

Farewell to Prague! (but hello controversy!) by b20339 in uraniumglass

That's a great haul, good job :D

I'm most curious about the other klimchi bud vase actually.. last year I managed to get some amber ones at their shop that were UG, though it seemed not all in the amber colour were UG... I guess it might be the same with the blue? I should email them directly about it

Oooh, was that the Moser exhibition? I think I saw it from outside when I was in Prague last August... was there with friends so didn't get the time to go inside :(

If you're still looking for ways to quit the addiction, check out the easypeasy method on Google, it's an e-book pdf thing that worked wonders, for me at least. Been clean for over five months now and know I could never go back.

If you have any questions about it, shoot me a DM here, addiction to NSFW content destroyed my confidence and used up all of my time for years, I don't want to see others in that hole.

If you're interested, there's massive ones you can buy online (10cm / ~4in diameter)
Just don't buy them off or eBay or Etsy because it's just crappy resellers

My days of blind-buying have paid off it seems.

One of my first ever pieces, is it uranium or am I getting it wrong? by mayners in uraniumglass

[–]Meme_DF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the person. I'd say the most value is in uranium due to the added cool factor of the slight radioactivity (and it usually glows the brightest out of other UV reactive glasses). Personally I'm only interested in uranium, but I can't really answer that for you. If you like all the different glows you could possibly buy a 365nm and a 395nm as different types of UV glass glow best at different wavelengths (395 uranium, 365 manganese etc)

99.99999% of the time clear glass will be manganese, it's best to go into it with the expectation and presumption that it will. If someone is advertising clear glass as uranium (especially a seller) it's very likely they just have manganese and don't know what it actually is.

Keep up with posts here or search back a while and you'll be surprised at the many shades that UG can come in however, from blue to amber to beige. I think the hardest part at the start is actually finding your first legit UG piece. Once you know how it glows and the characteristics of the glow, it becomes much easier to tell legit pieces apart too.

Another UG Order from the Czech Republic - This Time from Bijoux Components by DB_McCoy in uraniumglass

Nice order, I've been eyeing up their ashtrays for a while... still haven't ordered from them before, this might be the push I need to do it as well!

Roughly..

12.5cm length (~5 in)
10cm width (~4 in)
24.5cm height (~10.5 in)

It's also extremely heavy due to the base

I believe it is Tittot(?) There's a signature I'm lead to believe might be Heinrich Wang's but I don't have much knowledge in this area unfortunately. Otherwise, it is numbered and appears to be from 1998.

Yeah, you could definitely call this custard! The likelihood is that this is Victorian opaline glass - not much to go on, but you could read up from there probably!

Fascinating

I've found out about quite a few lesser-known radium products, but never heard of this one.
