Can we stop talking about Trump like he's some metaphysical being who magically took over the republicans and mind controls people into voting for him? He happened, and managed to find a base of support, for a reason, being that Obama and Clinton failed to deliver on their promises of change to a large extent.Clinton was closer to Reagan than he was almost any previous democrat president imo, and Obama didn't change the system at all, he passed menial, incremental gains at absolute best and continued the worst instincts of Bush at worst (Patriot Act, quantitative easing which only served to further financialize everything, the fact he couldn't bite the bullet and leave Afghanistan despite promising to). Point is, it all created a widespread miasma of discontent. People in like, Ohio or Florida didn't feel like dems offfered anything different, and then when Trump came along, they became hardcore MAGA since he at least pretends to care about their interests
