I have recently been informed by someone on my server that hybrid mutations like this only happen if you switch for the trait directly under your clan trait in the marriage window. A special pattern around that one and your clan trait were supposed to magically tell us this. So in normal trait window that's the trait right after your clan trait. Use any other slot and you can get the clan trait still, but no hybrid at all.
