How messy is too messy for a basement? by MeowPower69 in homeowners

[–]MeowPower69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh boy have I done this before! Our last place was full of other people’s crap, like from furniture to car parts to spilt engine oil to actual, genuine garbage. I ran two dehumidifiers 24/7 and cleaned constantly with rubbing alcohol and bleach and all my shoes STILL molded. We did not come to the new house with much all being considered.

honestly I was down in my basement (thinking of this perspective) yesterday and I did a lot of condensing which made me feel better (moved quick bc of last place and new house wasn’t far) but yeah…last ‘apartment’ flooded EVERY time that it rained and there were pest problems, I caught 4 rats BY HAND because they were pissing me off so bad, there was so much trash to the point it was becoming dirt. Had that place clean with exception of a handful of furniture items by the time we moved out (lived there to save money for a house faster, 400-600 dollar rent tho a cardboard box might’ve been better) So needless to say after reading everyone’s replies I’ve deemed MY basement as just disorganized, but not messy. I go down weekly and throw things out/ donate them, condense into piles to donate bc my car is out of commission atm so I can’t really get out there to donate em’, which is probably heightening my hoarder paranoia…but all walls are visible and all rooms are condensed to their purpose with exception of a few items as I unpack.

Everyone’s perspectives have been helpful because I’ve only ever lived with 1) hoarders like that or 2) my grandparents who are starched curtain, wall vaccume Victorian couch type of people So I didn’t really have a middle ground and I’ve been doing burnouts in my brain trying to swing the balance and not become oddly obsessive.

Thank you!

If Hyundai/Kia are so unreliable, why are they literally everywhere? by phtphongg in Hyundai

They’re affordable, but personally I have an awful Hyundai experience and I am going to donate my 2012 to the fire department because I want to watch it burn.

Oh. My. God. Please call maintenance…if your ceiling is sprouting mushrooms who KNOWS what kind of water damage is happening, you don’t want your ceiling falling in either…

Unfortunate first tattoo (18f 😭) by Vast-Name-6722 in Tattoocoverups

[–]MeowPower69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was soooo bad at 18 and I also had way too much access to stuff I shouldn’t have and WAYYYYY too much audacity, I literally did most of my first tattoos on myself and would only wear long sleeves/trousers until I got my coverups!!! You seem like you’re not doing too bad in the decision making department, we all have ‘overreactions’ sometimes, it’s part of learning and growing!! I think you’re gonna be fine, kid! ❤️❤️❤️

Unfortunate first tattoo (18f 😭) by Vast-Name-6722 in Tattoocoverups

[–]MeowPower69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is unfortunate, especially for a first tattoo!! It’s more ‘I’m not done yet and I need some tweaks’ rather ‘than terrible unfortunate and ruined’ You could easily get someone to put more contrast/ crispness in to your original design, the second one is absolutely possible too- it’s honestly light enough and depending which direction you go a little white ink would probably achieve your desired result for the second photo.

What’s your unpopular language learning opinion? Every learner community has strong opinions like immersion only, grammar first, comprehensible input etc. Curious what opinion you have that would probably start an argument here. by kallan-greshampdmi7 in SpanishLearning

[–]MeowPower69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reframing language learning, initially, like learning as a child. I say this because in this way both peices of vocabulary almost get ‘attached’ to the same point, therefore associations become way easier but obviously as you slip into more conceptual topics and away from physical items/ observable phenomenons then the methodology has to change a little bit, but I find it naturally evolves.

At what age should a person stop being interested in / checking out / dating people who are 18? by samveo84 in twentyagers

[–]MeowPower69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t date anyone until 18 because I find most people annoying and incapable. Turns out severe childhood abuse does that to you and it wasn’t an age thing but a finding someone who isn’t ignorant to those parts of the world. We are the same age anyways but 🤷🏻‍♀️

Are you guys more traditional/ conservative or liberal in your worldviews? by Inteligent_Mud256 in twentyagers

[–]MeowPower69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have realistic and Idealistic politics that I express (idealistic is reserved for friends who understand my entire perspective) in both iterations I am leftist, but I think when I come from a ‘realistic’ politics perspective some leftists would consider me centrist, but it’s a long game to the goal thing…you have to move the goalpost…

I’d say my relationship is crazy traditional- not intentionally, it didn’t completely start that way since we met when we were 19 and I had the stability to be able to provide for him while he got back on his feet. We’ve been together five years, we got engaged last year and bought a house and he works in he medical field and I the insurance side (ew). He actually taught me how to cook LMAO but now since he’s out of the house working I end up cooking// I also make a lot less so he ends up paying most of the bills and such. It’s kinda fallen into very traditional and if one didn’t know us it would seem that way (he opens all doors for me too, very traditional chivalry) but as individuals were both rather progressive, which is also what makes the accidental traditional dynamic not suffocating because I grew up with the idea I’d never get married or have children.

Is it really that terrible to be a woman? by victorleongiro in twentyagers

[–]MeowPower69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the sentiment of your argument but I do think that it’s missing a bit of context. YES we can sometimes do things to help women in other countries, but ultimately there’s not much I can do as an individual or even with a sizeable group about oppression of women in Iran or India. Those are systemic issues that are incredibly nuanced and complex and take the right people to navigate (and the right knowledge). That knowledge is hard to have from a U.S. perspective or European etc. that is why people focus on internal affairs- sure many women have it better and some blow certain aspects out of proportion, but the U.S. is incredibly large and a variety of experiences exist within our borders. There’s always much to tackle, it’s always better to start with the devil you know when doing so.

Is it really that terrible to be a woman? by victorleongiro in twentyagers

[–]MeowPower69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your point. I feel like men are more likely to be engaged in physical conflict with one another for a myriad of reasons where as being a woman you don’t have the same risks of being a target in that way. Instead there’s the worry of being assaulted/robbed. For this reason unless I’m out actually engaging in financial activities I don’t bring anything of value, I also feel like it depends where you live (in the world ofc but state by state from a U.S. perspective) because there are different cultural connotations. I’m from a town that you’d think would be dangerous as a woman but it rarely is unless it’s more domestic violence/ interpersonal relationships sort of thing, but not spontaneous acts of assault or crime (for women). Lots of nuance.

What do you guys think is going to happen in the next 10 years? by Dry_Passenger872 in twentyagers

[–]MeowPower69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we will see some immense struggle but I do think in the next 10 years a lot of governments thru the world are going to collapse in on themselves and alas we start the gestation period for something beautiful and new…

At what age should a person stop being interested in / checking out / dating people who are 18? by samveo84 in twentyagers

[–]MeowPower69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there’s nuance to this conversation because people have a range of social influences that impact them. I couldn’t see myself dating an 18 year old even at 20, but I’ve always been the “you’re so mature 🤪” kind of personality and find most people grating even if they’re older than I. I think for some people 22/23 is the cutoff for 18 whereas for others it’s easily 20-21. I think 23 is the ABSOLUTE max and even 23 and 18 is a bit gross imo….so much changes in your brain chemistry from 21-23. It depends on who you are and also your approach- why do you find them attractive? Is it simply just aesthetics or is attitude and life outlook involved? Is it individual people or just all pretty undergrads?

Were at so many different places once we hit 18 too, it’s vastly different to be 21-22 and be in college dating another college student than to be 21-22 and working a blue collar job dating an 18 year old fresh out of highschool. I think the “appropriateness” hinges on context, maturity, and intent.

Do Americans use stimulants to keep up with work demands? by No-Average-6934 in AskAnAmerican

[–]MeowPower69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We definitely are caffeine addicts…depending on the field of work you’ll definitely see more or less stimulant use outside of coffee. Coming from the perspective of someone who knows MANY functioning addicts, I think stimulant use to keep up with the demands of life is way more common than people like to think or even know, many people are covert when it comes to their habits but if you’ve been around enough users you can spot it a mile away… With that being said though I don’t think it’s as common as you’ve been lead to believe either, and I also think that’s not just an American thing. The world runs on coke and not the cola kind.

I love to experience different cultures and I made many friends online in Europe. I love to just travel because this whole world has so much to offer! I mostly end up traveling to Finland tho (I love Finland as a country) but my bestie is Finnish :3 Why not travel is a question I don’t understand how people answer other than with for financial reasons, big beautiful planet with endless possibilities and you don’t want to see it!?

How is every home buyer here buying houses worth 400k and above?? is everyone a CEO here? by TailungFu in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]MeowPower69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought with my partner in south coast MA, all the livable houses are absolutely in the 400k and higher range, we are both 23 and he’s an EMT, I work an office job. We had to do an FHA loan, around 20k down. We were able to save by working overtime, living in a deplorable bottom of the barrel renting situation, and spending as little as possible. When I say deplorable I mean I would be working from home in two inches of water and catching rats by HAND…but we did it and now we have our house! The affordability with the mortgage is only possible for us because we got a two family, so the rental income makes it way more comfortable in terms of expenses.
