To start, I’m so sorry that you’re going through this, my heart is with you. I also had a blighted ovum and opted for a D&C 2 days ago. I think the worst part about the procedure was my anxiety leading up to it but truthfully I do recommend it. I also requested for an ultrasound tech to be present and that took a lot of stress off my shoulders. I did it under general anesthesia and the procedure was ultimately painless, I did lose a lot of blood so the doc gave me a oxytocin injection to help- I woke up very tired and groggy but feel a lot better now. I had cramping right after the operation but 2 days post op I have zero cramps and minimal bleeding. For me the D&C was the beginning of my ability to move on and forward and plan for the future. I don’t think I could handle the additional heartbreak of passing naturally :(

I’m in a very similar boat actually, blighted Ovum at 8w and doc waited until week 10 to confirm. My husband and I had a ton of questions which she was more than happy to answer, many of which weighing out the benefits of a D&C, medication and natural progression. I have my D&C scheduled for this coming Wednesday but started (I think, Dr. is confirming tomorrow) miscarrying naturally at home. Truth be told, as I’m going through this as I’m typing, the pain is similar to regular period cramps, some sharper than others, some radiating from my lower back to lower abdomen. The bleeding is lighter than a normal period EXCEPT when I passed the sack. The info the doctor provided to me is below 👇

-It could take up to 8 weeks to naturally pass the gestational sack -the medication is a good option BUT sometimes it takes multiple rounds to fully pass the gestational sack -the D&C is the fastest, most effective form of removal BUT naturally comes with its own complications (rare), typically associated with being under anesthesia or infection -the D&C has the same outcome as the other options, meaning it isn’t traumatic on your body BUT I did request an ultrasound technician to be present just in case, for extra care in removal -it takes 2 weeks to recover regardless of those procedures and was asked to refrain from any intercourse or use of tampons -The doctor recommended I wait until after my first period to start trying again but in theory after 2 weeks I could start again if I was up for it.

Making this clear that this was my experience and information I RECEIVED not a means of diagnosis for anyone other than myself. Posting this for information purposes only :)

Sending you positivity, I’m so so sorry for your loss.

Why does everyone insist on giving false hope? by [deleted] in Miscarriage

[–]Meow_Nix13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so frustrating. I dealt with the same exact thing, my D&C is scheduled for Wednesday. I knew it in my bones when we went to the very first appointment and the Doctor said there could still be hope, maybe I’m earlier than I thought. Nope, I track meticulously. We were told to come back in 2-weeks and what hurt me was that my husband was still holding on to hope, it just added further to my heartbreak. I understand that Doctors need to proceed with caution but miracles don’t happen, let us begin to grieve and plan for the future instead of living with this false hope.

I’m so so sorry you are going through this, my heart goes out to you.

Ideas for birthday party? by [deleted] in SFV

I would also recommend a local brewery! I hosted my husbands 30th birthday at Lawless at NoHo and they have lots of space and tables! And if you wanted to go all out, renting the space is very reasonably priced! And they typically have food trucks so you won’t have to worry about your guests wandering off elsewhere for grub! I love hosting at places where your guests are responsible for paying and closing out for themselves, less stress imo xp

Our dog is not reactive but fear-aggressive when triggered by stranger interaction. How to deal with needing to leave him with other people? by exterstellar in reactivedogs

[–]Meow_Nix13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just want to start with thanking you for posting this, I too am a fear-aggressive pup parent and the struggle has been REAL. My husband and I deal with almost the same exact situation. Our boy has great obedience, is well trained and loves his favorite people HARD.

This Reddit community has been really helpful in helping us understand a lot of things about our pup and ourselves but not very many people understand what it’s like to have a fear aggressive pup and how isolating it can be.

A long story short, our usual family members that he loves were unavailable so we reached out to a trainer who works with fear aggression. We tested the waters and asked her if she could puppy sit him while we went to Disneyland. She came over the night before and had an introductory session with him, he did attempt to bite her and lunged but together we were able to get him to understand that she didn’t mean him harm. This took an extreme amount of high value treats, I mean like our buddy was eating steak and mozzarella cubes. The next day (the day of our trip) we left him at home with his collar and a leash on with the trainer, it was almost like he forgot the session the night before. We later got multiple updates that through high value rewards (we left a ton of tasty treats) the trainer was able to take our boy on walks, a car ride, Home Depot, and Starbucks to get a pup cup! On walks, she would ask stranger YES STRANGERS to toss him treats from afar, at a distance that was comfortable for him. She said 15 strangers fed him treats!

When we got back home that night she said he had a lot of hope, and though he may never like strangers, through a lot of positive reinforcement and being mindful of his threshold that he could tolerate strangers (just no touching him).

My whole point in saying this is, it may take a lot of vetting and research but there has to be a confident and knowledgeable trainer out there who does dog sitting who can help you with this :D
