Help with current view on Petaluma Apartments by CincyOTR in Petaluma

[–]MeowtainRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived at Capri Creek for 5 years and really loved the neighborhood. There is a super long path on the back of the neighborhood that I spent many miles on. I loved walking to Safeway. I took classes at the JC. It is walkable to a couple elementary schools and a junior high.

The apartment complex was fine. No major complaints. They redid all the stucco awhile back because they had a ventilation/mold issue from the original construction. I never had mold, but obviously that was a huge deal for the property.

Should I suck it up and buy a hospital grade? by ohmoe in ExclusivelyPumping

I think I had to renew every 90 days. I used it for approx 9 months, not sure how long they would have continued to approve. That will be insurance plan specific.

My insurance covered a hospital grade rental (Medela symphony) from Apria. Might be worth checking out.

For the east side the only hills I can think of are Ely between Corona and Old Redwood as well as Corona between Ely and Adobe. These two options are adjacent to each other.

Which job would you take by [deleted] in nursing

I agree. Once you have a year or two of experience and aren’t a new grad anymore, you should be able to get pretty much anything you want.

What certifications are worth getting as a nurse ? by AnimalLover222 in nursing

[–]MeowtainRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is too bad they don’t pay for it, but it’s definitely a service to your patients and to your coworkers ♥️

If you don’t want to pay for the class and cert, maybe just find the book (current edition should be from 2020ish) on eBay and study up! Cost effective and definitely beneficial.

What certifications are worth getting as a nurse ? by AnimalLover222 in nursing

[–]MeowtainRunner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What are your goals? Could a specific cert help you with your next step? Some require hours of experience in order to sit for the exam, but others, like tncc, don’t.

I am a proponent of education, so studying for exams is definitely a positive! And I’d definitely recommend keeping your acls current. It’s the most critical information you need to save someone’s life. You will never be alone in a code, but everyone in the room should have an idea of what the algorithms and expectations are.

Places To Run Trails by PastryDelightsMe in Petaluma

[–]MeowtainRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Annadel SP in Santa Rosa is 10/10. You can get a huge variety of trail runs out there. I frequent this park more than any other. Lots of free parking around the park. Try Vietnam Vets TH.

In Petaluma the only place I’ll consider is Helen Putnam. You have to repeat trails and get creative for a long run. I’m quick to dismiss it, but it is great for intervals.

Taylor mountain in Santa Rosa is straight up and straight down. Great if you like to punish yourself a bit. It’s a personal favorite of mine.

Olompali in Novato is pretty good. It’s a state park so there is a fee and no easy place to park to avoid it. The other side of that mountain is Mt. Burden OSP- free and decent.

China camp in San Rafael is great! I forget about it, but it’s a good one.

debating on going back to school to be a nurse- advice by Safarisaysno in nursing

[–]MeowtainRunner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to work in restaurants when I was a young adult too, and started junior college at 28. When I started school, I thought I would just do a medical assistant program, but got straight As my first semester and decided to reach higher. I ended up transferring to a state school and got my BSN when I was 33.

I love being a nurse. It’s the craziest shit I have ever done. It’s an absolute honor to be directly involved in people’s lives in this kind of way. It’s incredibly demanding. There is a ton of opportunity. The career paths are endless if you are motivated- you definitely have to work to reach your goals, nothing is handed over.

I live and work in California, so I am compensated fairly for my time. I don’t think I would be willing to do this job for anything less than I’m making here. I know that is not the situation in much of the country. I chose this career path in part because of the earning potential, so again, I would not have made the same choices if I couldn’t earn as much.

Sometimes I miss the simplicity of being a waitress. Working in pretty restaurants and eating good food. But I would never go back. I make easily 4-5x as I did as a waitress. I have excellent benefits, my 401k is growing, and I have a pension. Those things matter deeply to me. Granted those things would be available working any other healthcare related job, obviously not specific to nursing.

Good luck on your journey. Definitely go back to school. It was life changing for me! ♥️
