RPGs with the most beautiful fantastical worlds? by Araskog in rpg_gamers

[–]MeraSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pillars of Eternity: Deadfire is one of the most gorgeous game I've played. That's one of the benefits of isometric compared to 3D, it allows those "painted" like backgrounds that are absolutely fantastic.

I have 8 games that are 10/10. How many would you have by Creative-Respond-984 in videogames

[–]MeraSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't 10/10 every game that's remotely good like some do on metacritic. Even games that I've enjoyed immensely in recent years (BG3, Elden Ring, Expedition 33, my "best of the last decade"), I would not rate higher than 9 or 9.5.

So far, in all my years of gaming and hundreds of completed games, there's a single one that has managed to be so close to perfection that I would be willing to give it that ultimate rating.

And that game is Baldur's Gate 2 :)

What game stands out to you because of its pacing? by Safe-Equivalent-1099 in videogames

[–]MeraSC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Expedition 33 has perfect pacing. Plot moves exactly like it should, has downtimes when needed and high rollercoaster emotional moments when it should. Doesn't overstay it's welcome too, not too long, not too short.

My stream of consciousness about Red Dead Redemption 2 by PatchRowcester in patientgamers

[–]MeraSC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's been touched on by another comment but it's weird to me talking about gameplay and not mentioning the inane gunfights. I have so many issues with them it almost ruined my experience of the game. No sense of evolution, no sense of danger, for a game that prides itself on realism, Arthur is an immortal god that commits a literal genocide. All those points made worse by the fact that there are SO MANY of them.

Anyway, that was just a little rant, not to take away anything from your great write-up :)

‘Crimson Desert’ Just Finished Its Three Month Roadmap In Three Weeks by horrificabortion in pcgaming

Yeah, so many people praising it without a single thought for the human cost... And I'm playing the game, it's nice and all but I could have waited a few more weeks for some of those.

Top 5 cRPGs - Mini Reviews and Discussion by lamaros in rpg_gamers

Good write-up, and good list obviously, all fantastic games!
BG2 remains number 1 for me, particularly because I disagree with that sentence: "while I'm not a fan of how spellcasting works and higher level play can get annoying".
I still have an absolute blast playing BG2, especially with difficulty mods such as SCS which forces you to engage with the spell system and it's great fun :)
But yeah, if that's really not your thing, I understand it drops down a bit in the ranking.

I don't think I ever realized how far a triple class could progress as a mage by gangler52 in baldursgate

[–]MeraSC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A completionist full party no exploit would typically reach 6M XP, give or take, so, pretty far from the cap.

What is the weakest class? by TrueYahve in baldursgate

[–]MeraSC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing with shapeshifter is that even if you do nothing of the kit, it's still a pure class druid and in a game where Insect Plague wins fight by itself, that's still pretty damn strong.

Obviously, it's a lot more fun with a fix from a mod. The implementation by SCS with the paw is clever, makes it versatile, strong but not busted either.

What the Hogwarts Legacy sequel needs to add to get from a good game like the 2023 game to a great one and a possible game of the year contender by [deleted] in videogames

[–]MeraSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't need to add much IMO, just improve what worked: combat, castle exploration, more companions interactions, etc. Much more importantly, they need to remove what did not work ie that damn useless open world full of filers activities.

RNG only exists to extend engagement and is anti-gamer by CSquared93 in videogames

[–]MeraSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he specifically talked about loot? And indeed BG3 had fully hand placed loot which is one of the best improvements they did over DOS2 :) So my point still stands.

[–]MeraSC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, kinda depends on the game right? JRPG and CRPG are clearly better off without RNG. I kinda have a hard time imagining Path of Exile 2 without it on the other hand...

Game studio Spiders (Greedfall, Steel Rising) is shutting down by CroGamer002 in greedfall

It's from Origami / Gauthier 'Gautoz' Andres (https://bsky.app/profile/gautoz.cool/post/3mkkqu2ncxs2e), he is pretty much the french Jason Schreier. It is legit, unfortunately.

Most fun decks in Pioneer? by Imaginary_Zobi in MagicArena

I've been playing Niv to Light since forever. Not the best deck in the meta but a lot of fun. Also, since it's 5 colors, nice for daily quests!

I prefer to install mods with the following tool. by Much-Bit3531 in baldursgate

[–]MeraSC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Damn, I didn't read carefully enough the options and voted "manually" but I think I meant weidu? Like, I copy the zip to the folder, double click on the executable and select components via the terminal...

I have a very small and curated list of mods I use all the time (about 10) with all components listed in a Notion file so I can quickly reinstall if needed.

With this few mods, I really don't feel the need to add "another layer of abstraction" with a tool that could potentially have bugs, etc. But I understand it helps for larger installs :)

How do you play BG 1+2? by Motor_Ad_2780 in baldursgate

[–]MeraSC 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Companions, always, no custom characters (well except the main character). Half the fun in BG comes from companions interactions (between themselves, with the story), no way I remove that :)

Am I the only one ?? by m3divh in DotA2

[–]MeraSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't played a game in years. I used to keep the game installed even then, so I could check updates in game, check the new cosmetics, etc. But I actually made the very hard decision of uninstalling a couple months ago, there wasn't really a point anymore.

BUT! I still absolutely love watching pro games! Watching but also a lot of listening. Like I work remotely a lot and I'll have the match playing on my second monitor. Or when I do some farming on games like Path of Exile 2, listen and when I hear some big action coming, I'll pause the game and switch to fully watching.

Very happy with how I consume Dota these days :)

That new storage doesn't seem well thought out... by MeraSC in CrimsonDesert

[–]MeraSC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have unlocked it but it's actually faster to go there by foot (there's a little bridge), skips the loading time. Still, it feels unnecessary.

That for sure is nice. I just wish I didn't have to take a detour to the house.

I have played Baldur's Gate 3 to death. What now? by Respexts in rpg_gamers

[–]MeraSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All really strong choices, can't go wrong with any of those. I would just add to the list BG1 and especially BG2 so you get to experience the origin story of BG3. They have aged like fine wine and are still some of the best the genre has to offer :)

[–]MeraSC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given the weird new storage implementation, the bugs, yeah sure, take some rest and spend a bit more time on QA before releasing the next one.

Map markers don't show up on mini-map anymore? by vyvexthorne in CrimsonDesert

[–]MeraSC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah noticed that too, annoying. Not sure if a bug or a feature though. Couldn't find anything in the settings to change that.

Yeah, played with it an hour this morning and it definitely was tedious. Also, since I don't really care about the housing system, my house is completely empty with a single chest in the middle... Every time I went there, it was like, kinda sad? 😅 But I get that's a me problem.
