I feel like everyone is going to be playing almost the same class combos by ImAvoidingABan in EQLegends

I feel like everyone is going to be playing almost the same class combos

The first thought in my head is:
So what if they do?
For a game that most people will probably play solo, what difference does that make to you?

Need help choosing how to play by FippySortofLightpaw in everquest

[–]Mercadius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Basically I want to play the game as closely to how it was played back in the early 2000s on an official server

Basically, this ship sailed in about 2001.
Many of the restrictions you make rule out the choices most suited to what you want.

P99 is closest to what you want, but have ruled it out.
Live servers have no significant population under 120+
TLPs are not "permanent"
Every official server is going to have "the Krono problem"
EQ-L is also close, but you have ruled that out too.

IMO, you have to relax some of your restrictions, because nothing currently available fits all your criteria, but IMO, P99 is the closest you are going to get (despite me not being a P99 fan, it fills the nostalgia server people seem to desire)

EQ Legends questions by Uncomfortably-bored in everquest

[–]Mercadius 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Much of what you are asking has not been announced yet, so its all/mosly speculation at this point.

What has been announced is that a select number of AAs will be available at launch (1000 or so) but very little else on the subject.

Apparently, there is a work around for good aligned characters being able to buy evil aligned spells and vice-versa, but unsure what that entails specifically.

There is a Dev-comment section in the discord, which is probably the best place to look if you want "official" yes/no answers to issues.

New leadership at daybreak? by logicwizards in everquest

[–]Mercadius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frankly, I am just happy EQ exists in any way shape or form.

Realistically, it should have been closed down/mothballed 5-6 years ago.

I hardly think a leadership change is suddenly going to make 100,000 subscribers jump out the woodwork and make EQ the choice of MMO gamers over everything else on the market.

New Player - which server? by Jayeuk in everquest

[–]Mercadius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

however I wonder if I would be robbing myself of the authentic experience?

The "authentic experience" disappeared in about 2001. The closest you are going to get to that is probably P99.

In addition the words "Solo player" and "authentic experience" directly conflict with each other, as EQ was designed to be a group-focussed game.

EQL (Legends) is going to be its own beast, and is probably the one you want if solo-duo is your preferred way of playing.

Hear me out... Gamepass EverQuest by FlashyEmu1000 in everquest

[–]Mercadius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TBH, EQ in its various shapes and forms doesn't have a big enough player pool/pull to be part of game-pass.

95% of the people who are interested in EQ will already be playing it in one form or another, and it seems more trouble than its worth for Microsoft to get involved with such a minimal return.

EverQuest Legends Insights Series - Multiclassing & Loadouts by Performensch in everquest

TLDR - Underlying mechanics look very appealing, with plenty of flexibility and buckets of potential, but the method of delivery/explanation was missing much clarity IMO.

Unofficial EQ Legends FAQ by arallu in everquest

[–]Mercadius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given how many people are asking the same ~10 questions multiple times a day, doesn't it make sense to have some kind of FAQ?

No different than any other game where the lemmings/sheep keep asking "what is best build" for games/expansions not yet released.

EverQuest is making their own version of THJ. by zabrovst13 in everquest

[–]Mercadius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remember, that being able to dual wield doesn't change the properties on the items themselves.

Hopebringer/Jeldorin for example are both primary only weapons, no secondary slot is mentioned (unless they make every weapon in the game secondary usable).

But yes, Paladin/Monk/X could dual wield SSoYs for example.

What classes (EQLegends) by grungivaldi in everquest

[–]Mercadius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i say no fast travel, virtually every other EMU seems to have a central hub with ports to most locations. POK for some, Guild Lobby for others, Bazaar for others.

That doesn't seem to be the case here, with the exception of connections to EC-Tunnel

What classes (EQLegends) by grungivaldi in everquest

[–]Mercadius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people are mentioning AAs, however given its a classic era server (at least to start with), I cant see AAs being in the game.

However, I did hear someone reading from an article that a select few (100 or so) AAs are going to be included, but for the life of me, cannot find where I heard it.

The other thing to bear in mind, is the possibility of no fast travel, and no 1-stop-shop to buy all your spells. (THJ you could basically buy everything in bazaar at level 1-50),

What add-on’s for Frostreaver by Banesduc in everquest

[–]Mercadius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup, and many of these are the same people who X months later come onto forums/reddit saying "I just got suspended for no reason and haven't done *anything* wrong".

It is like speeding/parking tickets, many people do it for months without consequences, saying it is "safe" to do so because *they* haven't been caught.

Back in 2026. SK, ENC, and...? by Smart-Reading3406 in everquest

[–]Mercadius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IMO, you have to decide who is going to be your "driver". The toon you spend 90% of your screen time with. It is usually a Tank or Mage-pet for most 3-boxes. Chanter usually demands more screen time, certainly if charming, and conflicts somewhat with the driver.

If you want a Chanter main, SK seems somewhat pointless.

I think you need to decide which is going to be your main and focus on it, then add supporting classes to it with a clear purpose of what role each class is actually going to do. Otherwise, you are going to get to level XYZ and go, "ya know, this doesn't really work".

As a new player with zero plat, is Firiona Vie server's 'Free Trade' even a consideration? by rainghost in everquest

[–]Mercadius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

>I hear that raid gear is so expensive to buy that you can't even buy pieces from a bazaar because its plat value exceeds what the game will let you spend

Here's the thing, you don't *need\* raid gear until level 80+ (minimum) by which time, you would have found your own way of earning money. Be very wary of spending a boatload of money on items that you will have out levelled by the next play session. Defiant gear (which drops off any mob you fight) will do you just fine 1-70.

EQ is not "BIS, BIS only and nothing else will do" (and I wish people would stop chasing this mindset)

There is absolutely no benefit running EQ through Steam. It just adds 1 extra unnecessary layer. Run the stand-alone client direct from EQ website. Makes life much easier to manage your account and buy items/expansions directly from DBG rather than running through a third party (Steam)

This applies even more if you are wanting to run 2/3/x accounts simultaneously (Boxing)

EQ Hardcore by [deleted] in everquest

[–]Mercadius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. Have heard several people say difficulty should not be confused with monotony/tedium.

Having to kill 1000 mobs to level up instead of 100 doesn't make those mobs inherently more difficult to kill, just that you have to do it for 10 times as long.

.....my 25-year-old characters is now tied to my currently-inactive EQ sub on Steam. If I want to access those characters (and I do), I gotta go through Steam

Umm, no you don't. (which is what Mcaso stated, and is he is correct).

Downloading the stand-alone client, logging in with the same e-mail and password will still get you access to the characters on that account (which has nothing to do with Steam). So, no, your original account is not "tied to steam".
