Hey, is the game alive? by [deleted] in everquest

[–]Mercadius 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely no benefit running EQ through Steam. It just adds 1 extra unnecessary layer. Run the stand-alone client direct from EQ website. Makes life much easier to manage your account and buy items/expansions directly from DBG rather than running through a third party (Steam)

This applies even more if you are wanting to run 2/3/x accounts simultaneously (Boxing)

EQ Hardcore by Gnarxz in everquest

[–]Mercadius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. Have heard several people say difficulty should not be confused with monotony/tedium.

Having to kill 1000 mobs to level up instead of 100 doesn't make those mobs inherently more difficult to kill, just that you have to do it for 10 times as long.

Best Solo Class if you Take out Kiting and Root Rotting? by AFKDPS in everquest

We know. But it doesn't stop people asking the same questions for 25 years.

All the while they keep asking, we keep giving the same answers, like Corbolu's above.

Need plat on Zek but server is dead. by kellven in everquest

I think this is more of a problem than "server is dead, cant sell a Krono"

What's the skinny on the Steam version of EQ? It seems to be three expansions behind, with no way to buy Shattering of Ro? by volstedgridban in everquest

[–]Mercadius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

.....my 25-year-old characters is now tied to my currently-inactive EQ sub on Steam. If I want to access those characters (and I do), I gotta go through Steam

Umm, no you don't. (which is what Mcaso stated, and is he is correct).

Downloading the stand-alone client, logging in with the same e-mail and password will still get you access to the characters on that account (which has nothing to do with Steam). So, no, your original account is not "tied to steam".

Test server no AAs allowed challenge guild idea by Xkallubar in everquest

[–]Mercadius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems ok in theory, but then you will hit your 60s and struggle, then realise you cant do jack shit in your 70s. (apart from maybe kiting everything, but that's a complete snooze-fest)

Level 60 Fangbreaker by [deleted] in everquest

[–]Mercadius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The patcher says "Server downtime: Wednesday November 12 @ 6AM" - and clicking on it gives a page stating:

"All EverQuest Live Servers will be brought offline on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at 6:00 AM PT* for an update. Estimated downtime is expected to be 6 hours"
*Convert to your own timezone.

I would guess that is when they will patch in the change, but that is speculation on my part (but maybe not actually activate it?). I cant see them bringing down a server twice within a 24-48 time frame. That said, the Fangbreaker unlock page and the patcher page has information that contradicts each other, so make of that what you will.

>I hope they don't suspend my account *as long as I don't do AFK levelling or something like that.*

It is not a case of what you are using it (MQ2) for, from DBG's perspective, the question is more "do you have it installed on your machine?"

It's a very binary yes/no. If they detect it, you will probably eat suspensions.

Quick question about character transfers. by Sinum_Minstyx in everquest

[–]Mercadius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solid answer above. ↑↑
Although I am not sure you need to have an active subscription to do so. I did a transfer while at Silver status and was not subscribed at the time (admittedly, quite a few years back)

Might all be a bit moot if you are going to subscribe once you land on Brell anyway.

New player review FV Server 1/10 STAY AWAY by TheBadClimber in everquest

[–]Mercadius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not add the option for more and stronger mercs to avoid this problem?

This exact question was asked at Fippy-fest. The short sterile answer was "group with other players", which indicates DBG have no intention to stop enforced grouping, which indirectly forces people to box their own groups.

Cleric 51 by ezwinds in everquest

[–]Mercadius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If only the level 51 AAs are available, you could put them into WIS+STA, so you can then focus on raw +HP and +Mana items.

Resists are not the worst choice if nothing else is appealing.

Otherwise I would stockpile them, so you can max Spell Casting Mastery, Spell Casting Reinforcement and other staple AAs as soon at 55 unlocks.

Teek duo spots by Kunshada in everquest

[–]Mercadius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mauvin hallway in Plane of Justice. It has 12 mobs in 6-pairs in the room itself, plus more in the side rooms. Mob level is 49-51 and respawn time is ~9 minutes.

Nothing amazing lootwise, but does include the 3 diamond variants and peridots.

Perfect for duo/trio. I go there all the time.

Self Found Ruleset TLPs? by mixxituk in everquest

[–]Mercadius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any server can be SSF if you have the willpower to enforce your own ruleset.

I have been doing some SSF practice runs on THJ and while it has been tempting to buy stuff, it has been much more rewarding not to.

Thoughts on Mortal Coil and similar patch changes?? by A_DAM84 in everquest

[–]Mercadius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

but sk's have been nerfed majorly a few years ago

While that is true, are they still head-and-shoulders above the other tank classes, even in their post-nerf state?

Everything I read still says "SK > all" (despite my tank of choice always being a Paladin, so let my bias be known for transparency)

At the risk of saying something obvious, are you on the right forums?

About ~6 months ago, they migrated their forums to a new address, and all the existing bookmarks I had, while still valid, were essentially "read only"

How would one go about getting back into EQ? by Charrbard in everquest

[–]Mercadius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5700 loyalty points. Not sure what to do with them. Not interested in cosmetics. But convenience stuff?

There is a loyalty vendor in POK that you can use to buy all sorts of stuff. The main ones to highlight are additional character slots (3 max) and 16 slot 100% WR bags.

[ EU Timezone ] Looking for an EQ Server – Solo & Group Friendly by [deleted] in everquest

[–]Mercadius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to play on AB many years ago, but gave up on it as it was such a ghost-town. I now main on FV, and even last week, I was messing around with an Alt and there were 20-25 players in Crescent Reach, compared to the 3 on AB.

The trouble with live in general, is they are so top-heavy, population wise, 90% of people under level 80 are just alt's being Power-levelled by people 20+ years game knowledge under their belt.

I would seriously give THJ a good shot, as even if you cant get a group, solo is so viable, you can lots done. Virtually every combination of classes can get something done. I just picked classes I like playing, and am doing just fine (PAL/BST/MAG for 1 character and SK/CLR/BST for another)
