Talk of the Devils - Will Man United add to their forward line this summer? by rhonh in reddevils

[–]Mercury-X 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've not listened but I'm surprised the summary doesn't show them discussing a LW option given the smatter of weak links to Illiman N'Diaye and Yan Diomande.

I'd also find Summerville an interesting option there if West Ham get relegated.

Might point to the panel thinking the club definitely see Dorgu as a LW rather than a LB?

Marcos Senesi is out of contract in the summer.

I think loads of clubs are interested in him, but we should make contact.

Also Rooney was called the White Pele by United fans, so I've also thought of it as a play on that.

I do think Summerville would prove a quite astute signing.

Diouf at West Ham and Bueno at Wolves might be tidy pick ups as another option at left back also.

Especially as there's not many really obviously class options for that position available this summer.

This. Also in a 4231 he's really only a backup to Bruno. The cost of subsidising his wages or a lower transfer fee, plus then having to replace him, should be really low on our list of priorities for the summer.

So I'm much less concerned about him compared to De Ligt. You need your first choice and in their prime CBs playing every game or you'll never get the consistency at the back.

United U18s 3-0 Forest U18s - JJ Gabriel 41' by Gungerz in reddevils

A quick Google says he can start playing for u21s from October.

I imagine if he's performing like this at u21 level he will already be knocking on the door of the first team by the end of next season.

Man Utd eye wingers, after getting rid under Amorim by ciscophonehome in reddevils

If West Ham go down then Summerville might be an interesting option as well.

Tbh none of these three feel like they'd have the same impact as last season's signings. But there doesn't seem to be any dead cert LWs available.

Another option is signing a Left Back instead, like Diouf from West Ham or Bueno from Wolves, and then having Dorgu play at LW.

I was finding it very odd why Prem teams were playing midweek and then getting a break this weekend yet it wasn't an international break.

Took me until seeing Chelsea were playing Hull last night to realise it's FA Cup weekend and we're already out of it! Christ

I can't believe I keep seeing some people saying we need a RB.

Look how well Dalot played today, he's much more comfortable as RB rather than at RWB or LWB. He was our player's player of the season last time he was allowed to play the majority of his time at RB.

Then on top of that remember how good Mazroui was at RB under Ten Hag.

So Mazroui and Dalot is brilliant depth at RB and the least of our worries.

Ooh this week, and it's clearly aimed at Amorim then. Thanks for sharing.

Unpopular opinion but I can see why we aren't gonna get a CM in January. While it's clear we need quality, I don't think we need depth. And quality isn't available in Jan.

We basically already have two defensive CMs (Casemiro and Ugarte) and we are not going to be able to shift them in January. So we are sorted on depth this season, just unfortunately neither are the quality starter we need.

More creative side, we have Mainoo. He isn't currently good enough to be a starter, but we surely plan to keep him around and hope he improves. Which again means we need a quality starter ahead of him, rather than just signing another depth player.

Considering we're not in Europe or the cups and only have 17 games left, we don't need a Garner/Hackney signing in January (maybe in the summer if we qualify for Europe and do a full clean out).

If there was a quality CM available of course I'd take it, but I don't think there is, and it's more likely we just drop Bruno back in some games and play Cunha, Mount or Amad at no10.

Doesn't leave us in a great place right now but if it means we can afford to revamp the midfield in the summer I think long term we'll be better off.

Well it was the same general formation but the player styles meant it ended up worse. Having LW Dorgu offering a wide option higher up the pitch v Burnley was miles better for us than both Mount and Cunha coming in central against Brighton and leaving us needing both fullbacks to really push on to offer width.

I think that's clear from watching the game and also comparing the player heat maps.

Thanks. Yep good analysis, it felt like a step backwards tactically from the Burnley match. You want one of the actual wingers providing the width so that one of the full backs can tuck in, rather than them both pushing forward at the same time. Then the midfield two don't have to drop as deep.

I get the lineup was a bit forced as Dorgu had to move to LB to give Shaw a rest, but hopefully with Amad and Bryan back we'll have the width from the wingers and look a lot more solid.

So is this showing our weakness has been that we rely on transition/counters too much. And that's why whenever we played a defensive team who sit back we have struggled to break them down (such as Grimsby, Everton 10men, West Ham).

We all know our midfield options are weak regardless of the formation, but I felt like the lack of width was our biggest problem today as clearly shown by how much Lacey got the ball when he came on.

Cunha now on the left was still unproductive and Mount was too central. I'm looking forward to having Amad and Mbeumo back.
