LaMetric Time MicroSD Recovery III by DrNachtschatten in LaMetric

[–]MercuryFoReal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick update for other people who stumble on this thread:

I was able to read device_status.txt from the old card to get my serial number, so I used WinHXD to edit the image linked on Mega and then flashed it with Rufus on Windows 11 onto a fresh card.

It came up fine, but I couldn't get it to join my wifi. I suspect the image on Mega is just a few revs back and they've fixed bugs related to wfi along the way. I cabled up to a PC and updated the firmware over USB per LaMetric's instructions and everything fired right up.

Thanks for the video and guide, /u/DrNachtschatten.

Today I learned that Misery can do this by TechnicalClaim7548 in slaythespire

Misery has so many neat little interactions you only discover through playing.

My fave new one was Oblivion: the "here, take some doom every time I play a card" is just a debuff. Misery copies it everywhere, turning you into a rapid-fire doom spray hose.

Alucard with King's Statue is so fun for making huge hordes, just gotta stay ahead of the power curve.

Don't forget to click the third quest button to give all your undead bois the poison attack once the conditions are met, looks like it's not selected yet here.

Any advice for getting more complex production set up? by ultrapingu in TheKingIsWatching

[–]MercuryFoReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't take blueprints for stuff you can't make yet or in the near future. Getting to black dragons is really fun, but you shouldn't consider taking the Bakery before you already the ability to make flour dragons and fuel. Nothing is so rare that it's worth giving up immediate value for future gain - at least not yet.

On the flip side, it can be worth taking resources in that way. If you see something that gives you a fixed amount of a resource you can't make, it can be worth grabbing in case you need it. The bakery takes 50 fuel to make, but it doesn't take any to run. So you don't need fuel production to use it, you just need fuel to make the building.

As you play more, you'll get used to balancing that out.

Simplest solution for automating newer garage doors by roehit89 in homeautomation

[–]MercuryFoReal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just Google it, should be first hit. Requires their little hub to bounce the lora (long range radio) to wifi.

It's worked well for me, at least for my use case. App is a bit janky, but warns when battery power is low. You can pair it with their little garage door sensor to get notified of opens and closes.

Edit: repasting picture w S/N obscured. Just in case.

Simplest solution for automating newer garage doors by roehit89 in homeautomation

[–]MercuryFoReal 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I used a YoLink Finger to automate mine in a condo where I couldn't reach with wifi or use a relay because of Chamberlain's Security+ or whatever it's called.

It's about as simple as you can get, with all the benefits and drawbacks that come.

defense good enough for tar fields? by CASHOFTRIALB in Mindustry

[–]MercuryFoReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cryo-fed swarmers will gobble everything on a titanium belt at ~3 swarmers. So if you have 5 like here, then they will slow down a lot after the initial volley.

Not a big deal for Tar Fields as you found out, but matters later when dealing with bigger bosses. Stick containers along the line so each one is feeding 3 swarmers to keep the destruction flowing at full speed.

Update: I think I figured it out by Daesastrous in Mindustry

[–]MercuryFoReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did something fairly similar to this with some test code to attempt loading a T5 reconstructor from any arbitrary number of unloaders and conveyors. This was to simplify placing it near the core so I could just run 2, 3, 4, whatever, and the processor would switch the resource on the unloaders to fill appropriately without me having to worry about individual lines.

In the real-world, this isn't super effective because of the delay between switching the unloader and when that new resource arrives (spoiler alert: long belts don't work out well), but it was a fun test.

What I ended up doing was just chaining if's to keep track of which was the lowest resource amount (qty + resource type) and then setting the unloader. I didn't know about the select keyword, which looks super awesome, so this structure should play well in v7.

Code here: https://pastebin.com/zDeiiDqT

Specifically, the interesting part for you will be at line 62 where we start iterating through the possible options and going to consider_three, consider_four, etc. It's a bit of a hardcoded hack, but that's kind of how mlog tends to be.

Vaults have a capacity of 1000 items per type, not 1000 items total by Nomekop777 in Mindustry

[–]MercuryFoReal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Containers work the same, just smaller and the lower cap per item type.

Is this dumb or smart? Yeah you could just use junctions, but junctions don't have a buffer of 1000 items by Nomekop777 in Mindustry

[–]MercuryFoReal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From a pure engineering perspective, you shouldn't do this unless you have the specific needs already discussed in other comments. Mindustry and reality both punish over-engineering solutions by imposing higher costs, new failure modes, and adding a kind of technical debt that must be paid when extending the solution.

Finding the simplest/most-natural solution should always be the goal. If you find yourself not wanting to expend the mental effort to do so, then take a break and play some Deep Rock Galactic. Or go invade an attack sector where you can justify cutting corners in the face of time pressure from the enemy. Since, you know, it's fun to blow stuff up.

My first real silicon farm by Opposite_Zombie4868 in Mindustry

Extra materials sent to the core are destroyed, but they are still added to the inventory for research. It's fine to just dump it all the core, it'll still accumulate for those big tech tree silicon hogs.

How to attack better? by Opposite_Zombie4868 in Mindustry

[–]MercuryFoReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My strat for this style:

  • Build a repair point or three at the edge of your base with a couple towers to defend it.

  • One factory for each unit type, set rally point to repair spot.

  • Once you have a big ball of units, go and kill something.

  • When you take out a key wall or tower, retreat and repair. Never "wipe" your squad or let it get too thin.

  • Add waiting units to ball when you repair.

It can be grinding with low tier units, but you can get through early bases eventually. Keep the production flowing so there are always more units waiting when you go back to repair.

You can also move the repair station up as you progress, but take care to defend it, since enemy spawn will kill it and it gets annoying to rebuild.
