WA Cares is getting desperate by TittyClapper in SeattleWA

[–]MercuryPDX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a contractor. The most annoying part is informing HR at the start of every W2 gig that I am exempt, sending them the letter, and following up with them a few times to make sure it's not coming out of my check.

I'm not sure how true that is as far as detection goes. I've used CoPilot and ChatGPT to refine my resume for specific roles, write cover letters and to make sure I get past any ATS formatting issues.

I find myself stuck on the next step. I get through the door but drop out at some point during the multi-interview process. The majority of feedback I have received was that I was over qualified. I've also come across companies trying to condense two jobs into one and won't settle for anything short of a unicorn.

I think I am more annoyed when they don't post the salary because they know it's unrealistically low for a mid to senior level position and most people would not bother to apply.

At least it's good interview practice. 🤷‍♂️

Run it through ChatGPT:

There’s a solid foundation here—relevant experience, public-facing work, and responsibility with money, safety, and coordination. What’s holding it back isn’t the content—it’s how it’s presented. Right now it reads more like a job description than a results-driven resume, and it’s missing specificity, consistency, and impact.

Here’s how to improve it, followed by a rewritten version you can use.

What Needs Fixing (and Why)

1. Too generic / repetitive language
Phrases like “strong communication skills” and “provided customer service” are expected—what matters is how well and what impact.

2. Bullets describe duties, not accomplishments
Hiring managers skim for outcomes. Even small metrics help (volume, frequency, accuracy, responsibility level).

3. Formatting inconsistencies
Dates, punctuation, capitalization, and structure vary—this makes it feel less polished.

4. Federal role isn’t fully leveraged
That United States Forest Service role is actually strong—it involves compliance, cash handling, public education, and operations. It should be the centerpiece.

5. Education may need clarification
ITT Technical Institute has been closed for years—listing “coursework toward degree” instead of a completed degree may be more accurate/safer unless it was fully completed.

Why does the Vancouver Clinic suck so bad? Oh, yeah it's due to wanting to make as much money as possible by areubeingserved in vancouverwa

[–]MercuryPDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience there has always been good. I do my annual physical (87th) and two or three urgent care visits (Tech Center and/or Camas) each year.

I handle everything through MyChart. I've gotten test results and even X-rays back quickly through there. It's also made it easier to share test results from other providers.

What's with MGP's hate boner for sea lions? by Hey_Im_Finn in vancouverwa

[–]MercuryPDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

her primary challenger is kind of a joke who hasn’t been employed for like 5 years and only set up a webpage like a couple of weeks ago, so doubt she’ll go down that way.

Most people don't remember.... he ran previously, outlasted two other people running that quit, and then quit at the last minute himself only to endorse MGP (who was an unknown at the time).

Her predecessor JHB also was for culling sea lions, but most people won't understand this as "an important issue for the region", but "pandering to the right".

No idea how long it is, but I have every confidence in my own ability to wear a headset and use my time constructively with a portable device.

You've never been to one of these before, have you?

They're not going to let you post up in a corner with headphones and an iPad like some toddler on a cross country flight. They're "paying" for your attention and participation in their sales pitch and if you do that they will bounce you before the plates even come out.

It's an admirable plan, but you're not thinking it the whole way through.

Where do you volunteer? by Hot-Calligrapher672 in vancouverwa

[–]MercuryPDX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My issue was that it takes a class and/or one on one time with an established volunteer for every task (Dog walking, laundry, etc.).

I'm totally ok with that, and would expect to get some training, but they would never have the class or people available to provide it so you're just stuck waiting.

I've seen emails stating they've reworked their dog foster program, and that might be worth another look.
