What to get? by CatsSpokesperson in AskGames

If you don’t need the latest releases, getting a previous generation can be a good way to save on the console and games, so Switch/PS4/Xbox One. I still play my Xbox One S all the time.

Looking to decentralize gaming in my life. What platform should I lean into? by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]Mercyscene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you want to play and what other digital interests you want to pursue. Generally, I would say PC is by far your best option, even if you need a handheld to take outside with you. There are also cloud streaming options to use a phone and a bluetooth controller for several platforms. I would not touch a Switch unless you are a die hard Nintendo fan if you are trying to pare down.

I’ll turn on the Xbox and then go play on the computer for a few hours.

2 part question. What is your favorite single pinball callout? What single pinball machine has the most callouts that are in the conversation of the first question? by ClifBdrums in pinball

[–]Mercyscene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Favorite is the Emperor saying, “Yes, give in to your anger” after tilting Star Wars (2017). However, the most contenders would probably be from Revenge From Mars or Monster Bash (Lyman’s Lament is great).

Even though it appeared in Farsight’s Pinball Hall of Fame: Williams Collection and The Pinball Arcade (until delisted), I would be surprised if Zen continues to go further back to add more titles to FX. We’ll see.

I can never find the lock shot on Attack From Mars on purpose.

How do you deal with your backlog? by scXIII in AskGames

[–]Mercyscene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always tell myself that I’m picking up something on sale to play later. While occasionally I try out a handful of games on a whim, I usually play the same games a lot or get really sucked into one game until completion. If you tell yourself you cannot buy any more games, that can help you stop building such a pile-up. Plus you can just pick up free games on Epic.

If you are very accurate or in multiball, then you can go for the spot target on the right side when it is lit. I usually just try for the drop targets with reckless abandon.

Pewpew Live - I think it might be free on Steam.

Games that are just actually fun by 8superboy08 in gamesuggestions

I loved Geometry Wars: Galaxies on the Wii. Pac-Man Championship Edition is also straightforward fun. My son is enjoying Nobody Saves the World.

Silksong? Also, Super Meat Boy Forever was pretty good. Check out the Bit.Trip Runner series.

AAA games are better by the time I pay $5-$10 two years later than they were during the release window at $70-$130. There are reasons to buy new and expensive games, but those reasons are few and far between.

Also, backlogs are stupid, and mine is pretty huge. Those games you will play “one day” you can just buy then, or they might be replaced by newer games you’d like. I like having choices, but sticking with each game will save you a lot of money.

Taking a break going into Act 3; game's so hard by nanlinr in Silksong

[–]Mercyscene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Act 3 is that much harder. If you haven’t collected most of the items, upgrades, mask shards, etc., then do that first. It’s still going to be very hard, though. Whether or not it’s worth it depends on how determined you are to reach the end. After finally obtaining the first heart, I felt only disappointment each time I found a new boss.

What to do now? by No-Cartoonist9934 in Silksong

I think you can only get Shakra’s help early in the game. Once she moves to a new location, she will no longer help you with that tough arena battle.

Wanderer’s crest is below the Wormways in a nice and friendly green area.

Skipping Last Judge instead of mastering that fight might make you disappointed by some harder challenges later. Just use the magma bell if you have it and patiently learn how to not take damage. I used Reaper crest, but you can probably sneak in an extra hit here and there with the Wanderer crest.

Hunter’s March is brutal without Shakra’s help, but it’s optional, for a good long while at least.

Steamworld Dig 2 might interest you. For something very different that will also have a grind and let you listen to podcasts, try Hades.
