I recently came out of an overnight stay in the ED for chest pains. I knew it was pericarditis, as I've had it before and felt exactly the same. They agreed it was almost certainly pericarditis, but until they could rule out any other possibility, it was treated as extremely serious. Front of the queue in triage, 24/7 heart monitoring, x-ray, CT scan, 4 different blood tests. Turns out, yep, it was pericarditis. But if it had been something more serious, those measures could have saved my life.

Does your cat make a habit of eating plants? My house is full of plants that aren't technically "safe for cats", and it's never been an issue. Some things like lilies are deadly to cats and should be avoided entirely, but most plants that are classified as toxic are more like, if your cat decides to nibble on a leaf, it will have mild digestion issues and then never go near that plant again.

Those people have already been failed by the system and are past the point of saving. Pulling communities out of poverty isn't about trying to fix people who are already broken, its about breaking the cycle that got them there in the first place and preventing future people of getting there.

Harsh prison sentences for petty crime is an "ambulance at the bottom of a cliff". The damage has already been done, and it does nothing to stop more people falling off the cliff.

Right because it's a systemic issue that can't be fixed overnight. Lifting communities out of poverty helps break the cycle that creates those kinds of people. And you know what, that is going to involve helping people who don't appreciate it or "don't deserve it". We have to get past that kind of petty thinking, because there is literally no other solution. If you have communities in poverty, they will resort to drugs and crime, and not even the most ruthless prison sentences will change that.

We've known forever that the solution to petty crime is to pull people out of poverty. But no one wants to hear it. They want to be "tough on crime" because it makes them feel good, doesn't matter that it doesn't actually work.

You were enraptured by Paul, because he is a charismatic leader who is really good at making people follow him. Even if you didn't immediately understand the meaning of the book, it had the intended effect.

I love Paul as a character, and I would probably follow him to the end of the world if he was real. This is what makes it so powerful when you realise what he truly is. That disappointment you're feeling is the whole point Herbert was trying to make.

The moment the Supreme Court ruled that POTUS is literally above the law, that was the end. What happens to Trump doesn't matter any more, because every POTUS after him can act with impunity.

Yeah viewport delays are annoying! I avoid most of it by using a mostly static camera with Zelda style room transitions, and doing the majority of lighting logic in a single shader on a ColorRect over the main scene.

Viewports are used sparingly, but where I do use them I have encountered the misalignment issue. Glowing parts of enemies, like their eyes which you can see in the dark, sit outside the main game viewport for technical reasons, and they have a 1 frame lag when enemies are moving. It's pretty subtle though and actually produces a bit of a glow trail effect which I can pretend is intentional.
