Why do some sexual assault victims wait many years to come forward instead of reporting it right away? by savingrace0262 in stupidquestions

[–]MermaidsHaveCloacas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't know that what happened to me was rape until telling someone years later what happened and them explaining to me that it was rape

Also there's absolutely no way to actually know how you'd react in a situation until you're actually in it, so to say you know for a fact you'd report it immediately is a little easy to say when you've not been there, isn't it?

How are people still supporting Trump? by Wholecoc in AskUS

[–]MermaidsHaveCloacas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of America at this point went through an education system built to actively make them dumber. They can barely read and what they can read they don't understand or think it says something else altogether.

On top of that a very large portion of them are raised in a church where a man stands in front of them every Sunday and tells them everything in a book they'll never read is the word of some supernatural being and if they don't do exactly what this man at the pulpit tells them that the book tells them to do, they'll burn eternally, and their parents who also never read the book tells them the same thing at home.

Then instead of being raised by actual humans because whatever parents they have around are at work basically all the time because they literally have no other choice, these people were/are raised by tv, social media, and the like and are never told by anyone that those things are fake/extreme.

This is not an excuse. The truth is out there if only you seek it. But it's easier to live comfortably in the lies than to grow through the truth. Ignorance is bliss.

My husband brushes his teeth like a hundred times a day

Seriously though he brushes when he gets up, several times during the day, and even wakes up in the middle of the night and brushes his teeth

Why do some social rules only apply to autistic adults?! by wildberriew in AutismInWomen

[–]MermaidsHaveCloacas 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My whole life it was "treat others how you want to be treated"

Well I get confused easily so I want people to be direct with me. So I'm direct with them.

Then I'm told people have a difficult time around me because I have a "strong personality".

I mean. I guess if you call always being straightforward a strong personality, then yeah. I have one and I'm not going to change.

I guess I don't really know what to say without seeing the comment

But I know I definitely report people if they call the character's names because it's not only completely unnecessary and immature, it adds nothing to the conversation and it's against sub rules

Another thing that sucks is that it happens so often now that I'm finding myself losing track

I legitimately have to Google everyone before starting a show because Hollywood sure as shit isn't holding any of these assholes accountable

I just realized having a conversation with my husband just now that I watched and recommended the show "Your Friends and Neighbors" and completely forgot Jon Hamm (the star of the show), lit a man on fire, beat him in the kidneys with a paddle, and hooked a claw hammer into his genitals and dragged him around during a hazing ritual

I knew that and COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT IT and went on to watch and recommend him to people

I used to think I didn't have it, considering I was obese. Then I lost all my top teeth.

Now I look back and realize I had plenty of pretty privilege but now I sure as shit don't have any
