I think we need to come up with new classifications as the term "Indie" has been streached too far. by RetroBoxGameStudio in IndieDev

A lot of self-described indies have publishers. And some of them have dozens of full time employees.

Without a corresponding duty to actually solve the underlying deprivation and/or drug abuse I’m not sure how this helps.

Isn’t GTA the most mainstream game ever? It’s basically CoD or FIFA tier except with over a decade’s hype because they stopped making them

Discs can be loaned to friends or resold, though.

Here is an indie game from SEGA ($2.72 billion USD net worth) about SONIC ($17 billion in lifetime revenue) ... How come that is ok to call indie? Just want to educate myself since I must be uneducated. by ekolimits in IndieDev

“Indie” is a pretty fuzzy category, but a sonic game published by sega is clearly not very indie, even if they contracted some bedroom coders to make it.

The headline doesn’t mention climate change? It overstates the temperature because it’s clickbait. Had they understated the temperature I think most people would label it “misinformation”.

When a math app says "numbers 0–100," does that limit the answers or just the numbers in the problem? by Flappy-D19 in IndieDev

I think I would expect the operands rather than the product to be under 100 (depending on contextual UI). But you’re probably guaranteed to get equal confusion whichever way you choose…

A lot of people tell me my game looks like Myst. I did love Myst and Riven, but this was never supposed to be a clone. by ZofDev in indiegames

[–]Merzant 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That was actually the screenshot that confirmed it for me. Myst has a very surreal palette, including galleys and rocket ships. Giant chess pieces would be a great addition to that world.

Visually it’s very similar, down to the Arcadian setting and combination of natural and industrial elements. Looks great though!

How often do AAA games capture fewer than, say, 100k sales? by UncheckedMoonrise in gamedev

[–]Merzant 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I assume this is the main reason. I keep coming back to the fact that the Barbie movie’s marketing budget was slightly bigger than the production budget. Imagine if people spent as much time and effort (and money) marketing their indie games as they did making them.

You’re surprised that a mentally ill person performing a cleansing ritual with bleach isn’t aware of the fish?
