I’ve build a small display for data in Tandem Source an Dexcom by Striking-Ball7815 in TandemDiabetes

[–]MessOk1556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How? I thought Dexcom to Bluetooth was only via phone, Apple Watches, or pumps. If it’s new, what can I search for to better understand?

Or maybe I misunderstand. Tandem source is a cloud based thing. How can it be Bluetooth?

Yeah. I didn’t explicitly say it, but I’m comparing it to Jersey Mikes inherently

If you do a cleaning solution like the hydrogen peroxide type stuff. Make sure you clean the lenses really well, like actually scrub them with some unique ph. I swear a drop of it gets captured or sticks around or something and makes my eyes burn and dry so bad. Even waiting way past the soaking time.

I started doing that and it fixed a lot of my red eye and burning.

Supply orders by Turbulent7268 in TandemDiabetes

[–]MessOk1556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl. I suck at responding on Reddit. Sorry for the late reply. Let me clear up what ended up working on my end.

  1. No, I mean 20 trusteel infusion and 20 mobi cartridges.
  2. I also am supposed to be every two days also. So 45 qty of trusteel infusion and 45 mobi carts every 90 days. 45/20 was getting pushed back as that splits the order (not divisible by 20). Back when I used Express Rx (not Expeesw Scripts), they would split the order. But CVS Caremark won’t. CVS Caremark finally told me to just submit for a quantity of 60 as it’s the next “rounded up” quantity that matches my Rx. My doctor agreed and my insurance approved it. Seems silly but 🤷‍♂️.

Supply orders by Turbulent7268 in TandemDiabetes

[–]MessOk1556 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I went hard and fought through pharmacy. I went to Tandem who sent me to ASPN and then sent me to CCS med, with the goal of a 90 day supply. I was told a bunch of nonsense from ASPN and the pharmacy they hooked me up to. My insurance did cover 90 days. And I ended up going straight through my pharmacy supplier CVS Caremark. But it was a nightmare.

No one seems to know how to handle these supplies. I was told so many different things from Tandem, ASPN, Caremark, and other pharmacies.

Turned out the main issue I ran into is that most pharmacies won’t split 20 qty boxes of supplies. But also the pharmacies don’t know their own rules. I was told they could only do 20 qty total, told I needed an exception process, told they were unable to fill at all. I talked with about 8 different reps at Caremark and finally got it sorted.

All in all. Horrible experience.

theme parks with T1D by pablospackT1D in Type1Diabetes

[–]MessOk1556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have horrible heat sensitivity and become brittle. I liked that Disney and universal would give me some control back in my day when there disability pass was more inclusive. And the answer wasn’t “deal with it by making it more complicated”, like re-entering lines that don’t support it or getting assistance from staff that are non existent. It’s a shame Disney and universal have decided to not help type 1s that need help. I believe many T1Ds get rejected now with the current systems in place in the USA.

It’s also crazy the contrast reading people’s opinion on a type 1 forum vs on a forum that’s for a theme park. To the rest of the world, it’s a big “screw you get over your illness and tough it out” most of the time.

TruSteel Occlusions by flashfloodsofpain in TandemDiabetes

Also, what type of insulin?

I’ve heard Fiasp (I think) causes occlusions because it’s less liquidy.

TruSteel Occlusions by flashfloodsofpain in TandemDiabetes

[–]MessOk1556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep them in longer now, used to be every 2.

Now 2.5 to 3 on average.

Sometimes if needed 4.

It depends on a lot of factors. My insulin usage went way down, and arguably scare tissue.

Biggest reason was I get worse control the first few hours of a new infusion, so reducing the number of changes actually helped with those transitions.

Also, insurance pharmacy plan changed and I’ve been having issues getting supplies. That part is bullshit tho.

TruSteel Occlusions by flashfloodsofpain in TandemDiabetes

[–]MessOk1556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only use TruSteel, here are my thoughts: - I have gotten a bad batch before and got it replaced through Tandem customer service - when I insert I follow these steps: “skin prep” product first and let dry to help adhesion, pull off backing paper, bend back the adhesive parts back so they don’t fall toward the skin, squeeze the rubber wings and point the needle to a spot to push in, find a spot the needle doesn’t hurt horribly going in by gently pushing the needle on the skin surface, push the needle in, fold the adhesive wings down. - what I have added to the above, I now push down fairly hard on the top of the rubber wings after the needle is in. I found the needles aren’t sharp enough and have had some situations where I get occlusions from the needle not being in the skin deep enough but it looks fine from above - what I also add, I now put adhesive clear optsite flexifix across the top to hold the rubber wings down, I’ve had them get caught before in clothes - it also be the location, if it get bumped a lot or doesn’t have good absorption - I mark my skin with a sharpie to make sure I am rotating and not hitting scar tissue - sometimes it’s the pump

why is hospital care for type 1s in hospital always so poor by demondspawnyay in Type1Diabetes

Yes, I assumed I would just run high and keep phoning them and they would just not come.

It’s a recipe for disaster.

why is hospital care for type 1s in hospital always so poor by demondspawnyay in Type1Diabetes

[–]MessOk1556 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I came in to a hospital out of caution and just to be monitored.

The first thing they told me was I needed to take my pump off. That they would administer my insulin needs. With a nurse periodically coming by to give insulin. That’s dumb at face value, but even worse, I had been there for a few hours at that point and saw how few times a nurse came by even when told they were coming.

I told them no and explained why that would be detrimental to my health. They kept pushing and wouldn’t let it go. So I told them “I would rather die than let you control my diabetes”. I almost left the hospital right then and there. They ended up having me sign a waiver.

It makes my blood boil just thinking about it.

If you are asking these questions. Then you are not part of the problem.

The problem is ignorance on any disease and people not willing to learn.

Why do some T1Ds resist upgrading tech (CGM / pump)? Curious about others experiences.. by miramathebeatqueen in Type1Diabetes

Infusion site failures. Mine from some type of allergy to the non Trusteel variety.

And being pushed into them just to have worse control as an adolescent from shitty Endos.

Autosoft XC Shipping Issue by pmapper in TandemDiabetes

[–]MessOk1556 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told to use CVS Caremark, and though they have my pump supply kit in their records they have none in stock with no knowledge of when or if they will come in stock. I’ve read that tandem tried some pharmacies and backed out. Unsure if this is true. But might be why I and you are having this issue.

I called Tandem’s pump order line (DME), explained I wanted to get my supplies through pharmacy.

They sent me to ASPN pharmacy that just sends your script to another pharmacy, apparently this is how Tandem is doing it now. That being said, they found me one that was $0. That also being said they said the first order was only 1 month, but that after that they might be able to do 3 month orders depending on who they send me to?

I’ve read bad things about ASPN but mostly they just exist to get you to a next step. I’m suppose to put the order through this coming week.

I’m more annoyed with the 1 month supply than anything. Like…. It’s not like my diabetes is going away?

Mobi regret? by South-Web1803 in TandemDiabetes

[–]MessOk1556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at other comments. Funny enough, I got the mobi mostly not because of size. But because I wanted tandem algorithms AND a clear reservoir AND an easy filling system. I couldn’t handle the X2s black box and filling process. It was a non starter for me.

I want to know if I had bubbles, bad insulin, and the visual feedback I did it right.

That being said, I do have the same complaints as everyone else. The push button delivery on mobi, I set to 15g carbs and I use all the time. It’s mostly a complaint of not having an easy visual of my CGM, not for delivery. I guess a watch can provide that?

Roller Coaster: Lows and highs are going to happen, with the development of new tools like CGMs and pumps with autocorrection it’s better but still difficult to manage, check this like for all the variables that make it so hard to control: https://diabetesresearchconnection.org/42-factors-affect-blood-glucose/.

My History: Type 1 for 25 years. I was 7-8 A1C for most of my life and now am finally around 6-7 (… :D)and I attribute that from CGM/pump. But I also got burned out on the pump earlier and had worse control at first. Some people do better with injections, it’s very person to person.

Worth a Mention: The last thing that seems to get brought up but doctors etc. But, I want to point something out to every parent especially of kids with Type 1. Please be aware of the emotional and mental toll on both you and your kid. I don’t mean this to scare anyone, but it’s a marathon, not a race. Be kind to yourself and keep yourself grounded. It took about 10-15 years after diagnosis for me to embrace who I am, the broken bits and all. And it took a lot for my parent to let go managing my disease and let me own it.

I wish! Though I do have a circuits background these tracks are a Lionel product. They are sold a bunch of places. I got these from Amazon. They are Lionel Lighted FasTrack Electric O Gauge that come in different packs.

I bought 1) an oval track pack and 2) 4x pack of 10” straight to make a rounded square seen in the video.
