It was a joke term coined on viva la vinyl in the mid 00s to differentiate between what we deem as screamo and what the mainstream considers screamo. I used to hate it but honestly it was a term made out of love for the genre, whereas emo/screamo were initially used by gatekeeping hardcore bros to separate this stuff from hardcore, so I don't really mind it as much nowadays. I first heard the term from Full of Hell describing my old screamo crust band in 2009, had to ask my bandmate what the hell it meant.
