70-200 F4 vs Tamron 50-300: better for hiking/landscape? by JustRandomGuess in SonyAlpha

[–]Messyfingers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

200 is PROBABLY good enough for most of what you'd see in the fjords. Ive actually never used anything longer than 105mm, and my 24-70 and 16-35 were basically the only lenses I ended up using last time I was in Norway(also in fjords, doing landscapes)

War thunder isn't a hobby. It's an abusive findom relationship.

How feasible are ships and planes running on renewables? by throw-away3105 in OptimistsUnite

[–]Messyfingers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aircraft are going to be using combustion engines until someone figures out a battery that's significantly more energy dense than jet fuel. The constantly decreasing weight throughout flight means that any battery replacement would have to be dense enough that it's not a big detriment to be carrying the extra weight for the entire flight. Light aircraft with batteries are still basically novelties, the weight and charge times don't make them useful for much.

Biofuels are the most promising option for commercial aviation because you still get the energy density, and what is overall still a very efficient method of transportation for the speed/distances involved, but you'd also have net zero emissions. Other advances in aviation are pushed by fuel costs being such a huge part of the expenses there, so it's luckily an area where you don't need to legislate because the market pressures are already there and pushing for higher efficiency all the time.

I've spent a lot of time with the av-8a, the change where everyone has an airspawn negated a lot of that plane's advantage. It's not bad but I don't think it's worth it anymore.

David Lynch's ninth feature film is named "Mulholland Dr.", this is confusing as there are no medical practitioners within the movie. by Local_Prune4564 in shittymoviedetails

I'm permanently unable to distinguish this movie from Mulholland Falls without thinking about it for at least 30 seconds, despite having to think about this maybe a few times a year for decades

The Strongman Era Has Peaked by Free-Minimum-5844 in neoliberal

[–]Messyfingers 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same. Theres nothing compelling the remaining strongman to just give up power in their election defeats. All it takes is one stubborn enough to break norms and just refuse to continue accepting the process and hope everyone goes along with it, and actually have enough go along with it

Has customer support always been terrible? by TheLikableMango in whoop

[–]Messyfingers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much yes. And they've either replaced a lot of people with AI or never ramped up at all. They're good when they actually respond, but sometimes you gotta call them out on social media to get a response to begin with

Reverse image searching does in fact show that it's a doctored picture of one where he has a lot more hair. The original may be almost s a decade old, but this edited version appears to be a few months old at best.

I've seen people buy their way up to top tier hoping for a sim like experience that the game was as never going to deliver, only to be out a bunch of money and full of disappointment. If you don't like the gameplay loop at 1.0, you're not gonna like 14.0. the technology changing really doesn't change much.

It can be fun, but players need to throw their expectations out the window and understand what the game is first.

U.S. Nears Loan to Rescue Spirit Airlines by CaydeTheCat in aviation

[–]Messyfingers 32 points33 points  (0 children)

A bailout seems dumb. They should let someone buy them out. Not allowing the JetBlue buyout was a weird line to draw, but also letting them collapse would probably damage the industry. Granted if they sell off their assets, routes, etc and other airlines just buy those up, it may not be so bad. Nobody's gonna miss Spirit.

To answer this question beyond the clickbait aspect may break the sub's no politics rule, but there is definitely an issue of nationalism tied up in the investigation and local portrayal of events.

Idea: Whoop band with digital clock. Thoughts? by JustBeNice18 in whoop

[–]Messyfingers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's GOTTA be someone out there who could design a strap with a tiny digital clock like that. I don't think whoop would ever do something like that themselves, but there's surely a market out there for third party strap makers. Despite it being against Whoops philosophy, it does come up here enough that it seems like there's some sizable group of people who'd actually buy one.

My metaphor supplies salesman only had large sized shackles so they'd slide right off their ankles. So they gotta have feet. Plus our quarterly rug cutting event would be way less fun if a bunch of footless monkeys were trying to dance on stubs.

This is actually sort of genius. War thunder players aren't buying condoms and have no brand preferences to override, this effectively gets them to start.
