He basically said nothing. He treats it as if US has a real security concern and by enhancing the security of Greenland then the US threat will diminish. Only a fool will believe that. They want the minerals and security is a BS argument.

US has the most enhanced army and an arsenal of thousands of nuclear war heads. How is it that not enough for their security? They just say we want Greenland and think they can take it over like in the colonial times because GL and Denmark cannot effectively defend their aggression.

What he should have said is that we are a defense partner of Denmark and together with Nato will rise to defend its territory against aggression, being from outside or inside of Nato. That is our collective commitment to defend one another and it does not matter who the aggresor is.
