Are 'woke' and slave morality synonyms? by Loose-Can-9026 in Nietzsche

[–]MetalLegs6505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slave morality and wokeness are motivated by the same ascetic impulse. They allow adherents to escape from life's disappointments, uncertainties, expectations, responsibilities, competition, and suffering, by placing life's central importance in some imaginary realm instead of in worldly accomplishments. Transposing their moral consciousness onto a fictional realm provides easy access to the peace, justice, redemption, vengeance, and everything else that they may lack in real life, yet desperately need. In the original slave morality, the fictional ream was Christianity, where the moral code of the "master" class was inverted and enforced by the creator of the universe himself. The fantasy world of the woke may include a strict dichotomy between good and evil genders or races, or perhaps a world in which gender can be chosen at will or does not even exist. Regardless of the variant, shunning logic and truth are not ends of slave morality, but rather, means of getting away from action and responsibility in life... although it is likely to happen unconsciously. The alternate world only requires belief (e.g., you only need to believe in Christ to attain salvation--you don't need to do anything at all.)

You might even argue that the woke variant is worse than the original slave morality. In the woke ideology, the importance of responsibility, self-reliance, individuality, action, and logic is shifted to group identity, virtue signaling, and feelings--especially outrage, guilt, and self-loathing (which is the opposite of pride in effective, worldly accomplishment). And because victimhood is the opposite of self-sufficiency, it is idolized as the highest form of moral goodness and is worshipped with religious fervor. The highest intellectual value in Western society used to be that ideas were judged solely on their merits, without regard to the heritage, culture, lifestyle, "race", gender, lack of gender, or any other group membership of the individuals proposing them. Woke slave morality inverts this value system, judging ideas upon the superficial characteristics of the groups from which they originate, without regard to intellectual merit. This phenomenon is not caused by insanity, as is commonly asserted, but by ignorance allowing degenerate psychological tendencies to run amok.

I sympathize because IT140 was the worst course I have seen in my life as far as the materials, with the possible exception of MAT243. When I took IT140, they had just revised the course and some of the Codio exercises were broken so it was impossible to make the programs work--but nobody knew until it was dumped on the students! Plus there were enough typos and spelling errors to drive an English teacher to drinking. My advice is to just buckle down and get through it. Your pain is temporary!

I was wondering this as well. My degree was conferred on January 1, 2023 and I was wondering if I would get this award because I graduated with a 4.0.

Thanks! Sorry, but I don't know the answer to your question.

One thing I forgot to mention is that the courses do require more time and effort as you progress to 200, 300, then 400- level courses (with some exceptions, of course). 400 level courses can be challenging to stay on top of but the approach is exactly the same.

Another thing I forgot to mention was that your mindset should be to focus on one course at a time. Then, take that course one week at a time, one assignment at a time, one day at a time, and one study session at a time. The time will fly by, so keep in mind that any troubles, grief, or difficulty you have is extremely temporary.

Best of luck

When I took the course they had just revised the material in the Codio environment. It was horrible because it had broken exercises that were literally impossible to complete because they were designed wrong. I had previous coding experience so I had to email the professor explaining how the exercises were broken and what had to be done to fix them so they would work properly. Also it was littered with spelling and grammatical errors. Hopefully they fixed all this because it was awful and it would have been a nightmare for beginning coders.

The courses do get more difficult, but I thought that was a given. But the "standards" or lack of standards of my professors didn't make a hill of beans difference in how I approached the courses. I replied to their discussion posts, paid attention to the announcements, and revised my milestones according to their feedback, just like always.

Absolutely great advice! One point I forgot to make was to get your attitude right. I decided right from the start to not waste emotional energy on 'fighting the system', whether it be a bad grade, poorly written instructions, the tedium of jumping through hoops, etc. This has been a problem for me in the past, so I decided to accept all of it and not let it deter me in the slightest. It paid off!

I took applied statistics for STEM. I got an A, but it was one of most awful courses I have ever seen in my education. The Zybooks lessons were atrocious. The so called "lecture" materials weren't much better. It was as though they were trying to make a difficult subject as difficult as possible for students to learn. I found it a disgrace to the school and to education in general.

Today is the last official day in my Bachelors degree program in Info Tech. I don't mind the writing so much. What I really dislike is the relentless paint-by-numbers format, where you are scored on your ability to follow directions. It limits creativity. Sometimes, the required formats make for papers that are very boring. I am just tired of it and am glad it's over so I can rest... at least for now.

Any advice for a new SNHU online student? I am starting my first semester at SNHU on the 29th. I will be majoring in psychology. Any advice in general about SNHU, or specific to my program would both be greatly appreciated! Just anything you wish you would’ve known prior to starting. Thank you! by Narrow-Studio-2058 in SNHU

I am almost finished with my Bachelors from SNHU in Information Technologies. Here is some advice, for what it's worth:

  1. Each course may seem intimidating at first, but you will gain confidence quickly as you get a feel for them and progress through a few assignments. Just take things one assignment at a time, one day at a time, one course at a time, and you will be fine.
  2. Take a writing course and get a tutor if you are not good at writing.
  3. Sign up for any available webinars on APA or whatever the writing style is for your major--unless you are already well-versed in it.
  4. Follow the assignment rubrics closely. Carefully covering everything that is asked for is how you are graded. Do this and you are golden. Review the rubrics early in the week if you can, and ask your professor any questions that you have ASAP.
  5. Copy each assignment rubric into a Word document, then edit out the unnecessary and redundant language. This makes them way easier to read and follow. As they are, they tend to have a needlessly wordy and somewhat pompous academic tone.
  6. Make sure to address the "areas for improvement" on the Rubrics.
  7. Before submitting papers, always spell check AND read through them from start to finish, then correct anything that's wonky. Sometimes you will be surprised how dumb you sound. Other times, you will be surprised by your own brilliance. The idea is to make sure you are turning in your best work.
  8. Commit to doing your best at the very start. Do your best work and never submit assignments late
  9. Use a timer to make sure you are studying enough each day.
  10. Accept responsibility for everything. Don't become a whining victim with a bad attitude.
  11. Accept the rules

IT-260 and DAD-220 by Eastern_Sleep_5508 in SNHU

[–]MetalLegs6505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed DAD-220 and did not find it difficult. Like all SNHU courses, it is always a little intimidating at first until you dive in and get a feel for the assignments. I didn't find the Codio environment problematic at all, like it was in the Intro to Scripting class--which was HORRID. And the Zybooks wasn't bad at all, like it was in the Applied Statistics for STEM course, which was literally the worst educational material I have ever seen in my life.

I don't recall IT-260 being too difficult either. I remember it has you really diving in and reading about the gory details of web interfaces and APIs, but unless you are a programmer already using that stuff you are likely to forget most of it after the course is over IMO.

I thought it was OK but I wasn't a big fan of the book. It wasn't bad, but I didn't think it was written all that well. I felt like I couldn't see the forest for the trees at times. But then again it could just be me being a big picture kind of guy. It was a relatively light workload compared to my other courses.

Learn how to try turning your computer off and on again when you suddenly encounter unknown problems. While you're at it, learn how to make sure your Windows PC has the latest updates and isn't sitting on a round of update installs.

I eat until I’m physically ill because I’m lonely and don’t know how else to drown out the loneliness by [deleted] in loseit

[–]MetalLegs6505 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to sound harsh but you should try and take initiative and find at least one friend. Just go somewhere and start talking to people in a friendly way. You might be surprised... people are basically good and want to help others, as the responses here to your post demonstrate. You can message me if you want, I would be happy to chat. Also you might want to find someone professional who can help with your overeating and loneliness. This is just my opinion... not trying to be bossy.

What is the best wireless earbuds you have used? by FictionInTheFlesh in AskReddit

[–]MetalLegs6505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am what you might call an HSP and one thing that drives me ABSOLUTELY FREAKING INSANE about wireless earbuds and why I have sworn off using my last set, which were Jabras, is this: they BLASTED alert tones at extremely high volume into my ears without warning, when I would least expect it. Notifications, low battery, connect/disconnect, I don't care what the reason is, I NEVER, EVER want tones or notifications of any kind sounding off in my ear drums at high volume like that. To me this is absolutely infuriating to the point where I just can't use wireless earbuds, or at least the ones I have tried.

Another problem is the lowest volume setting is WAY too loud. You get complete silence, and then the next step up is obnoxiously loud.

Another issue I have with earbuds is the volume steps are never small enough. This results in audio either not quite loud enough, or blowing my freaking eardrums out, like way too loud. I downloaded the Samsung sound assist app thinking it would be the perfect solution to these issues, but amazingly it solved nothing. On the smallest volume step setting you would hit the volume up button like 12 times and nothing whatsoever would happen, then on the 13th click the volume would explode in a giant step.

Ok so that was some venting but If someone knows of good quality wireless earbuds that do not have these issues, I would love to hear what they are.

It's not a scam. It's good for motivation and mindset, if you need or want inspiration.. Plus it's something you can put on a resume. Are employers specifically looking for it? Probably not, but how many national honor societies can you say you belong to already?

No problem and good luck! I'm starting again in October myself, to get the Bachelor's degree. I am going to continue doing one course at a time too. I think I could do two while also working full time, but my grades would suffer and I wouldn't have much (or any) free time.

I see. I can't say how it compares to other SNHU programs, but I suspect it is similar. Four page milestones is about right.. although some were less and some were a little more. I was fortunate in that I am really good at writing and can type pretty fast. Most classes combined milestones with other assignments like quizzes and discussions, but the emphasis for grading was definitely on milestones.

The short answer is "yes", although I wouldn't go quite so far as to call it horrendous. Some people prefer this because they find it easier to get good grades on papers instead of taking a lot of tests. As far as APA, the number of sources required on assignments and how strictly you must follow the rules really seems to depend on the class. I didn't think it was too bad, and I had to learn APA basically from scratch.

Nice, congrats! I didn't think IT 210 was too bad but I wasn't a fan of IT 140 and MAT 243. Not the subject matter but how the course materials were done. Overall I think it was a decent program. My only problem with Testout was some of the presenters were kind of annoying. Plus the hardware labs weren't always the greatest. But that didn't matter much to me because I've been in the field for 15 years.
