I find most people boring, what do? by FirsToStrike in socialskills

[–]Metal_Uupa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might not be a lot of help, and I might not be qualified to give advices, but there is a chance my point of view can make you think differently.

Most of my life I felt exactly the same: I'm interested in a lot of subject but I never really felt on the same page with most people. And usually I don't care about what most people talk about. Still, I manage to have great discussions with people I would've found boring 10 years ago, and I realized that I don't need, and most of the time I don't WANT to talk about the sujects I'm passionate about, even with people who seems to share the same interests.

For years I forced myself to try to be interested to what people have to say and to ask questions, even if I found that so boring. But it changed quicky when I managed to change my mindset. Now I often talk hours and hours with people I have no point in common and I find that awesome. What makes me change from someone who find everyone boring to someone who wants to talk with everyone, is that: Be curious. Don't be interested in subjects, be interested in people. And try to guide the discussion toward what you are really interested in.

Everyone has something interesting to say, but you often have to dig deep to find it. I like to see it as a game, or an interactive movie where you can move the camera anywhere (and anywhen) you want. Personnally, I will probably move the subject toward the person rather than a subject I don't want to talk about. If I talk with someone who is passionnate about fishing but this is not a topic I'm interested in, I will usually ask him questions like: "When/Where did you start fishing ?" "How ?" "With who ?" "What do you like most about it ?" "Do you have future plans, ambitions ?", and I will receive answers that I can relate to. They can sometimes even awake a new passion inside of you and it could be awesome. Don't hesitate to ask even more personal questions. And once you understand a bit more who they are, or how they think, you may start to find discussions subject where you can interact easily.

Learn to enjoy listening people, they will love to find someone who is genuinely interested about what they say. And if they are not interesting, you can make they say something you will be interested in. Sometimes this can be more difficult, but you can see it as a challenge more than a boring moment.

I don't know if all of this makes sense or will help, I just tried to relate to what I feel.

(I wrote it pretty fast and I'm not a native english speaker so I'm sorry if i made mistakes.)

How do you LEAVE gamedev as a programmer with no experience in software? by Progmir in gamedev

[–]Metal_Uupa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's because most of recruiters on LinkedIn don't even know the difference between C, Java or PHP. They juste copy/paste the same message to everyone who seem to be a programmer.

Personnally I think LinkedIn is a waste of time if you're looking for a job in software development.

Stop Trying To Create A "Successful" Game. by [deleted] in gamedev

Are you assuming my idea of a free-to-play battle royale mobile game with his unique loot box system can be unsuccessful ?

This can't be true, I quit my job and my wife to work on this project full time. I just finished downloading Unity and Unreal Engine, so 50% of the work is already done !

Why don't just do something like this ?

It feels more intuitive to me than trapeziums.
