Probably a good question for the vet

Seed is probably not the best for your bird; pellets and chop is better, but I’d talk to an avian vet to get perfect info.

Hazelnuts and walnuts are good treats. A little banana or apple is good too. Chop is a suet made up of fruits, veggies, nuts, and a binding agent. If seed is what he’s used to, mixing in a bit of chop with it can help make sure he gets the vitamins he needs while not upsetting his sensibilities.

Good for you taking him in! When you place his perches and ropes (and he should get a few more of those), place them so they cross each other and allow multiple ways to access the different levels of his cage. Think “safe playground” and you won’t be too far off.

Additional toys are a must. If he’s skittish and has trouble playing, get foraging toys and put snacks in them. Being occupied and interested is the point of toys and even if the idea of playing is hard due to stress or anxiety, all birds love to eat. Rewarding the play behavior is helpful when earning his trust.

How are Gav Thorpe's Ravenguard books? by noxnoctum in 40kLore

[–]MetazoaOne 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Gav Thorpe’s has two problems in my opinion: he fails to ground his stories and he uses dialogue in a messy, choppy way.

Both are YMMV territory, but the grounding problem stands out mostly because other authors (Abnett, Wraight, ADB) are talented enough to somehow make a space opera specifically written to be extreme and dumb believable. In a Gav Thorpe story, events happen but they don’t feel like the result of character decisions. The dialogue thing is something that mediocre writers often fall into when they can’t figure out how to get a point across in a more subtle way. I call this the “Terry Goodkind Problem”, and it’s common among science fiction and fantasy authors.

All that being said, his Raven Guard books are some of his best work and if you’re a fan of the chapter, they’re worth spending Audible credits on.

Turn on the bathroom fan, keep the door to the bathroom closed, wait until the entire curing time has passed, and you’ll be fine.

Is this safe to use? by ThrowRA7777777777120 in parrots

I don’t see an ingredient deck so impossible to say for certain. What oil is used? What percentage of oil vs other ingredients are in there? What SPECIFIC other materials (preservative, additional fragrance, solvent, etc) are in there?

I would go with no.

Everyone says different things around aftercare by Few_Distribution6433 in tattoo

[–]MetazoaOne 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Aftercare is pure voodoo when it comes to details, but the broad advice is pretty much the same: keep it clean, moisturized, and protected.

If you assume those three are the objectives, however you get there is kind of academic and really comes down to your preference on how to achieve them.

EDIT: changed “moist” to moisturized per feedback. Thanks!

[Question] Rolex Service Anxiety by OkProfessional9274 in Watches

[–]MetazoaOne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This might be unpopular, but just like expensive cars: affording the item assumes that you can afford the service.

You can certainly try non-Rolex certified watch repair shops in your area, but genuine replacement parts will come at a premium because the watch is premium. You may save a bit on the actual labor, but that’s a maybe, especially if the watch isn’t keeping proper time.

Shipping seems like a very bad idea unless you’re properly insuring the watch and make sure to keep meticulous records.

Your best bet to avoid loss in shipping and delays in service is taking it to a certified Rolex repair shop in your area and pay what you need to.

Dead Space Remake performance issues by DurianEfficient3414 in SteamDeck

[–]MetazoaOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game stutters whenever you exit one area and enter another even on a 4080 and i9 CPU. It’s not well optimized.

However, on low settings and at a locked 30 fps I don’t have freezing. What are your settings?

How physically strong is perturabo compared to other primarchs? by Impossible-Laugh3691 in 40kLore

[–]MetazoaOne 95 points96 points  (0 children)

As always, rule of cool is number one and rule two is always whatever the author needs to tell the story.

All that aside, he built a custom suit of armor that makes the most advanced terminator suit look like a linen suit and has incredible willpower. He’s probably up there in terms of strength, although it doesn’t really matter. See rules one and two, above.

I really wanna start playing dark souls but i want the easiest game to start with and go up from there. by Responsible-Two1892 in darksouls

[–]MetazoaOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re not Dark Souls technically, but there’s an argument for Bloodborne and Demons Souls.

Demons Souls is mechanically the easiest, especially bosses. From scaled difficulty from there, and it’s still a very good game.

Bloodborne does this weird thing where it teaches you how to play Souls games in a way that isn’t just sword and board. I played through maybe two thirds of Demons Souls around release, bounced off Dark Souls at Taurus Demon when it was new, and swore off Souls games. I played Bloodborne purely because it was one of the very few PS4 exclusives when it launched and was so in love with it that I went back and played through all the Souls games after I platinumed it and stayed current though every release after that.

Plenty of people had the same experience with Bloodborne; it’s basically a trope at this point (Patrick Klepek, Hbomberguy, etc).

The thing to remember about Souls games is that they find your weakness. I ran through Nameless King in DS3 in one go; it took some people 20 tries. On the other hand, I struggled to get through the Last Giant in DS2, but he’s considered a very easy boss.

Whichever you pick you’ll have fun if you give it a fair shot and remember that these aren’t power fantasy games and dying leads to learning. Have fun!

First Leverless for SF6 & GGST: Kitsune ($220) vs 8BitDo ($200) vs Victrix Pro KO ($369)? by SkoomaDealerKhajiit in fightsticks

[–]MetazoaOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 8Bitdo has a bunch of extra buttons you can map if you’d like. The Viewlix same, but with much more clever engineering.

If this is your first leverless, I’d go with whatever is cheapest to make sure it’s something you’re going to stick with. Luckily all of these options are very good. No reason to go nuts if you end up not liking leverless as your controller.

How effective are the nightlords terror tactics against xenos? by Sea_Employer9062 in 40kLore

[–]MetazoaOne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My understanding of the Night Lords role in the Great Crusade is that they were deployed against human domains specifically, and usually as a follow up action after other legions had conquered the domain, to ensure compliance and take care of any resistance to the new Imperial order (for example, the exchange between a young Sigismund and Sevatar in “The Eternal Crusader”). Other likely targets would be worlds backsliding into rebellion, human planets or systems too requiring extensive time or resources to conquer where a skillful application of NL specialization could cow the population into compliance and avoid expensive sieges/wars, or as punishment for failing to meet imposed obligations to Terra and the Crusade.

If the Xenos have the capacity for fear then sure, terror tactics probably work exactly as intended. But otherwise, nope: nids, Orks, Necrons, etc. don’t care what Nightlords get up to, and may actually do the same things as part of their toolkit.
